Do you guys find shopping for sheets to be totally confusing? I literally had threadbare sheets on my bed for over a year because I got overwhelmed by figuring out what thread count, materials, etc. I should be looking for when shopping for new ones. I’m pretty sure that a lot of you are in the same boat – I can’t tell you how many times over the past years I’ve gotten emails asking about where to buy the best sheets. My response has always been “I’ll let you know when I figure it out!”. Well, I went all sheet geek a few months back and did hours of research on what to look for, read almost every review out there, and then took the sheets I chose for a test drive (or actually sleeps!). And I’m happy to report that I’ve finally got some great sheets to recommend to you! (this post includes affiliate links – see my full disclosure statement {here})
They’re {these sheets} from a small company called Boll & Branch. Check it out – my bedroom’s looking pretty hotel swanky with my new sheets and bedding, right?!
The packaging is beautiful – a glossy white box tied with a satin ribbon (I felt like I was opening up a present!). After taking off my winter bedding and washing it up, the boxes my new bedding came in were perfect for storing it until the cold weather comes back around later this year:
Of course I love pretty things, but when choosing new bed sheets, it was about a whole lot more than just pretty. These are the things that sold me on Boll & Branch sheets:
- They’re made with single-ply yarn – did you know that the ply of yarn tells you a whole lot more about the quality of your sheets than thread count? I had no idea! It turns out that many manufacturers inflate their thread counts by using double- or triple-ply yarns made by twisting 2-3 lower-grade threads together. So a 500 thread count sheet from one company is often not going to be the same quality of a 500 thread count sheet from another company. If you see 800 thread count sheets for a bargain price, be wary.
- They’re made with 100% organic cotton with no pesticides and with Fair Trade labor.
- The cost is reasonable. Boll & Branch’s sheets are not cheap but they’re priced well for luxury sheets and I’m expecting them to last longer than ones I’d pay less for. They’re able to keep their costs down by selling directly online to consumers without the costs of middlemen and retail space.
- The top sheet is generously sized. After years of my husband and I playing tug of war with our top sheet, I wanted one that was wider than average and would end the sheet tugging game!
- They have over 5,000 customer reviews that are the best I came across anywhere (see for yourself {here}).
- They stand behind their products and offer returns within 30 days for anything you’re not 100% satisfied with.
Now that I’ve had several weeks to sleep on them, I can also say that they’re super soft and have a substantial, very luxurious feel. The only downside to make you all aware of is that they’re not wrinkle free. From what I’ve read, having wrinkle free sheets requires using synthetic fibers or “finishing” them with a chemical process – it was one thing I knew I’d be giving up to when I decided that 100% organic cotton was best and is a trade-off I’m happy with. Boll & Branch recommends that you shake your sheets and other bedding out between going from the washer to the dryer to decrease the number of wrinkles. I’ve tried this and it does help but if you’re wrinkle-free obsessed you’ll still have to get out the steamer or iron.
And while I wanted to focus on giving you all the sheet scoop today, I should mention that I love the rest of my new Boll & Branch bedding too!
It’s so nice having the lighter and brighter look that white bedding gives my room for summer. The bedding I chose is {this} banded duvet cover in white/stone (it has ties on the inside of each corner to keep your duvet insert in place – is a must for me!), {these} banded euro shams in white/ stone, and {these} white hemmed standard shams. I also have a cute embroidered lumbar sham in gray with a diamond pattern (the diamond pattern is no longer available in gray but {this chevron pattern} is)!
I’m loving that all of my bedding pieces have nice, crisp edging so that the “ears” of my shams stand straight up!
And for those of you who are wondering about having white bedding with a dog (especially one like Hope who is spoiled enough to think the bed is as much hers as ours :), I always make sure there’s a throw on the bed and she gravitates right to it!

I’m trying to use my beautiful new bedding as incentive to be better about making my bed every day – it’s not something I’ve been very good about in the past. That’s partially because Hope usually sleeps in later than me and then I don’t find the time to get back around to making it once she’s out of bed (did I tell you she’s way too spoiled?!). But now I’m getting in the habit of doing it once I’ve gotten my kids off to school – I’ve actually been hanging out on it most mornings for ten minutes or so to plan my day and figure out what I need to get done (I’m a to-do list junkie – paper and pencil all the way!).
It’s been so much nicer starting my day off this way instead of sitting in front of the computer and is a habit I hope I stick with:
I hope you found all of this info on sheets to be helpful as you chose your own!
