Dress Up Your Dining Chairs: Corseted Slipcovers

After posting about our new home office last week, a few of you e-mailed asking where to find corseted slipcovers such as those on the pair of Parsons chairs that now sit at our office desk:

Slipcovers that tie or lace up on the back are a great way to add decorative interest to plain Parsons chairs:

I lucked into my corseted chairs at Home Again Fine Consignments in Wilmington, N.C. when I was visiting my parents over Christmas. Home Again frequently gets in shipments of unused furniture from market showrooms, as was the case with these chairs.  I figured out that they are the Corseted Linen Side Chairs with Black Stripes by Furniture Classics. You can’t buy directly from Furniture Classics but if you’re interested in them, google the name of the chairs online and you’ll find several sites that sell them. Furniture Classics also has two other corseted chairs – a Corseted Linen Side Chair with a blue stripe as well as one with a red stripe (no idea why they don’t show the back of the chair on their site!):

Other options are Bernhardt’s Westcreek chairs from Horchow:

and this fun ruffled slipcover from Etsy shop “Paula & Erica”:

Putting Our Home Office Together (Finally!)

White-wash-three-piece-bookcase-wm

After having worked for weeks to finish off the walls and crown molding in our home office (way more hours went into filling the nail holes on the new crown molding and painting & caulking it than I had expected…), we’re finally starting to move the furniture in. As you may remember, after shopping around for several weeks for a large bookcase, we ended up buying this one from a local store called Merridian:  We knew that we wouldn’t have the office ready for another two months so the store agreed to hold the bookcase in their back room until we were ready for it. Perfect. Well, maybe not. Two weeks after we purchased it, they called to let us know that the store was closing in one week and that we needed to pick up the bookcase ASAP. Panic. WHERE in our house are we possibly going to store this […]

Holiday Decorating: DIY Star Anise Wreaths

The Christmas decorations are up (finally!). I’m always a bit late to the game This year I decided to add a little something special to my dining room – small star anise wreaths hung on the back of each dining room side chair: Last winter I bought a large star anise wreath for our front door and loved not only how it looked but also its wonderful licorice scent. So once I decided to add some holiday decorations to the backs of our dining chairs, I was quick to come up the idea of creating small star anise wreaths hung on the chairs with decorative ribbon.  There’s not much to this DIY project – here’s the supply list: 8″ foam wreaths (I bought mine on sale at Jo-Ann’s) Brown burlap (I bought 2 yards, which is more than enough for 6 wreaths) Star anise, which can be found at Asian grocery stores.
