You know that you are decorating-obsessed when you’re not only decorating and redecorating your current home but you’re also thinking about how you would decorate the rooms in your past home differently if you were to do it all over again. Do you do it too?
One room that I was never totally happy with in our old house was our family room – the art that I hung on the wall behind our sectional just wasn’t quite right but I left it alone thinking a better plan would come to me at some point and then I’d switch it up. That time never came since we ended up moving kind of unexpectedly. But I’ve seen a bunch of images lately that have me thinking that placing an oversized floor mirror behind our couch might have been the way to go like {this gorgeous family room} designed by Sarah Richardson, {this} stunner of a living room, or these beautiful rooms via Restoration Hardware:

Another idea I love is placing a series of smaller mirrors on the wall behind a sofa – like these three of {these multi-paned mirror panels} (affiliate link):

I love how the use of a mirror can help make a small room feel bigger and especially love the idea of using one when it faces windows or glass doors, reflecting the outdoors! Is it something that you’d think about for your house or is art above the couch/sofa where your heart is at?

i LOVE this look! we have a gallery wall behind ours, but if i ever found the right mirror, i might be doing this! and by found, i mean thrifted for like $50 because this girl is cheap.

with trim and a builders mirror (for like, bathrooms?) you can probably knock off a 4×6′ for around $50. a larger one would be more.

Well, I am a huge fan of this since I have a huge mirror behind my couch. It definitely makes a small room seem larger. You can see mine in my post today. Love all of your inspiration pics.

I’m a mirror lover, so I adore this look! Great inspiration photos – thanks! I fact, the first photo from Sarah Richardson (love her!) gave me some great ideas for my living room, which I recently painted in the same tone. Thanks for another great post!

I only recently came across that image by Sarah Richardson – I’m totally in love with it too! She’s amazing!

So glad you posted on this! I’ve been dying over leaning mirrors behind sofas lately! The HB pic is what prompted my obsession. I mean, how grand is that vignette?!

I’m a huge fan of putting mirrors of any kind behind the sofa but the oversized mirror is certainly stunning.

Love this idea! Such gorgeous inspiration pictures. I’m always blown away by the size and quantity of the Restoration Hardware magazines too 🙂

I’m such a fan of oversized mirrors. One of my favorites is Songe from Ikea for $100, it looks similar to the first inspiration pic, a lot of bang for the buck!

I love mirrors anywhere, they are great for making a space feel bigger and brighter, especially if they face a window! Love your inspiration photos. I don’t, however, love those RH mailings. I love magazines but they are so over the top, wasteful and environmentally unfriendly, I can’t believe they do that in this day and age.

Ditto…to all above…love using mirrors…they also help reflect light!

Yes have done that before to gain visual space in a narrow room, its a great look love it!

I also love the look of an over-sized mirror! Great inspiration photos! Yeah, I received that same ridiculous bundle from Restoration Hardware last week too. My husband swears I was on their mailing list because they know I spend too much – but I have only bought a few small things from Restoration Hardware over the years. So wasteful though!

That first Sarah Richardson room is one of my all time favorites! Between the chandelier, the mirror, the coffee table, and the textiles…it’s just perfect!! 🙂

Love your comment about the Restoration Hardware catalogs. I have thought the same thing before. Definitely not going the green route!

Love that look for sure, too bad I don’t have any wall behind mine, but yes, the bolder the better.
As much as I love RH catalogs, this one was a bit too much for me too, I’m sad about the all the paper they used on these! of course in my case, I have kept my RH catalogs since time immemorial and sort of collect time, so I still want the catalogs, but man, I do feel guilty about the paper waste!

Kris- love this post- I have a LARGE mirror that I’m contemplating putting behind my sofa instead of the opposite wall it’s on!

Love this look and want to do it. Is it ok to do a leaner mirror behind a sofa if the wall has molding?
