Have six weeks ever passed by so fast before? Somehow it’s already the sixth and final week of the One Room Challenge and I’ve been working like crazy on transforming our sad excuse for a guest room. I’m so happy with the finished space and so thankful that this challenge forced me to get it done at about five times the rate that I normally would have. Ready for some before and afters? Here’s what I started with:
And remember this old TV armoire that I snagged from the garage of a friend before it got taken to Goodwill?
With some paint, new hardware, and some modifications on the inside, it’s now a wardrobe armoire for our closet-less guest room:
Thanks to all of my fellow ORCers who linked up and took on this challenge with me – it’s been so fun to see everyone’s progress on their rooms and I’m so thankful for all of the sweet, encouraging comments along the way.

I adore this room. Love the bedding, and your resourcefulness. Can’t believe how great that ikea nightstand came out. That is next on my list. This is very inspirational and a room anyone would love to retreat to!
xo Nancy
It is now a very calm space; a retreat. Great furniture makeovers and love the layering of pillows.
Kris…..you know I love this room. All the neutrals are perfect with lots of texture. This is a must when going with a monocratic scheme. You nailed it. Love the styling….who wouldn’t be happy in that comfy space.
What a FANTASTIC job you did!! Kudos!
It is perfect…like an upscale, boutique hotel! Well done!!
So beautiful! Love the bedding and am dying over your Ikea nightstand hack….LOVE! I have a chalkboard in my guest room and it is fun to use to welcome guests and friends. Often they leave a thank you message as well. Enjoy this lovely space!
Lovely. Perhaps too lovely, guests may want to stay too long! Cute, easy, practical chalk solution via your daughter … a resourceful DIY apprentice 🙂 Amazing IKEA hack on the fabric covered chest, hoping for some how to details in the future.
Wow! What a transformation! I really like the idea of having a chalk board in the guest bedroom too for wifi password-genius idea!
So beautiful! You did a great job and your guests will not want to leave!
Thank you Catherine!!
Such a beautiful and tranquil room!! That Ikea hack is amazing!!! Absolutely beautiful, congratulations on an incredible transformation!
XOXO,
The Glam Pad
That is so inviting! I love all the texture and aren’t we all pillow-holics? The chalkboard is a genius touch.
Not only do I love this design but it might be the most thoughtful guest room I’ve seen in a while. Most people talk about adding magazines or a decanter for water which we all know doesn’t get used. But the chalkboard and the inscription on the hangars is so perfect. Also, love the sofa. Well done!
I could so get a good night’s sleep in this room! Love how your hack came out – and I almost bought those same lamps!! Love them!! Now I just may have to order them 🙂 Looks wonderful!
It’s beautiful!! Love all of the details – the quotes on the hangers, the rope handle on the armoire and that fabric on the chest!! I really want to see how you did that.
Can’t wait to see the tutorial on those Ikea nightstands. I might just have to try that. Do you have a tutorial on the roman shades?
I hope to have the Ikea hack tutorial up on the blog next week! I can’t sew worth a darn so I hired someone to make the roman shades – I knew that trying it myself would be a total waste of fabric 🙂
LOVE! I love the restrained color palette — the wall color is perfect. I am so impressed at your Ikea hack. Looks AMAZING. Congratulations — amazing job!
Thank you so much!!
Beautiful! Just the inspiration I need to finish our guest bedroom. Thanks for sharing your sources.
No problem Terri – good luck finishing your room!
What a lovely guest room! So calming…beautiful bedding, awesome Ikea hack, pretty round tables, and the coat hangers are a perfect touch for guests. Great job!
Thanks Michelle – I’m thinking that I need to move into the guest room because it’s 100 times better than our master bedroom, which we haven’t done a thing with since moving in!
It looks awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a beautiful retreat for your guests.
I so appreciate that – thanks!
Kris, this is such a beautiful room. Nana and Papa are never going to leave. So many warm touches throughout. I love that your brilliant daughter though of how to hold the chalk. If I did not say it before, you need to send that chest into Ikea Hacks, it is fantastic. Great job.
The details here are amazing. I need a little chalk bag now, and the sayings on the hangers are so nice. That bedding makes me want to dive right in and have a nap. Great job!
Wow! So beautiful!! I have to pin it so I can look at it again and again!
I agree, Lisa!

I can’t believe you finished this beautiful room in such a short amount of time! It’s amazing!
Thank you so much! Doing the ORC was such a great incentive!!
Kris, I loved the hangers you had in your guess bedroom. I’m a big diyer and I would love to copy the hangers if it is ok..Love the guess room..
Absolutely – hope you love the ones you make!
I’m trying to achieve a similar peaceful, natural look in my master bedroom and this is exactly the look of my bed! Where did you find the dust ruffle? I’ve been having a hard time finding a feminine yet clean-lined one to fit the bill. Advice appreciated!
Hi Jenna,
I couldn’t agree more – it was really hard to find a simple bedskirt that I liked – most of them are too ruffly for me. I found this one at Macy’s – sorry I don’t remember the brand and I cut off the tag. Another option is to make your own – I did that for my daughter’s room after my guest room remodel. I love how it turned out and it was super cheap. You can use a flat sheet or your own fabric. I will probably never buy a bed skirt again! Here’s the link to that post if you want to see what it looks like: https://www.drivenbydecor.com/2014/08/simple-diy-make-bed-skirt-from-flat.html
Hope that helps!
This space is really cozy! Love the wardrobe so much

What a super sweet comment – thank you so much!!!
I know you purchased the metal drum tables at Home Goods but do they have a manufacturer listed on them? These are exactly what I have been looking for for ages!!
Thanks!
Hi Stephanie,
I just looked and unfortunately there’s no manufacturer on the drum tables – sorry! 🙁
I love this space. I shared it over on my blog as a great guest room 🙂 Your Ikea nightstand hack is SO AWESOME.
Thank you so much Gabby – such a sweet compliment! XOXO
