Mix Framed Photos With Stylish Decor
We can probably all agree that we don’t get photos off of our phones and printed for frames as often as we should, right?! Take this as your sign to just do it! Instead of adding single framed photos to your bedroom, up the style factor by layering multiple framed photos and mixing in a few decor pieces. For extra style points, use frames in a variety of sizes and styles.
I recently added this group of layered framed photos to our bedroom dresser, leaning them up against {this round mirror} that I turned gold using Rub ‘n Buff. I added in a pair of stacked books and {this vase} filled with greenery:
I’m a sucker for a pretty vase and love the texture that this one adds to our room! Wayfair has a ton of other great vase options and beautiful frames too, including these favorites:

Beef Up Your Nightstands
Most people take a lot of time choosing their bed but then throw a pair of dinky nightstands on both sides and call it good. If you have the space for it, choose nightstands that are more substantial. It makes a huge difference in the look and feel of your space! For king beds, nightstands that are 28″+ in size are a great fit. For queen beds, choose nightstands between about 24-28″.
Wider nightstands that are better proportioned to your bed size not only look better, but they often come with the bonus of extra storage space! The nightstands we have in all three of our bedrooms are from Wayfair, including {this 28″ 2-drawer white nightstand} with ring pulls flanking our queen bed:
In the king bedroom that I recently remodeled, we have a pair of {these 28″ nightstands in antique taupe} that I absolutely love (they come in five other color options too):
This same nightstand also comes in a 21″ wide version {here}.
Another idea for a bedroom where workspace is needed is to use a desk as one of your nightstands. Pay close attention to desk height, as many are too tall. Just like nightstands, ideally you would want it about the same height as your bed or an inch or two taller. I found a lot of great options for rectangular writing desks under 30″ high on Wayfair {here}.
Make It a Retreat By Adding Seating
Adding seating to a bedroom makes it feel like a true retreat! And it’s a stylish way to make use of what’s often dead space. You could choose an upholstered chair such as {this one} to place in a bare corner or use a pair of ottomans or poufs at the foot of your bed such as {these jute poufs}:
Another option is an end-of-bed bench. We have {this cane bench} in my girls’ bedroom, and it’s great not only for seating but as a spot to stack decorative bed pillows at night, place a suitcase for packing or unpacking, and more:
Keep Clutter at Bay With Stylish Storage
Wayfair has a ton of decorative boxes, bins, and baskets that provide storage without sacrificing style. An example is {this black and white pinstripe bone box} that I’ve had for close to ten years now and can always find a use for:

Layer Your Lighting
Layered lighting adds ambiance and style to any space, including your bedroom. Don’t rely solely on overhead light – instead, consider a mix of table lamps, floor lamps, ceiling lights, and/or sconces.
Some of my favorite Wayfair light fixtures from bedrooms in my own home include a pair of {these white concrete lamps} on our guest room nightstands,
a pair of {these 22″ lamps with scalloped shades} on the nightstand in my girls’ room,
{this oversized 26.5″ H rattan lamp} on our guest room dresser,
and {this ceiling fan with globe light}:
These are a few other favorite light fixtures that would work well in a bedroom (scroll & click to shop them!):
Upgrade Knobs on Your Doors or Drawers
One of the things that I’ve done in every dated home that we’ve moved into is update the door knobs. It makes a huge difference! Often I’ll buy higher-end door knobs for the first floor and then, on the second floor, use less expensive knobs that complement my pricier ones.
Two higher-end options that I’ve used include {these Windsor crystal knobs} in the satin brass finish in our previous home:
and {these more modern knobs} (also in satin brass) in our current home:
They both pair well with {these less expensive satin brass knobs} or {these knobs} if you want a crystal and satin brass combo.
Consider swapping out drawer knobs too on your nightstand or dresser. New knobs can give old furniture a completely refreshed look! One of my favorites that I’ve used time and time again is {this frosted acrylic knob} that comes in two sizes:
Don’t Forget the Final 5%
You’ve found the perfect bed, nightstands, lamps, and dresser, but your bedroom still doesn’t have the stylish look you were hoping for. Why? Because you’re missing the final 5%! It’s all of the accessories, artwork, and small details you add to your bedroom that take it from nice to… gorgeous!
Some examples include nightstand accessories such as {this woven whitewash tissue box cover},
and {this low ceramic planter} that I’m using as a bowl to hold a charger and cable:
Also consider decor pieces such as a decorative round mirror above the bed, framed photos, vases and planters, and wall art. These are some of my favorites:
Sources: 1. Round mirror | 2. Low planter | 3. Woven tissue box | 4. Faux coral | 5. Black & white frame | 6. Ring holder | 7. Beach art | 8. Round rattan tray | 9. Bust planter
My final three bedroom decor ideas are to…
- Create an accent wall with molding or wallpaper
- Paint your bedroom ceiling a different color (or wallpaper it!)
- Put your favorite sport on display! For example, consider a series of vintage tennis rackets as above-bed art if you love tennis. Or for kids rooms, consider mounting your child’s sports balls with classy wall mounts like {these}
Thanks as always for stopping by, and I hope you all have a great week! 🙌🏻
