There’s a little bedroom shake-up going on at our house! Our oldest daughter is living with us for a few months post-college graduation to save up money before moving out on her own. So she took over the guest bedroom since it has a larger bed. Meanwhile, it doesn’t make sense anymore to have twin beds in the girls’ room (they’re rarely home at the same time now), so I’ve sold those beds, am adding a king bed, and will be using their old room as our new guest room. Got it?! 😜
It’s the perfect opportunity for a little bedroom refresh, including adding a less formal, more youthful feel to my girls “new” room. By shopping the Sand & Stable brand that’s exclusively at Wayfair, I scored several finds that are perfect for giving their space the casual coastal vibe I’m looking for without breaking the bank (gotta save up for that kitchen remodel!). If you love coastal style with a little dash of modern farmhouse like me, you’ll vibe with the Sand and Stable brand too!
Today I’m sharing my new bedroom finds and giving you six ideas for creating an elevated coastal vibe in your own home. Let’s get to it… (post includes affiliate links and was written in partnership with Wayfair – full disclosure statement is available {here})
1. Elevate Your Space With Cane
Cane furniture is the perfect way to add texture and visual interest to your coastal bedroom. And while it elevates the look of a room, the light and airy nature of cane furniture keeps it from feeling too formal. When searching for an end-of-bed bench for my daughter’s bedroom, I knew {this Sand & Stable cane bench} was “the one” as soon as I found it:
It’s a stunner!
And as a bonus, it’s much more budget-friendly than other options I had found. End-of-bed benches are the perfect spot for stacking your decorative bed pillows when you go to bed, laying down PJs you plan to rewear the next night, and holding your suitcase when you’re packing for a trip. This cane bench is 51″ wide, which makes it a great size for the foot of a full or queen bed.
There are several other ways to incorporate cane into your bedroom too, ranging from large furniture pieces like a cane headboard to smaller doses of cane such as the drawer front of a nightstand. These are some of my cane favorites from Sand & Stable:
1. Nightstand / End table | 2. Daybed | 3. A-frame chair | 4. Bench | 5. Oval back dining chair | 6. Headboard
Also consider cane’s kissing cousin, rattan (cane is actually made from a portion of the rattan plant). Some ideas for incorporating rattan into your bedroom include hanging a round rattan mirror over your bed, adding a cushioned rattan armchair to the corner of your room for a cozy reading nook, or putting a rattan tray or box on your nightstand to corral your bedside essentials:

I love that cane and rattan furniture pieces seamlessly blend with a variety of design styles and can work in a more modern space just as well as a more traditional one.
2. Keep It Cozy With Natural Elements
Jute, seagrass, sisal, and hemp are other materials that add a cozy, natural feel that complements the coastal aesthetic. {This large jute pouf} looks super cute at the end of a twin bed, used in a similar way as a bench:
Or if you have a seating area in your bedroom or living room with two chairs side by side, this pouf is the perfect size for a shared ottoman (this is at my sister’s house!):
These are a few other coastal bedroom decor ideas for incorporating natural elements into your space:

I have {this large faux coral piece} shown above and think it’s SUCH a pretty piece. I especially love the acrylic base, which gives it a more modern vibe:
And while faux coral tends to be super pricey, I’m loving that I scored this beauty for under $50 🙌🏻.
3. Establish Your Color Palette With Coastal Art
Coastal art in shades of soft blue, pale greens, sandy neutrals, and crisp whites is a great way to establish the color palette of your space. Art pieces can serve as focal points, whether they’re placed over the headboard of your bed, centered above your dresser, or filling up a bare wall. From seascapes and beach landscapes to oysters and marine life, there are countless options to choose from. These are some favorites from Wayfair’s Sand & Stable brand that come in a variety of sizes:

4. Choose Furniture with Simple, Clean Lines
When it comes to coastal decorating, less is often more. Choose furniture with simple, clean lines instead of anything too ornate or heavy. It allows your eye to move effortlessly around your space, making it feel open, airy, and inviting. Choosing white and light woods is also key to creating an elevated, beachy vibe.
White furniture is the perfect backdrop for other coastal elements in your decor. It allows the textures and colors of seaside-inspired accessories, such as blue accents, to pop and take center stage:

White upholstered bed | 6. Reversible navy stripe comforter | 7. White paneled chest | 8. Navy chevron indoor/outdoor rug | 9. Light blue striped pillows
5. Set a Coastal Mood With Lighting
With any decor style, the right lighting can set the mood and enhance the overall vibe of your space. Decorating in a coastal style doesn’t mean that you have to go all cutesy and add a table lamp shaped like a seashell. Instead, consider modern lanterns, fixtures in a combination of white + brass, beaded lighting, and lighting in coastal colors:

6. Make It As Practical As It Is Pretty
I LOVE pretty spaces, but it’s every bit as important to make them practical and functional too. For a coastal bedroom, a few pretty + practical ideas include adding a woven tissue box cover like {this one in our guest bedroom} to your nightstand,
using a whitewash wicker laundry hamper like {this one} that takes up less floor space than a round one,
or corralling your most-used shoes in a decorative basket like {this one} where they’re easy to grab:
And with that… my coastal bedroom decorating ideas are a wrap! I hope you found a few new furniture or decor pieces to refresh a room in your own home! If your current home project is a living room, outdoor space, kitchen, or dining room, I’ve gathered together some Sand & Stable favorites for these spaces too:
