Looking for a new master bedroom rug? I’m sharing the rug I chose along with some other beautiful options!
Following the chaos of our bathroom addition (the amount of construction dust that had migrated into our bedroom was seriously unreal!), it was time to get our dustbowl of a master bedroom back into shape. A new bedroom rug was part of my mini-makeover since the old one was already looking a little ragged after years of use and then really ragged by the time the addition was wrapping up since the guys working on our bathroom had to walk across it to get to and from that space each day.
I chose a gorgeous jute rug and not only do I have that rug to share with you but I have samples of some other favorite master bedroom rug options to share too! Ready to jump in? (post includes affiliate links – full disclosure statement available {here})
Let’s kick things off with the three master bedroom rugs that I decided between – do you think you can guess which one I went with? I wanted a very neutral rug so that I could change up the colors in our bedroom without ever having to worry about decorating around the colors in my rug. So I decided to go with a jute rug with a simple pattern such as one of these…
1. White Framed Jute Rug
If you’re all about simple style like I am, this white framed jute rug found {here} is perfect! It’s an especially good choice if you already have a lot of pattern going on in your room but want something a little more stylish than a plain jute rug:
2. Patterned Square Jute Rug
This patterned square jute rug found {here} is the most highly patterned of the three – it’s a great choice if you want to add a pattern to your room that will work with any colors you already have in your space:
3. Braided Diamond Jute Rug
This diamond jute rug found {here} is the Goldilocks of jutes with not too much but not too little pattern. It would look great in pretty much any space you put it:
It also comes in black & white and gray & white options that are beautiful too!
So which master bedroom rug did I choose?? I went with {this beauty}:
Sources: Upholstered Bed | Gray nightstands | Camp stools | White USB table lamps | Semi flushmount light (available {here} and {here} | Gray & white patterned linen duvet – no longer available | Gray & white dragon/floral pillows | Quilt in king (color is Flagstone) | Drapes (mine are single-width blackout lined) | Diamond jute rug
The rug I previously had in our bedroom was a solid color and I decided I wanted to mix things up a bit by bringing in some pattern. I’m so, so happy with my choice and just love what it adds to my space! It looks great with my gray and white print duvet – I love the contrast in colors and textures:
What Size Bedroom Rug To Choose
My master bedroom rug is an 8 x 10 with the 10 foot size running in the same direction as the headboard. With our two smaller nightstands, it’s the perfect size for fitting the front legs of both nightstands on top of the rug:
and having room for twin benches at the end of the bed:
Our bedroom is on the smaller side so a 8 x 10 works beautifully – I wouldn’t recommend going smaller than this size. But if you have a larger bedroom, a 9 x 12 rug can often be a good choice!
What I also love about this rug is the medium thickness – thick enough so that it provides some cushioning but not so thick that it doesn’t fit under doors or cause furniture that’s half on/half off the rug like my nightstands to be wobbly:
I also love that jute rugs are amazing for layering – having a large jute rug that covers most of the room covered by a smaller patterned rug is a beautiful look! They also add warmth and texture to a room which makes spaces more interesting and welcoming.
The only con that I can think of with jute rugs is that many don’t have bound edges, meaning that they have a lot of flexibility and “give” so that the edges of the rug aren’t completely straight when you first roll it out. But what I’ve found is that if you take some time and go along the edges and push and pull the fibers at the edges you can create a pretty straight edge if that’s important to you:
Other Rugs I Love
What about some options I tried that aren’t jute? For spaces where you want a rug that’s super plush and soft (it’s legitimately the softest rug I’ve ever walked on), {this Moroccan shag rug} is a great option:
Also check out {this Moroccan Trellis rug} if you want a rug with a similar design but lower pile.
And if you’re looking for a rug that’s soft but low pile, {this gray patterned rug} is a great choice:
It’s made of synthetic material so if you want something that’s highly cleanable (like if you have pets that have accidents) it’s a winner.
So what do you think – do you have a favorite?
