Colder weather is around the corner and since we’d love to keep using our patio as long as we can, I’ve started hunting for a great fire pit. Before I show you the fire pits I’ve found so far (post includes affiliate links – see my full disclosure statement {here}), I’d love to show you where it will be going. You can consider this a “before” tour because I haven’t done a single thing to our patio since we moved in a year ago. No pillows, no cute side tables, nada. But I’ve got some great bones to work with as far as the patio itself.
You can step right out onto the patio from our kitchen but there’s also a stone walkway leading to it from the side of the house. Hope will lead the way…
My husband is our resident landscaper – he deserves props for keeping those boxwoods framing the patio beautifully shaped:
This is where the fire pit will go – surrounded by these four chairs in place of the coffee table:
You all know my decorating style pretty well by now so it probably won’t surprise you that I’m looking for a fire pit with a simple design and rustic elegance. My favorite is this Iron Oxide Patina Wood Burning Fireplace from Lowe’s – the flat ring around it would be perfect for resting happy hour cocktails! The only problem is the price – yikes! Maybe it will go on clearance?
I also found some great copper fire pits that would develop a beautiful, weathered patina over time. And they’re reasonably priced. My favorite is this Hand Hammered Copper Fire Pit:
I also love this Stone Base Fire Pit:
and this Cast Iron Dish Fire Pit:
So what do you think – are any of these looking like “the one” to you?
Great choices Kris. Hate to say it, but the Lowe’s one is my fave (despite the price). Maybe it will go on clearance soon – just don’t buy it before I do 🙂
Why is it no surprise to me that my favorite is your favorite? 🙂
oooh i love the copper cauldron bowl!!!
You’re back yard is perfection! Props to your hubby for keeping everything pristine. Looks great!! And a fire pit would definitely be the perfect Fall addition to your patio. I love the idea of a copper one!
beautiful backyard! wish we could have a garden like yours here….with 100 degree temps lately, everything here looks and IS so parched! we just came back from a long vacation in Colorado and it’s been hard re-entering this awful heat……ok, so back to those great fire pit choices: they’re all cool, but i like the Target one!
Your back yard is perfect! Cute pup too!
First of all your yard is amazing, so beautiful! I like the copper options. That will be the perfect backyard spot this fall!
They are all beautiful in different ways. As is your patio, path and Dog! And Dog leads me to my take on this. Why Dog? Ummm because, animal, nature, conservation … So maybe the most Eco friendly of the lot would be my pick …
I’m thinking that the copper ones would be pretty eco friendly because they could actually be melted down once they wore out!
If it’s not the warmest a matching bowl / basket / container could hold a selection of throws, shawls, etc to wrap up and snuggle down?
Love that idea!!
Your backyard is amazing! I dream of a lush backyard like yours with all the mature landscaping! Can’t wait to see which one you choose!
Your yard is so gorgeous! I’m jealous! I’m a sucker for copper…the copper fire pits are definitely my favorite. 🙂
I’m digging the copper one from Lowe’s. Love the look of copper against your iron chairs, plus it looks so sturdy.
I’m keeping an eye on that sucker in hopes that it goes on clearance over Labor Day!
Have no idea on the prices, but I love the last one!
BTW your patio is lovely!
Kris, your patio is SO beautiful!! I’d want to stretch out the season as long as possible too, the hammered copper is my favorite, too. Kudos to your gardener! 🙂
Wow! Your patio doesn’t need one thing…it already looks like it’s straight out of a magazine! I like either of the Target options. That will be so nice this Fall!
I love the last one but have no idea how pricey these can be, it will look so gorgeous in that beautiful backyard!
My favorite it your first and last option Kris. And your patio would be perfect for either one. Have you considered building a permanent one? Anyway, a fire pit would be perfect, we would love to have one too, unfortunately, we don’t have the space and my husband is freaking out about the possible accidents our younger son and now upcoming baby, might get from it. We do have a chiminea to warm us on those cozy fall nights, but nothing beats the embers from a fire pit. Good luck!
Beautiful garden and sweet dog!!! We used to have a copper one that got filled with water when it rained (in Florida) and then it would be filled with murky ash water…remember to cover it!
I love Hope’s legs. She looks like she’s wearing black, pointy toe boots.
I just ordered the wood looking one from Restoration Hardware last night! I’ve been waiting for it to go as cheap as possible and I think it’s was almost there. We can’t have wood burning fire pits in our city so I had to go with the natural gas option.
Oh my goodness! GORGEOUS, LUSH backyard! I love the RH fire pits. Concrete fabulousness!! xo
Your patio is to die for, Kris!!! It is my new inspiration for my boring backyard! 🙂 I love the firepits you’ve selected. My choice would be one of the copper ones. And, holy smokes, is the one from Lowes expensive!!
Have you looked at Plow and Hearth? Some nice options….some a few too rustic/campfire, but some are really sophisticated.
I just found your blog this week and I am loving it!
Thanks Alana – I just hopped over to Plow & Hearth and looked around – thanks so much for the great source. They have a few that I really like. It’s gotten so cold here so quickly that we were just debating last night whether we should bother getting one now vs. justing waiting and getting one on sale in a few months so we’ll be ready to go next fall.
I love the ground cover but can tell what it is? Please share is it ivy, pachaysandra or something else?
Hi Jennifer – it’s pachysandra which has been great for strangling out any weeds and keeping things looking lush but I think we’re actually going to remove the area near our house this summer. We live in a pretty wooded area and it’s become a mouse haven 🙁
