Happy Friday! How’s your summer going so far everyone? Ours is flying by and I’m realizing that my family’s got to get moving on our summer bucket list if we’re going to knock that sucker out. At least we’ve crossed off more things on our bucket list than our home to-do list – it’s been super slow-moving on that front. But taking a little time away from home projects has been great – I’m already feeling reenergized to jump back into some fun projects this fall including a complete makeover of our horribly ugly family room. Like most of the rest of our house, I’m planning on going with a mostly neutral base and adding color in with pillows and other accessories that can easily be changed out in the future if I want to refresh the look of the room.
Decorating with neutral tones can be a little tricky because there’s a fine line between calming and boring. I think the keys are to incorporate a lot of texture (like woven baskets & textured fabrics), a variety of neutral hues, and furniture pieces and accessories with interesting lines. And it helps to add a small pop of color, even if it’s something as simple as pillows, flowers, or patterned napkins:
One of my favorite ways to find inspiration for decorating with neutrals is, of course, Pinterest. And if you guys are Pinterest junkies like me, I’ve got a new-ish Pinterest board that I think you’ll love following:

It’s not just me pinning my neutral-loving favorites – it’s a group board that includes a bunch of fabulous bloggers and designers pinning along with me. If you don’t already know these design mavens, do yourself a favor and check out their blogs – they’re amazing. I’m talking Sherry of Design Indulgence:
