Update: Our bathroom is DONE! Check out my master bathroom reveal {here}!
We’re finally on the home stretch of our master bathroom addition! I always underestimate how many decisions go into a big project like this and how crazy time consuming it is too. There have definitely been some bumps along the way but now that I’m seeing the finishing touches going into the space I’m so excited with how it’s turning out and am dying to share the details with you. Ready to see?? (post includes affiliate links; full disclosure statement available {here})
Let’s kick things off with my latest design plan for the space:
Click for Sources: 2-Light vanity lights | Mirrors | Double vanity | Faux tangerine branch | Faucet | Crystal & brass door knob | Marble hexagon shower floor tile | Marble & brass canisters | Marble & brass soap dispenser | Woven pendant | Cross handled shower valve trim | Towels | Accent tile | Bath brush | Round woven tray (similar) | Tub filler | Bath tub
When I last updated you guys, we had just finished framing so there wasn’t a whole lot of pretty going on. Since then, our bathroom has been insulated (we used spray foam insulation), drywalled, and primed and most of the tiling has been done – I never realized what a messy job the tiling prep work is:
I had picked out my accent wall tile early on but had the hardest time deciding on floor and shower tile. For the bathroom floor, I wanted a large-scale neutral tile that would pull together the colors of my accent wall and shower tile. My two final contenders were {this matte black tile} and {this concrete gray ceramic tile}:
The matte black pulled in the darker color of my accent tile while the concrete gray pulled in the lighter tones. Both would have worked well but I ultimately chose the concrete gray (which has some warmer greige tones than a true cold concrete gray) instead of the black. While I loved the contrast of the black tile against the accent tile and white walls, I decided that the black might make make my space too dark. Plus I realized it would show every speck of dust or debris that landed on it. When I put a few of the dark tiles on our floor to help make my decision, just walking back and forth over it left white specks of debris – definitely too much of a cleaning nightmare for me!
Before installation of the floor tile, a Nuheat floor mat was added that will heat the tile during our cold Connecticut winters. How amazing is that? It’s definitely one of the things I’m most excited about in our new space. Here’s what it looked like after the mat went in – the lines in the floor are the mat’s heating cables:
And next came the accent wall in the nook that our bathtub will nestle into. I knew I loved this tile (it’s {this Rattan tile} c/o Walker Zanger) but once it went up on the wall, I was totally obsessed. It couldn’t be more perfect for my space! Here’s an in-progress view of the tile installation last week:
The shower tiling has been finished too – I chose {this Bianco Bello 2″ hexagon tile} c/o Walker Zanger for the shower floor and am so happy with how it turned out (this pic is from before it was grouted):
The walls of the shower are also being done in Bianco Bello tile in {this 3″ x 12″ field tile size}. I left on Thursday to go out of town for the weekend and this is where things were at at that point (FYI for those of you in the know about installing shower tile – the AcrylPro buckets are empty buckets used to hold water and thinset – it’s NOT what was used to install the shower tile):
I love the variation in tile color that comes with marble and am so happy that I went with honed marble instead of a polished option. They finished tiling the shower and the shower niches while I was gone on Friday and Jeff (who’s at home holding down the fort) texted me these pics of our two niches – love them!! This is our main niche for shampoo bottles, etc:
and this is the small niche below it that I had added as a foot rest for shaving since we aren’t installing a bench seat in our shower:
Everything was grouted yesterday and will be sealed today and then we’ll be moving on to painting and installing the vanity, shower frame, lighting, and other pretties. Here’s a peek at my plans for what’s going into the space. For our vanity, I chose {this double sink vanity} with a weathered wood finish and caned detailing on the doors:

The knobs that come with it are kinda wimpy so I’m playing around with some different hardware options including {these frosted acrylic knobs} but haven’t made any final decisions yet. Our faucets are going to be {these cross handled brushed nickel beauties}:
My shower hardware mimics the cross handles of my faucets – I chose {this shower valve trim} in the Satin Nickel finish:
along with {this thin shower head}, {this handshower} , and {this shower drain}.
For the mirrors above our vanity I bought two of {these curved edge rectangular mirrors}:
It comes in several finish options – since I love to mix metal finishes I decided to go with the gold:
For lighting, I’m planning to use {these globe light sconces} above the mirrors:
I’m not yet sure what I’m going with for the pendant/chandelier above our tub but right now these are my two top contenders:
Between our shower and the wall of our tub niche, we’ll have some open shelving for towels and other accessories and I’m planning on {these floating shelves} for that space:
There are just a few other small details that I’m ironing out but for the most part I’m just rolling with these choices and crossing my fingers that it turns out like the vision I have in my head! So what do you think?? If you want to see more day to day details of the progress on my renovation, you can follow along on my Instagram posts and stories {here} – there’s going to be a lot happening in this space in the next few weeks!
Update! The tile is done and I’m working on the finishing touches including a light fixture for over the tub – I switched up my plan and now think that {this gorgeous oversized pendant} (also available {here}) is going to be the one I go with:
This sucker is HUGE! Check out {this similar pendant} if you want the look on a slightly smaller scale. 🙂
