Bring on the pumpkins and mums because it’s time to start decorating for fall! Today I’m sharing my favorite fall front porch ideas from decorating our own porch for the season the past few years. I may go just a little overboard with the mums and pumpkins sometimes but… nah! The more the merrier! Let’s get to it… (post includes affiliate links; full disclosure statement available {here}):

Porch sources: Fall wreath | Doormat | Lantern sconces | Large planters (closest to door) | Urn planters | Set of black lanterns
1. Add Color With Mums
My favorite way to add color to our fall front porch is with a variety of different-colored mums. I typically put some large-and-in-charge mums flanking our door like these red beauties:

and then use smaller mums cascading down the steps. My favorite color mums to use are red, orange, and white for the perfect fall mix!
2. Use Planters of Varying Heights
Having plants at varying heights will make your fall front porch more interesting. I put the large mums by our front door (including the red ones above) in {these large urn planters}. Mine are the Cement color but they also come in Taupe and Black. They’re lightweight so are easy to store but once they’re filled with soil and plants they’re heavy enough that they won’t tip over when it’s windy.
The other planters I always use are {these stone urn planters}. These are extremely well made and very heavy. If you’ve ever had issues with wind knocking your planters over, you definitely wouldn’t experience that with these – they are rock solid:

I often leave some of the smaller mums in the original planters I bought them in or use {these small planters} for a few:

3. Add a Non-Traditional Plant or Two
I wanted to add a little dose of unexpected in with the traditional pumpkins and mums so used a pair of these large cabbages one year and I absolutely loved the unique colors and shape they added:

Other great plants to bring into your fall mix are crotons. They have these for great prices at Home Depot in the fall every year:

4. Light It Up With Lanterns
Our fall front porch decor often includes lanterns too. I’ve used two sets of {these lanterns trios} for years:

Whenever we have guests coming to our house at night, I light the candles in them and they cast the most beautiful glow!
Some years I’ve even filled both trios with little white baby boo pumpkins:

I keep my lanterns on my front porch throughout the holidays too. My favorite look is to fill them with inexpensive ornaments and tie holiday ribbon on the top of the largest lantern:

5. Don’t Forget the Pumpkins!
Just as I like the stagger the heights of our plants, choose different sized and shaped pumpkins to complete the look of your fall front porch! Sometimes I’ll use a mix of colors, including some heirloom pumpkins with unique shapes, and other years I’ll choose all-white:

If you live in the south where pumpkins don’t last very long because it’s still warm outside, there’s no shame in using some faux pumpkins! The faux pumpkins like {these} that look very realistic are pretty pricey but you can use them year after year. Consider a mix of real and faux pumpkins so you’ll have some fauxs that will last throughout the season plus a few real pumpkins to carve up for Halloween.
6. Dress It Up With a New Doormat
It’s always fun to switch up your doormat for fall! You can get a neutral doormat that you can continue to use year-round like {this pretty patterned doormat}:

or use one that’s all about fall like {this “Hey There Pumpkin” doormat} that I’ve also used:

7. Pull It All Together With a Wreath
Tie all of the colors in your porch together with a beautiful wreath on your front door! The year that I decorated with red, orange, and white mums, I used {this gorgeous 24″ fall wreath} that tied all of those colors together:

Other Simple Fall Touches
While I decorate my front porch up for fall, I don’t really go all-out inside. I keep things pretty simple! If you want to add touches of fall to your home without spending hardly any time or money, simply snag a bunch of white baby boo pumpkins (most grocery stores have them!) and spread them throughout your home! It couldn’t be more quick and simple but definitely adds the perfect little fall vibe.
In our kitchen, I simply added a few to our floating corner shelves:

(See my post on our kitchen remodel before and after for all kitchen sources)

I’ve also sprinkled them throughout bookcases and in the built-in cabinet in our dining room:

Other ideas are putting baby boos in a pretty bowl as a table centerpiece, adding a trio to the top of your coffee table or an end table, and putting them in lanterns outside or by your fireplace.
And with that, I hope you all enjoy the rest of your week! if you’re looking for more fall inspiration, be sure to check out my post on fall decor ideas!
XOXO,
