I hope you all are enjoying your weekend! I had a busy Saturday working on a Bloggers Heart Habitat project (more to come on that!) and am looking forward to sunny skies and a bit of downtime on Sunday. We haven’t used our patio nearly enough this summer and I’m hoping to make up for that!
Before the weekend is over, I wanted to pop in and share a new “View It, Do It, You It” post including a DIY project that I knew you’d love to see too (“View It”), a quick & easy decorating tip that you can knock out in 20 minutes or less (“Do It”), and some new favorite finds for you and your home (“You It”). Ready? Let’s go… (post includes some affiliate links)
Every now and then I stumble upon a DIY makeover that blows me away and THIS is one of them! Aniko of Place of My Taste had a nice wood deck complete with a sectional for lounging but as soon as you walked down those deck stairs… things got sketchy.
She and her husband worked nights and weekends for weeks to transform their sad patio into this stunner with the most amazing outdoor kitchen:
Crazy good, right?!
There are so many details that were so well thought out, like how they widened the staircase up to the existing deck to make it one cohesive space.
Definitely an inspiring project that’s worth checking out – it blows me away that they DIY’ed ALL of it! Hop on over to Place of My Taste {here} to see the full patio makeover reveal (just wait until you see how beautiful it looks all lit up at night!) and a full source list for this beautiful space.
This quick and easy decorating idea is one that you could easily knock out before the end of the weekend and that will surprise you by the impact it has on your space. Simply paint the back of your bookcase or shelving unit a different color from the rest of it. Yep, it’s that simple! You could either paint it one of the accent colors in your room or you could paint it the same color as your walls, which is what I did in our home office:
The black background not only makes the accessories on the shelf stand out, but it also makes the TV blend in! If you want to take things up a notch from painting, consider using wallpaper on the back of a bookcase like I did in our family room (I used {this grasscloth wallpaper}):
or you could even use wood planks (either real or faux) like I did in our dining room when I backed our built-in cabinet with Pergo:
You can read more about my Pergo-backed dining room cabinet {here} (it’s an oldie but goodie post!). Other ideas for materials you could use for backing your cabinets or bookcases are wrapping paper, burlap, contact paper, or even fabric. Lots of room for creativity here!
There are a bunch of tempting home decor and fashion buys this weekend! First off, it’s the LAST weekend for the Nordstrom sale – on Monday August 7th, all of their Anniversary Sale items will go up to full price so if there’s something you’ve been debating about, now’s the time! These are all of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale items I personally have and love including some I’ve had for years and others I bought during the sale this year:

You can check out the rest of my Nordstrom favorites on my Shop page {here}!
Serena & Lily is having a tent sale this weekend with 30-70% off PLUS an extra 15% off with code 15MORE . You can see all of their items in the tent sale {here} or check out these favorites:
Pottery Barn has 30% off plus free shipping on all bedding this weekend with code SLEEPYHEAD including my favorite linen quilt {here}. It washes and wears so beautifully! I have it in the Flagstone color in our master bedroom and Natural in our guest room:
That’s it for me – I’ll be back a little later in the week with a post about my guest bathroom makeover – I’m loving how it turned out and am so excited to share it with you!
XO,
Kris,
That was fun! I loved that back yard DIY story. Wow, wish we were motivated to do more DIY. 🙂 Our move is complete and the only thing missing are the bookshelves we used to have in our old house. I’m keeping these ideas of yours in the file for a possible bookcase in our future.
Happy Sunday. I don’t suppose you’re counting the days until Autumn like me, are you?
xo,
Karen
Glad you got all moved in – it’s hard to lose that bookshelf space I bet! Hope you had a wonderful weekend Karen!
This is great. Did you install the wallpaper behind your shelves yourself or have someone come in? Wallpaper intimidates me, but love the look it gave your shelves!
I did do it it myself but totally didn’t do it the way the pros do – I was worried about messing it up (and it wasn’t cheap so I didn’t want to have to buy more) so I actually just precut it with scissors and got it the perfect size and then pasted it up. It probably took me like five times as long as it would have if I had done it the normal way where you paste and then cut the excess with a razor but it worked out well in the end!
Love the post! That idea of painting the back of the bookcase is so creative! Certainly makes it much more interesting. Thank you for sharing the idea!
Thank you Diana!!
