After being away for over two weeks (a week in Florida followed by a week visiting our friends and family in Cincinnati), we pulled into our driveway Sunday night having had a great vacation but glad to finally be home. I was dying to see if the hydrangeas in our front yard had finally bloomed and snuck outside first thing Monday morning (with messy hair, glasses, robe, the whole bit) to take a peek. I couldn’t believe that our front walkway, which didn’t have a single mature hydrangea bloom when we left, is now full of them:
Not only had they bloomed, but they had done so much growing and blooming that there’s a heck of a lot of floppiness going on:
Which was a great excuse for snipping off a ton of blooms to put in vases throughout the house, including the ginger jar that I picked up while antiquing last week:
It found a home on our entryway chest and kicked off the restyling of the rest of what was on there (I’m hoping to share some pics with you later this week!).
After checking out the hydrangeas, my next step (still in my robe…) was seeing what was growing in our new garden. There was nothing but some lettuce and herbs before we left and now…
we’ve got tomatoes on the way,
along with a bunch of cucumbers. This is exciting stuff for someone who kills almost every plant she encounters 🙂
The other things that grew out of control while we were gone? The laundry and the mail. There’s lots of catching up to do…
It’s probably a good thing that we’ve got nothing but rain predicted for the next few days – I’ll have some time to get things caught up at home so that once the sun comes back out we can get back to some carefree summer fun (and of course a few house projects too!).
