My morning cup of coffee’s going to be brewing in a whole new space starting today – I finally finished putting together our long overdue kitchen coffee station!
As part of “Operation Clear Off the Kitchen Countertops Around the Sink”, I relocated the coffee maker from beside the sink to across the room where we installed butcher block countertops and two outlets several months ago. Our new coffee bar is pretty simple – along with a coffee maker and mugs, I hung my much-loved chalkboard print above a basket holding our coffee beans, filters, coffee scoop, and sugar and cinnamon shakers.
Our filters and heart coffee scoop fit perfectly in a little trophy cup that I found at the Ballard Outlet over the holidays:
and the cinnamon and sugar are in inexpensive salt & pepper shakers from Walmart:
The big hold-up on this project was the coffee maker. The base cabinets that our butcher block countertops rest on aren’t very deep so there wasn’t enough countertop space to be able to pull our old coffee maker forward enough to add the grounds and water to it. It took quite a bit of searching but I finally found a coffee maker that works well with shallow depth countertops and also gets great ratings. The filter basket swings out to the front rather than the top so it’s easy to access:
and to fill it with water, you simply remove the water reservoir from the back (the coffee maker is on wheels so it’s easy to access), fill it in the sink, and then place it back on the coffee maker for brewing:
I’m loving having more countertop space around our sink (now I just need to get rid of that microwave!) and the cabinetry area at the far end of our kitchen has turned into a great workhorse, housing both our coffee station and family charging station:
It’s looking pretty different from the tiled, no-outlet space we had when we moved in:
There’s lots more work to do in our kitchen but I figured that focusing on my source of morning caffeine was the best place to start. I’m sure my fellow coffee lovers out there would agree 🙂

That is the perfect spot for the all-important coffee station!! I love that it has it’s own little area where you can grab a cup of coffee and sit for a bit. (I think you mentioned something about comfy swivel chairs as part of the plan for this area????) Such a pretty little spot with the windows, and I love the glass cabinets & butcher block countertop too, it’s the perfect beverage center now that you installed outlets!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Lisa! You have a good memory my friend – my husband and I were actually just talking about getting those chairs soon. Right now we have the upholstered banquet from our old kitchen table sitting there which functions great in the space but looks kinda off.
Julia@Cuckoo4Design says
I love the before and after! Such a pretty spot for coffee. I have to tuck my things away in cabinets because I don’t have the room.
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Julia – my husband and I are coffee addicts so we need full access to our source of caffeine at all times 🙂
Lisa says
I can’t wait to get started on a similar idea upstairs to welcome my Airbnb guests .
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Sounds like you’re making your home a wonderful place to stay!
Dagmara @ GlamistaHome says
It looks like this space has forever been a coffee nook. I love all the details you have picked to decorate the space. The silver container for the coffee filters is really pretty I suspect it could be nicely used to hold cookies or other sweets as well. 😉 Enjoy the morning cup of coffee.
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks so much!
cassie says
looks so good! i still need that coffee scoop! 🙂
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Yes, you do!!
Patty Kennedy says
Just so pretty! 🙂
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Patty!

Because I love coffee so very much, for Christmas I received a coffee bean roaster, 10 pounds of green coffee beans and a grinder. I love your idea for the coffee bar, and moving everything over to an unused counter space. I have a similar area in my kitchen~ sans the outlets, which I never thought to just add!!!. Thanks for such a great idea!!! And, I love the Lily&Val chalkboard print!!!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
A girl after my own coffee-loving heart! I was thinking that adding the outlets might be a big deal but it turned out to be a quicker and less expensive job that I had expected (which happens NEVER). Hope the same ends up being true for you!
Linda @ Calling it Home says
Love how organized and pretty this is.
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Linda!
Denise says
Such a perfect spot Kris! Love the trophy cup for the coffee filters – perfect! And that scoop – seriously still need to get my hands on that!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Denise! It’s ridiculous how much I love that silly little coffee scoop – you need one!
Karissa says
Where did you get the scoop and the filter holder? Love them!!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Hi Karissa – the scoop is from Beehive Kitchenware on Etsy and I found the filter holder at the Ballard Outlet – I don’t know whether it’s a current item in their online store or not. Hope that helps!
Shannon from Bohemian Junktion says
cute! Everything right where you need it. Pinning

Thanks Shannon!

Love your new coffee station. Cute coffee scoop, too.

Thanks so much Kim!
Elizabeth @ The Little Black Door says
Its like having your very own Starbucks. 🙂 Great idea.
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
But unfortunately no pumpkin spice lattes getting brewed here…. Sure is more convenient though!
Marty@A Stroll Thru Life says
Love it, what a perfect spot. I love your accessories too and the wood counter is gorgeous.
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Marty – I’m happy with how the countertop area turned out and it was so much cheaper than other options.
Tammy says
Lovely – you’ll have to put the kettle on for us tea drinkers 🙂
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Of course! One of my good friends is a tea drinker so I’m all ready for you Tammy 🙂
Marisa says
Love the look. Who makes and where did you get the white canister? Thanks!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Hi Marisa – sorry but I’m not sure where I got the white canister – I’ve had it for forever! In fact, I think it might have even been from my wedding registry 🙂
Raquel says
Oh I love your kitchen! I so need a coffee center and I love how you made yours. Did you make that beautiful sign? Gorgeous!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
I wish that I was that talented – the sign is from a print made by Lily & Val!
Funky Junk Interiors says
Ohhhhhh my gooooosh…. this is one of the prettiest coffee stations I’ve ever seen. I hear ya on the filter thing via the top. I have the same issue. I didn’t think to look for a forward swinging one!
The trophy touch? Genius. Love that so much!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks so much Donna – the trophy cup was a lucky find over the holidays that I snatched up without knowing what I’d end up doing with it. Funny how things just seem to find themselves a home!
Laurie says
I LOVE your coffee station! Would you believe I was at Home Goods today looking for things to set up the exact same thing?! Here’s the funny part of that…I don’t even drink coffee! But I figure if I have to have the coffee maker on the counter, I’m going to make it look cute!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
That’s so coincidental Laurie! I had the hardest time finding a basket tray that was the right size and just lucked into this one over the weekend. So hysterical that you’re setting up the coffee bar and don’t even drink coffee – your guests will definitely appreciate it!
Kelsey says
Hi Kris,
This is so cute! I’m trying to do something similar, but all the baskets I’m finding are way too big and clunky. Where did you find yours?
Kris Jarrett says
Thanks so much Kelsie – it was a HomeGoods find!
Pam @ Simple Details says
I LOVE that it’s as pretty as it is functional! The Homegoods basket is favorite, I’ve seen it at ours, those handles are so cool! Cheers (with my mug) to a great job from a fellow coffee lover!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Pam! I put that sucker down for a few seconds while I was looking at the basket that’s the next size up and a lady totally tried to swipe it from me. HomeGoods can be a brutal place – gotta hold onto your stuff there 🙂
classic casual home says
Love this! Great use of the trophy cup!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks so much! I’m so happy to have some more elbow room by our sink now!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Loi – come on through for a cup next time you’re in Connecticut, ok?!
Holly says
I had to make sure I came over to see this fun coffee set-up. You’ve actually got me thinking now of moving our Nespresso over to the other side of the counter and doing a station of sorts as well. There’s something comforting and homey about coffee isn’t there? 🙂
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
There sure is Holly – it’s what gets me out of bed in the morning! 🙂
Brenna@DomesticCharm says
Adorable! And I can’t believe the before picture….. great transformation and use of the space!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Brenna – we don’t have a ton of useable countertop space so it’s great to have this new use for it!
Vel says
Beautiful and functional – perfect combo! I love how you write your source list at the end Kris, I should do that when I make my displays!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Vel!
Taylor Greenwalt says
What a cute little area…love what you did…
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks so much Taylor!
Meg says
Lovely! We desperately need a couple of outlets added in the kitchen. Did you do this job yourself or hire someone? If you hired, would you mind sharing how much a job like this costs, please? Thanks!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
We hired an electrician to add the outlets and it really wasn’t very much considering how much it added to our kitchen – I think we paid about $100. But I do have to say that the backsplash area was totally open to the studs (we had just ripped out the tile) and there was an outlet on the other side of the wall so the electrician had a pretty easy time fishing the wire. I’m sure there’s the potential for it to be quite a bit more money depending on the layout in the kitchen. It’s been so worth it in our case!
Patty says
After seeing your coffee station and learning that the coffee carafe does not drip (a problem with many) I ordered that coffee maker — it is great!! My only problem is that it’s about 1/4 inch too tall to set on the counter and slide under the cupboard, so I have to come up with a solution about where to conveniently keep it. Ain’t it always something!!!!
I love French vanilla creamer in my coffee — so good.
Thanks for great ideas.
Patty
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Shoot – one step forward, one step back, right?! It is a great carafe for not dripping and I love, love, love the removable reservoir. I hope you find a good solution for where to keep it! Oh, and I love anything and everything French vanilla too!
Jennifer @ Dimples and Tangles says
What a happy little corner you have now! Love your coffee station!
Sharon says
Great coffee station. I also see it transforming into a Coffee and dessert bar when entertaining.
Enjoy your weekend!

Super cute! I might have to try something like this. I have coffee decor all over my kitchen… Pretty sure I need a cute coffee station now.
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks so much Erin! Sounds like you’re a fellow coffee lover, which means that you definitely need a little spot like this 🙂
Hannah Haworth says
Loving that chalk board! And what a difference the wooden worktop makes. Would love to do something like this in our house – and in fact I think I might! thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks so much Hannah! Good luck with your decorating!

Super cute! What are the general dimensions of the basket?
Kris Jarrett says
Thank you! The woven tray is about 9″ x 15″

I am working on a kitchen redesign now and have been thinking about a coffee/beverage station. I’m thinking of also adding a wine/beverage refrigerator below the counter if it will fit. That way we can access drinks even when the kitchen is busy when we have guests over.
I like the way you did the more shallow cabinets. That’s probably what we’ll do as well. Thanks for sharing your design!

Love love love this! My husband and myself just bought and moved into our first house and I am definitely going to do this and use yours for my inspiration! Do you happen to know how big your sign is?? Thank you!!!
Kris Jarrett says
Thanks! My chalkboard print is 8 x 10. Good luck putting your coffee station together!

I just ran into you from Pinterest and I love your coffee station, and all the elements are awesome, starting from your great coffee machine. I so love coffee so I’m attracted to everything about it.
