We’ve got a mini-makeover brewing in our kitchen and as I went to snap a few “before” shots last week I realized that somehow I’ve never shared any pics of our kitchen baker’s rack:
If any of you remember what our kitchen looks like, you’re probably wondering where the heck I found room for this sucker. It’s actually in this odd little nook we have off of our eat-in area by the door to our laundry room. If you’re looking from the main part of our kitchen, the little nook I’m talking about is just past the wall I’ve shown before with the hanging herb crates:
We’ve had the baker’s rack since shortly after moving in and it’s been great for storing large serving pieces that would otherwise take up a good chunk of our limited cabinet space. Since it’s by the door to our patio, I also keep our outdoor tablecloths on it:
And I just recently added two woven baskets that are great for the not-so-pretty stuff like Hope’s leash and collar, sunscreen, etc.:
The baker’s rack also houses a few odds and ends that I didn’t have a good home for anywhere else, like this wire basket filled with napkin rings. Most of the accessories filling my shelves are HomeGoods finds but I created a source list at the end of this post in case you’re wondering where something specific came from.
I went with an open baker’s rack rather than a more standard piece of furniture in this nook because I have baseboard heating on both sides – an open rack allows the heat to circulate and it doesn’t have to be pushed up flush against the wall like a tall armoire would. And the wheels make it easy to move the rack in and out of the niche to clean those dust-collecting baseboard heaters:
And if you’re wondering, whether the things on my baker’s rack collect dust and if that drives me crazy…yes and no. Yes, they definitely do collect dust but no it doesn’t drive me crazy because the rack is mostly filled with vases and serving pieces that I don’t use all that often and that would need a quick wash even if I was pulling them out of the back of a cabinet instead of off the shelf of my baker’s rack.
I’ll be sharing some new pics of the rest of our kitchen in the next few weeks as the work on our kitchen island and eat-in area starts coming together. And I’m FINALLY going to be tackling our living room fireplace – can’t wait to show you guys my new tile next week! Have a great weekend!
