    Decorating with Ticking Stripe Fabric

Finding fabrics for pillows, bedding, or upholstered pieces that work well with the colors and textures already in your space can be a challenge. If you’re looking for a somewhat neutral fabric because there is already a lot of color and pattern in your space, ticking stripe can be a great choice. Its subtle pattern adds style but doesn’t compete with any busy patterns and colors nearby.  Ticking stripe also looks fabulous in rooms decorated mostly or entirely in neutrals, bringing a classic, refined feel. And another plus – it never goes out of style. I’d love to share some of my favorite uses for it (post includes affiliate links – full disclosure statement available {here})

It’s a great fabric to use in small doses like a few throw pillows,

a tablecloth like the one used in {this beautiful wedding table}, or even a shower curtain:

But ticking stripe fabric also looks fabulous in larger doses where it takes center stage such as Carolina Herrera Baez’s Madrid home {in Elle Decor here} where ticking stripe covers the walls of her gorgeous entry and is trimmed with jute ribbon and nailhead trim. She also used black and white cotton ticking stripe fabric to create an amazing canopy for the four poster bed in her master bedroom as shown {here}. Or how about a ticking stripe duvet?:

Using ticking stripe fabric on large upholstered pieces such as a sofa or chair is another option I love. I’m also loving this desk skirt made with ticking stripe fabric for the front desk of the interior design shop “Black & Spiro”, showcased on Absolutely Beautiful Things:

    Update!
How did I end up bringing ticking stripe fabric into my home? As a table runner to soften up my long dining room table. There are loads of inexpensive ticking stripe fabrics to choose from and I looked at a ton of them but of course the one I found that worked best with the fabric color of my dining room end chairs was one of the most expensive options – Schumacher’s linen Wesley Ticking Stripe in Ebony available {here}.

I was planning to have someone sew the table runner for me but after going over budget with the fabric, I ended up making it myself. The sewing part ended up being pretty simple and I even added some fun macrame fringe to the ends:

You can check out the full tutorial for my DIY macrame fringe table runner {here}. And since I had quite a bit of fabric left over from my table runner project, I used it to make several bulletin boards, the most recent of which is this cork bulletin board for my kitchen:
Simple step by step tutorial for making a DIY fabric covered cork bulletin board. A great way to get organized!

My favorite part is the catch-all pocket at the bottom! You can find the simple tutorial for making this framed cork board {here}.

    Have a great weekend everyone!
