Want to create framed agate wall art? I’ll show you how! It’s the easiest of DIYs that results in a high-end look!
Some of my favorite pieces of art in our home are simple, inexpensive DIYs. While I’m definitely crafty, I’m not a good artist so I let nature do the work by creating DIY art with natural elements. Two of my favorite pieces are the framed agate slices hanging over the toilet in our budget bathroom makeover:
The stenciled powder room walls are busy and full of pattern so I needed art that was simple to balance it out. After finding some coasters made from agate slices at a local home store, I decided that they would be the perfect subtle art for my space. I mounted the two slices in a pair of frames for a simple but elegant look. I’ll show you the simple steps to knocking this framed agate wall art out! 1. Gather Your Supplies
To create your own framed agate wall art, you’ll need:
- Thin agate slices (you can find them {here})
- Glue dots (I used {these ZOTS}) or a glue gun
- White cardstock
- Thin cardboard
- Frame with matted border (mine are from Target)
2. Add Glue Dots To The Back of Your Slices
After deciding which side of the agate slice you want to display in your frame, put several glue dots around the rim of the back of the slice:
Then center it in the opening of your frame (glue dots facing up, front of frame facing down):
3. Cut Cardstock & Cardboard To Size
Then I simply laid a piece of white textured cardstock on top of it to create the background. The key is to first cut your cardstock to the exact height of the frame so that it doesn’t slip up and down in the frame once the agate slice is glued onto it.
Since the agate slice has some dimension to it, I took the piece of cardboard that comes with the frame and cut it so that it covers everything except the middle part of frame where the agate slice is, helping to even out the depth.

4. Place the Back On Your Frame And Hang It Up!
Finally, place the back of the frame on and…instant art!

Other Ideas for Art With Natural Elements
Want a few other simple ideas for creating art using natural elements? One super easy idea is to frame a few feathers with a pretty frame:
Using a similar idea but with a longer frame and pheasant feathers would be gorgeous! Another idea is to frame dried leaves, flowers, or greenery such as I did for this framed piece:
Framed botanicals can look amazing when hung in a grid pattern like Sherry of Design Indulgence did here:
