Looking for a new jute rug for your bedroom? I’m sharing the rug I chose along with some other beautiful options!
Following the chaos of our bathroom remodel (the amount of construction dust that migrated into our bedroom was seriously unreal!), it was time to get our dustbowl of a bedroom back into shape! A new bedroom rug was part of my mini-makeover since the old one was looking seriously ragged because the guys working on our bathroom had to walk across it to get to and from that space each day.
I chose a gorgeous jute rug for our bedroom and not only do I have that rug to share with you but I have samples of some other favorite master bedroom rug options to share too! Ready to see? (post includes commissionable links; for more information see my full disclosure statement {here})
Let’s kick things off with the three bedroom rugs that I decided between. I wanted a very neutral rug so that I could change up the colors in our bedroom without ever having to worry about having to decorate around the colors in my rug. I decided a jute rug with a simple pattern would be perfect. These are the rugs I considered…
1. White Framed Jute Rug
If you’re all about simple style like I am, {this white framed jute rug} is perfect! It’s an especially good choice if you already have a lot of pattern going on in your room but want something a little more stylish than a plain jute rug:

2. Patterned Square Jute Rug
{This patterned square jute rug} is the most highly patterned of the three. It’s a great choice if you want to add a pattern to your room that will work with any colors you already have in your space:

3. Braided Diamond Jute Rug
{This diamond jute rug} is the Goldilocks of jutes with not too much but not too little pattern. It would look great in pretty much any space you put it:

It also comes in variety of other color options that are beautiful too!
So which jute rug did I choose for our bedroom?? I went with {this beauty}:

Room Sources: Upholstered bed (similar) | Gray nightstands | Camp stools (similar)| White table lamps (similar) | Scalloped flushmount light | Gray & white duvet – no longer available | Gray & white dragon/floral pillows | Drapes (mine are single-width blackout lined)
The rug I previously had in our bedroom was a solid color and I decided I wanted to mix things up a bit by bringing in some pattern. I’m so, so happy with my choice and just love what it adds to my space! It looks great with my gray and white print duvet – I love the contrast in colors and textures:

Another rug I’ve used in my home that might be a good option for you is {this jute/cotton rug} that comes in a ton of color options:

What Size Jute Rug To Choose
My master bedroom rug is an 8 x 10 with the 10 foot size running in the same direction as the headboard. With our two smaller nightstands, it’s the perfect size for fitting the front legs of both nightstands on top of the rug:

and having room for twin benches at the end of the bed:

Our bedroom is on the smaller side so a 8 x 10 works beautifully – I wouldn’t recommend going smaller than this size. But if you have a larger bedroom, a 9 x 12 rug can often be a good choice!
Check out my rug size guide for tips on sizing your rug for your living room plus additional pics of rugs I love!
What I also love about this rug is the medium thickness. It’s thick enough to provide some cushioning but not so thick that it doesn’t fit under doors or cause furniture that’s half on/half off the rug like my nightstands to be wobbly:

I also love that jute rugs are amazing for layering – having a large jute rug that covers most of the room covered by a smaller patterned rug is a beautiful look! They also add warmth and texture to a room which makes spaces more interesting and welcoming.
The only con that I can think of with jute rugs is that many don’t have bound edges, meaning that they have a lot of flexibility and “give” so that the edges of the rug aren’t completely straight when you first roll it out. But I’ve found that if you take some time and go along the edges and push and pull the fibers at the edges you can create a pretty straight edge if that’s important to you:

Other Rugs I Love
What about some options I tried that aren’t jute? For spaces where you want a rug that’s super plush and soft (it’s legitimately the softest rug I’ve ever walked on), {this Moroccan shag rug} is a great option (ignore my dog in her zombie sleep 😂):

Also check out {this Moroccan Trellis rug} if you want a rug with a similar design but lower pile.
And if you’re looking for a rug that’s soft but low pile, {this gray patterned rug} is a great choice:

It’s made of synthetic material so if you want something that’s highly cleanable (like if you have pets that have accidents) it’s a winner.
So what do you think – do you have a favorite?
XO,

I love the look, durability and simplicity of jute rugs but one con worth mentioning is that they cannot be cleaned. I don’t have any pets but was dog sitting for a friend. That sweet little pouch left a large pee stain on our jute rug. I did all kinds of research for cleaning it to no avail. Typically, they are inexpensive enough that you could replace them but mine is 11’ x 15”, so not that cheap.

I love the bed spread with the tassels. Where did you get it?

I have been trying to decide on a new rug for our living room for over a year. I love the white framed jut rug. Could I layer a patterned rug on top; i.e. a cowhide or zebra print. Currently we don’t have much pattern in the room at all. I would appreciate your opinion; I have no natural decorating skills.

Yes I actually love the look of a patterned rug on top of a jute rug! That’s what I have in my home office that you can see here: https://www.drivenbydecor.com/house-tour-home-office/

Although your “before” needed some updates and your “after” is very on trend, I hope you didn’t get rid of the adorable bed. (Ballards?) That bed on shiplap? Too cute.
Kris Jarrett says
The Ballard headboard is super cute but we did get rid of it after having had it several years! I wanted to switch to having a complete bed without a bedskirt and something upholstered that’s soft to lean on (I read in bed every night 🙂 )

So pretty and what a huge impact it has on the entire room. Great job.

hi Kris!
I love your post. I am updating my daughters room for her 6th bday and we are need of a white/cream kid friendly/easy maintenance 8 X10 rug. Any suggestions? Her room will be painted Chantilly lace.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

Did you see this lattice rug in cream? It would be a really easy one to clean: https://rugs.com/ivory-8×11-lattice-frieze-area-rug-6293006 You could also do a simple shag rug in a cleanable material such as this one: https://rugs.com/white-8×11-soft-solid-shag-area-rug-6301604 Hope that helps!

Beautiful mini-makeover! Are you considering a landscape piece of restful artwork (abstract?) over the headboard?
For rugs, I’m partial to diamond sisal area rugs from Starck that can be custom cut and bound for about the same price as Pottery Barn (if you can believe it). I have sisal rugs in my dining room and living room.
Hope your NC project is going well!
Kris Jarrett says
Hi Elizabeth! Yes, I’m still trying to find the perfect piece for over the bed – our old headboard was so tall that we didn’t really need anything there but we do with this one!
Lyn says
Hi – I’m interested in knowing where you purchased the twin benches you’ve placed at the end of your bed. Thanks!! Lyn

Hi Lyn! Sure – my benches and all of my other bedroom sources are linked here: https://www.drivenbydecor.com/master-bedroom-sources/
