As we enter the new year, I’m excited to be sharing my 8th annual home decor trends post with 8 decorating trends to look for in 2023! While I’ve never been one to change my decorating style based on what’s trending, it’s always fun to see new styles and ideas emerge that inspire me to think outside the box with my decorating plans. I’d love to hear what you guys think of these eight trends and whether there are any that you’ll be embracing in the new year! Paint Colors: Vibrant Shades & Warm Neutrals
I LOVE talking about paint colors and am always interested to see the colors that the leading paint companies choose for their color of the year. While some years the trending colors have a lot of similarities, for 2023 we’re seeing a variety of different shades, most of which fall into one of two categories: vibrant colors or warm neutrals. Benjamin Moore’s paint color of the year is Raspberry Blush (2008-30) which they describe as “a vivacious shade of coral tinged with pink.”
It’s not a color that would work well with the style of my own home, but I can envision it looking gorgeous in a historic home paired with dark woods and other rich color tones.
Sherwin-Williams’ color of the year is Redend Point (SW9081) which they describe as “a soft neutral that is highly flexible and imparts a cozy warmth and natural earthiness to any space in your home.” I wasn’t too sure about this color:
But then I saw how my friend KariAnne used it to paint stripes on an accent wall in her recent bedroom makeover – it looks amazing! Check it out (including the clever thing she did with her curtains!) on Thistlewood Farms {here}.
Behr’s color of the year is Blank Canvas (DC-003) which is a soft white hue with a warm undertone that “lets you redefine and renew your space”:
PPG and Glidden’s color of the year is Vining Ivy which is a deeply saturated, jewel-toned green with cool turquoise undertones:

The Return of Pleats
Along with the fashion trend of pleated skirts, we’re going to be seeing more pleated home decor in 2023. I can totally get on board with some of the pleated furniture and decor pieces I’ve seen, including the pleated skirt on {this beautiful sofa}:
But there are a few other pleated home decor pieces I’m not so sure about, including pleated lamp shades like the one on {this lamp}:
All I can think of when I look at it is… dust catcher 😂 . What do you think?
Plaster and Oversized Lighting
I’ve been noticing more and more light fixtures with a plaster or textured finish and think we’ll see this style of lighting trend in 2023. We recently installed {this vertical chandelier} (that I scored at a fraction of the current price 🙌🏻) in our “circus room” and I absolutely love it! If this fixture had a brass or silver finish, the lines of the fixture would be too modern for our home, but with the plaster finish, it’s perfect:
Light fixtures are also trending toward being more oversized, which I’m totally on board with. I used {this oversized rattan light fixture} for the master bathroom remodel in our old house:
and it was one of my favorite design decisions for that space but one of the most polarizing ones for you (you guys were split, with some loving it and others not). Another lighting trend for 2023 that we’ll continue to see more and more of is smart home lighting systems, such as my Caséta by Lutron system.
Curves & Arches
One of the trends I predicted for 2022 was curved furniture, and we saw a lot of it! In 2023, this trend will extend beyond furniture to architectural details such as arched doorways and curved walls. I love the curved shape and molding design of this gorgeous entryway:

Statement Marble
In 2023, we’ll see more statement-making marble in kitchens, bathrooms, and on fireplaces too. This includes marble with more movement and veining, such as the marble used in the countertop-to-ceiling backsplash of this kitchen:
and marble in more dramatic, unique colors such as {this Calacatta Rosa Extra Marble slab} with rose pink and terracotta veining:
My final three 2023 trends come from Pinterest’s Trends Forecast, which is based on what users are searching for on their platform. The first of these three trends is my favorite: dog pawties!
Dog Pawties
Pinterest predicts that we’ll see more dog pawties (get it? pawties aka parties) in 2023. I don’t think that there’s a trend that I could love more! Some of the trending search terms are “pool pawties,” “dog birthday party ideas & decorations,” and “dog party favors.” I searched these terms myself thinking that there wouldn’t be much out there, but wow… there’s an abundance of everything you need to throw a killer dog pawty! I think Cricket needs one, don’t you?!

Home Spa Bathrooms
Pinterest is also seeing a trend toward creating bathrooms that have the features and feel of a home spa. There’s a focus on creating spa-like showers as a replacement for long soaks in the tub with search terms such as “home spa bathrooms,” “amazing walk in showers,” and “doorless shower ideas” on the rise. We’ll likely see showers with higher-end materials such as marble and luxuries such as heated floors too, both of which are features we put into our master bathroom remodel (and both of which I miss in our current in-need-of-renovation bathroom!):

Mushroom Decor
This was a trend that I didn’t see coming 😂! Pinterest predicts that mushroom decor is “in” and from the crazy number of home decor items I found in my search, I think they’re right:
Sources: 1. Canvas art | 2. Stool | 3. Tufted throw pillow | 4. Boucle throw pillow | 5. Concrete garden figurine | 6. Toadstool | 7. Pedestal serving plate | 8. Silk table lamp | 9. For Gen Z and Boomers, along with mushroom decor comes a love of… everything weird and creative! Pinterest is seeing more searches for things like “weirdcore bedroom,” “fantasy art,” and “funky house decor.” Other home-related trends predicted by Pinterest are rainscapes (drought-tolerant landscapes), hipstoric homes (finding new ways to honor old stuff), and entryway & porch makeovers.
And with that being the last of my 2023 trends, what do you think? Are you excited about jumping on board with any of these trends?
