I’ve been talking about remodeling our living room fireplace for who knows how long. Every time I think I have a good plan, it falls apart for one reason or another. Most recently I was loving the idea of totally replacing my mantelpiece with a salvaged farmhouse one that I found locally but later realized that it was too tall. As is pretty much every other cool mantelpiece out there since I’m working with ceilings that are only 7 1/2 foot tall and an average height mantelpiece leaves only a small, crammed amount of wall space above it.
But I think I actually have it figured out my friends. Swear. And it’s thanks to my friend Jenny at Evolution of Style who posted about a new line of Walker Zanger tile that I would swear was custom made just for me. It’s their Sterling Row Collection and it’s black and gray and white and textural and shapely and pretty much just totally swoon-worthy.
As soon as I held this sample up in the corner of my fireplace (I posted a pic on Instagram {here}), I knew that the Wingtip design in Charcoal must be mine:
I’ll be returning my samples tomorrow with my fingers crossed that the pricing doesn’t put it out of my budget. Stay tuned.
Update! I madeover my fireplace and I love it! You can see more pics of my new fireplace and the rest of my living room {here}
On a totally unrelated note, did you notice in the latest Serena & Lily catalog that they are going to be introducing a new fashion line? These two outfits that they gave us a sneak peek of are totally up my alley so I can’t wait to see the whole collection.
And by the way, that bench the second model is sitting on? Well it’s their Carson Bench (affiliate link) and I’m totally obsessed with it. It makes me want to sell the bench I’ve been stripping and sanding for months and get this beauty instead. But of course there’s that whole money issue again. It isn’t cheap.
And I finally made it to Target this week after not having been for a record-breaking two months. Not lying. Two months. Everything was new to me even though you all might have been seeing this stuff for weeks now. I almost came home with this cool Smith & Hawken Plant Stand (affiliate link) to use for my oils and spices next to the stove:
And I did come home with this Threshold Wooden Two Shelf Accent Table (unfortunately no longer available) to see how it would look between my imaginary chairs at the end of our kitchen where I’m planning a two chair conversation area. The finish is really pretty in person and I love the little shelf for magazines or books.
That’s probably enough randomness from me for one day. I’ll be back tomorrow with Best of the Nest to share my favorite post of the month along with the favorites from my lovely blogging buddies. See you then!
That tile is gorgeous. Who needs that reclaimed mantle when you’ve got that tile!!
Thanks Jennifer – I know, right?!!!
That tile is amazing!!!! If it’s out of the budget I think you need to start a “Fireplace Fund” because you must have it! It is truly “drool-worthy”!
So true! I didn’t end up returning my sample today – I think I’m scared to get the price 🙂 Sooo hope it’s not a deal breaker!!
OH HELLO! i love the plans you have!!!
Thanks Cassie!
I was just at Target yesterday and smiled the whole time. I could not make it past that special $1/$3 section right inside the door without loading up my cart with just fun little finds. My husband just laughed at me when I got home as I was so excited to share all my treasures. They were setting up the back of the store with their outdoor/patio/deck items, so that sounds like a return trip to check out once it is done….and the snow melts off my outside space.
The dollar section was amazing, wasn’t it??!! They were just starting to set up the outdoor section in our Target too -I saw the cutest little mini galvanized olive buckets in that section. Can’t wait to see what else appears!
I am IN LOVE with those tiles…I would have chosen the same one! 🙂
Yay! LOVE that you love the same one. But so hard to decide because they’re all so beautiful, right?!
Great idea with the plant stand for spices! Had to “high 5” you on that!
Thanks, that would be so cute wouldn’t it?! I just need to get that big ole microwave off of my counter to give me the space for it!
Love the tile!!!!! Can’t wait for you, hope it works out!
Thanks so much Vel!
Girl, I could have written this post. Love, love, love the tile! Wish I had a place to use it. And I am totally loving the Serena and Lily fashion sneak peek too…just saw it as well. And…I just posted about the Target galvanized line today, which includes that plant stand. Our tastes are definitely similar.
That’s so funny. I would be calling you over to my house ALL THE TIME for opinions if you lived nearby. You’re probably lucky you’re all the way in Texas 🙂
What a great post! Love every single thing!
Thanks Mary Ann! Now I just need to come into a lot of money so I can snag all these finds I’m drooling over 🙂
GAAHHHHHHH Kris I am dying over the tile! It’s perfect for you!!!! I love love love it, please get it! 🙂
I’m going to make sure my husband sees this – we can gang up on him on this one!
I love those tiles so much! I can’t wait to see your fireplace if it all works out! Looking forward to seeing more from Serena and Lily, too.
Thanks Stacey!
Kris, I’m back – was crazy-busy at work. Got a little respite at the moment, and have been catching up on all your posts that I missed. I loved them all (of course). This tile is wonderful. I can’t wait to see the finished product. And those dresses are classic and feminine – totally my style. If you’re looking for a more affordable option, I’ve lucked out with the Old Navy A-Line dresses lately. Not premiere quality, but not bad, and they’re machine washable, and easy to wear.
Hey friend, missed you! So I must go to Old Navy now because I’m 100% sure I’d like it if you do. I’ve become such a hermit with this cold weather that I haven’t been there in months!
Pretty tile! That would look great in your house! Exciting news about the Serena and Lily fashions. I’ve just been looking for spring dresses that are a good mix of cute and respectable. The bench is gorgeous! Excited to see the little nook you are creating. Not shopping at Target can be great for the pocketbook. I had to totally stop going there when I was trying to become debt-free. 🙂
So, so true Carrie! I left Target with three times the stuff that I came for. It definitely helps out the budget that we live a ways away from it!
Ahh the kitchen bench is really beautiful, that’s a lovely addition to any dining area. I like the little stool/shelf as well, really like this type of wood.
Thanks – such great pieces, right?!
Those Serena & Lilly ladies are smarties…
I know! They can do no wrong!
Oh those geometric tiles are dreamy. I love the direction you’re going in. You are amazing not to go into Target for two weeks. I totally need to do that. Love the idea of Serena and Lily clothes!
Yep, the ONLY good thing about all of this cold, miserable weather is that I stay home unless I absolutely HAVE to go out. It’s been a good thing for the budget!
Stunning, clean lines and superb color palette choices. You really have good taste and great design skills! I am curious about the final width of your fireplace shelf. Great job!
Thank you so much Jana! My fireplace mantel ended up being about 7 1/2 ft wide and 9 5/8″ deep. Hope that helps!
