Daybeds are an often-overlooked solution for adding both function and style to small spaces. While years ago, daybeds were almost universally dowdy and dated looking, today there are so many stylish options! Today I’ve gathered together my stylish favorites and am giving you ideas and inspiration for using them in your home too. Let’s get to it… (post includes affiliate links; full disclosure statement available {here})
Why Choose a Daybed?
Daybeds are one of the most versatile furniture pieces and are amazing for making the most out of limited space. They can fit seamlessly into any small space, whether it’s a studio apartment, a small bedroom, or a cozy reading nook. By day, they’re a comfortable place to lounge and relax while at night they make a comfortable spot to sleep. As an added plus, many have built-in drawers, which can provide valuable storage space.
And while daybed styles used to be limited, now there are so many style options that you can save space without compromising on style. Whether you prefer a modern design, a boho vibe, or a more traditional feel, there’s a daybed out there that will blend seamlessly with your style.
Favorite Stylish Daybeds
My first experience with a daybed was when I was created a hangout space for my girls in the landing area at the top of our stairs. I wanted a daybed that they could use for reading, homework, watching TV, and lounging with friends by day and that would also work beautifully as an extra guest bed at night. Here’s a peek at the space that I created:
Sources: Mattress | Herringbone wallpaper (denim color) | White quilted Euro shams w/navy stitch (similar) | Blue & white block print pillow covers | Cozy pom pom throw (similar) | Roman shades with light navy ribbon trim | White Moroccan leather poufs
Using a daybed in this space ended up working out beautifully! While the exact daybed that I chose is no longer available, there are plenty of other stylish options out there. These are my current favorite stylish daybeds:
1. Braided seagrass weave daybed | 2. Rattan daybed | 3. Channel stitch daybed | 4. White wood daybed (also available with trundle) | 5. White steel geometric daybed | 6. Velvet shelter daybed | 7. Upholstered daybed | 8. Boho rattan daybed | 9. Sausalito cane daybed | 10. White metal daybed

Tips for Decorating with Daybeds
How you style your daybed depends upon how it’s primarily being used. If your daybed is used mainly for casual lounging, then pile on the pillows with a mix of colors, textures, and designs like they did on {this boho daybed}:
If you’re using it in a more formal living room, treat it like a sofa, placing a large ottoman next to it as they did in this beautiful space:
Using your daybed as a reading spot? Add a few pillows, a floor lamp, and a side table where you can rest a book and a drink:
If you’re using your daybed as a combination lounging/sleeping spot, consider placing a wall shelf within reach which is a convenient spot to charge a phone, place a drink, and more:
Do you need to maximize your sleeping space? Consider a stylish daybed with a pull-out trundle like {this daybed} that comes in tons of fabric options:
While the shelves with framed art looks fabulous, with a daybed like this one that has no backrest, I’d recommend keeping the wall hangings high enough that they won’t interfere with you leaning against the wall.
