Today I’m teaming up with some of my favorite ladies in blogland (Lisa of Shine Your Light, Jennifer of Dimples & Tangles, and Pam of Simple Details) to dish about our five favorite paint colors. I love talking paint!
And since you can never have too many paint color recommendations, we’ve brought in a fabulous guest host to share her five favorite paint colors too – welcome to Cassie of Primitive & Proper! Cassie is a furniture painting goddess and works miracles in bringing dated or worn pieces to life with paint and her own creative touch – this kilim inspired dresser that she transformed is one of my favorites:
Ready to check out my five favorite paint colors? (the image below is Pinnable for future reference!)
1. Benjamin Moore Coventry Gray
It’s a beautiful, not-too-light, not-too-dark gray that’s on the exterior of our home. I wish I could take credit for picking it out but I’ve got to give props to the previous homeowners on this one. Love it!
2. Benjamin Moore Nightfall
This is a dark charcoal gray that looks black in most light – not a “dark hole” kind of black but rather a soft, cozy kind of black. Next to crisp white trim, it looks amazing! You might see this color on Lisa’s favorite paint color list too, since she’s the smart one who recommended it to me when I was on the hunt for a great black paint for our home office. I threw it up on the wall along with 4-5 other samples and it was the clear winner!
3. Benjamin Moore White Dove
I tried LOTS of different white paint samples before deciding that Benjamin Moore’s White Dove is my favorite white. It’s not too stark of a white but not a dirty white either and it has some warmth to it without being too yellowy. We have it on the walls in both our kitchen and foyer.
4. Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen
I’ve used Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint in French Linen to paint several furniture pieces, including the kitchen table in our previous home (see {this post} for my Annie Sloan chalk painting tips!). It’s simply a great no-fail khaki gray color that looks amazing on whatever you paint it with.
5. Sherwin Williams Keystone Gray
I saved my all-time favorite paint color for last – Sherwin Williams Keystone Gray. It’s a dark gray with a lot of brown in it that has so much depth and beauty. I used it in the dining and living room in our previous house and used it again in those same rooms in our current house. I did tweak the original formula just slightly (but it’s VERY close to the original) – if you want the tweaked formula that I used, you can find it at the end of {this post about our dining room}.
Now it’s time to check out my friends’ five favorite paint colors – I can’t wait to see which colors they picked!
Lisa – Shine Your Light
Pam – Simple Details
Jennifer – Dimples & Tangles
Cassie – Primitive & Proper
Do you have a favorite paint color or two to share? I’d love to know what they are!
I hope you all have a great day – I’m looking forward to some goofing around time with my girls since they’re off school for the day 🙂 I’ll see you back here on Thursday with the last update on my daughter’s bedroom makeover before the final reveal next week!
i love white dove, too, and your nightfall office always gets me! thank you SOOOOOOO much for your kind words and for having me! i love talking about paint! 🙂
Thank YOU for joining along with us – so fun to have you!
I love SW Fawn Brindle (similar to your keystone gray, I think) and Mindful Gray is a great true gray, not too dark and not too light. Love this feature.
Thank you for sharing these! I just marked them as favorites on my paint deck 🙂
AS French Linen almost made my list too, I think I’ve used it three times, and it’s always so pretty! I think I’m going to have to try Nightfall, I’ve always wanted to paint a room black and it would be the perfect baby step for me! : )
You definitely need a black room in your life – I’m so thankful for Lisa’s awesome paint recommendation!!
Really loving your choices, Kris. I need to try Nightfall!
Thanks Jennifer! I was thinking the same about the black that you featured!
Thanks for sharing your list Kris! I love nightfall best of all!
Nightfall is so pretty! I have White Dove on my kitchen cabinets and I am very happy with the Manchester Tan I have in my kitchen and family room.
Shelley
Such a helpful list–thank you! Looking forward to more favorites to come.
Hello,
I love the graphite paint from Annie Sloan and all of her colours overall!
Thanks for sharing that Chantal – I’ve never used AS’s Graphite color before but it looks so pretty!
Would the Nightfall be a good choice for painting hallway /bedroom doors?
Hi Barbara! I’ve never used it in a satin or semigloss on doors but one that I have seen that I love is Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron!
What color is your exterior front door? I’m thinking of doing same paint color for exterior of our home but I’m having trouble with door color.
Unfortunately I don’t know the door color – it was that color when we moved in and they didn’t leave any paint cans behind!
I have been searching for the right gray for my presently white Cape cod house. Lots of people suggested dark grays but that doesnt seem to reflect me. I love the coventry grey. I have ordered heritage red doors. What do you suggest for the shutters and garage doors.
Nancy
That gray will look so pretty with the red doors. I’ld probably just go for white trim and garage doors!
Hi Kris,
We are getting ready to paint our home Coventry gray. I was thinking of BM Wrought Iron for the shutters and doing a wood front door. What are your thoughts?
I think that would be a beautiful paint color combination!
