Target unveiled round two of “The Shops” today, including home décor collections from PATCH NYC and the Curiosity Shoppe. Unlike the first “Shops” that included some great home décor items from Privet House, the magazine previews of the collections being launched today didn’t have me all that excited about round two. However, I still swung by Target today to check them out and I’m here to share the good and the bad of what I found with you! First off: PATCH NYC. PATCH NYC was established by Boston-based designers Don Carney and John Ross who started out their business as designers of unique fashion accessories. They later opened a lifestyle studio with original art and collections of home décor and fashion accessories that are characterized by the same exquisite attention to detail and unpredictable sense of color for which their fashion accessories were known. These images of the PATCH NYC shop in Boston give you a sense of the unique, quirky nature of the home accessories they’ve become famous for:
Target’s PATCH NYC Shop includes a line of modern home accessories that Target describes as being “retro, stylish, and witty all at once”. As you’ll see, there’s a cast of animal characters that shows up repeatedly throughout the collection – they’re found as bases in their lamps,
adorning their collection of glasses, dishes, and serving pieces,
and in some of their other accessories, including bookends, pillows, candleholders, and a candelabra.
While most of their collection is in neutral colors of black, cream, and gold, there are a few splashes of color, including some colorful geometric pillows, colored candles, and this pretty aqua throw (it was more pretty and plush looking in person than in this pic!).
There are also a few “online only” offerings from the PATCH NYC Shop including three duvet sets (that I think are on the ugly side…) and some colorful poufs available in seven different color combinations. Remember my love for decorating with poufs? Then it should be no surprise that these are my favorite items from PATCH NYC!
Overall, I liked the PATCH NYC collection more in person than I thought I would online. In addition to the poufs, my favorites were the owl serving bowl, fox lamp, owl pillow, and gold candelabra.
I also checked out Target’s Curiosity Shoppe. The true storefront is located in San Francisco’s Mission District and is owned by Lauren Smith and Derek Fagerstrom. Target describes their shop as “crammed with the quirky and the clever, the unusual and the nostalgic, it’s a haven for anyone looking to add a little surprise or delight to their home”:
The Curiosity Shoppe at Target is located in the dinnerware section:
As you can see, much of their shelving is taken up by quirky cups and mugs,
as well as ceramic plates, bowls, and platters.
I’m not loving anything so far – it’s all really fun and hip and would be perfect for a 20-something gal but it’s just not for me. But then I spotted these cute colorfully striped straws and some mustache and lip swizzle sticks – these I like!
I also liked their salad serving spoons, America cutting board, and retro milk bottle. But not enough to buy any of them…
Check out these new lines out in person and let me know what you think! Am I being a fuddy-duddy about not being into the dinnerware or are you on board with me? (Does the fact that I just used the word “fuddy-duddy” made me a fuddy-duddy regardless of what you think about the Curiosity Shoppe…) Have a great start to your week!
