Deciding between Sherwin Williams Repose Gray vs. Agreeable Gray? I’m sharing the differences between these two paint colors to help you decide which is best for your space!
I’ve been wanting to paint our foyer for a while now after finishing up removing all of the wallpaper back in September (remember that little piece of hell?!). I even bought a bunch of samples but hadn’t gotten around to putting them up on the wall. Well, I finally got back on the paint-the-foyer train so this weekend I painted my samples on a wall in our foyer and I’ve narrowed my choices down to two – it’s Sherwin Williams Repose Gray vs. Agreeable Gray:

Here are the differences I noted in looking at Repose Gray vs. Agreeable Gray:
1. Repose Gray is slightly darker than Agreeable Gray. Repose Gray has a LRV (Light Reflectance Value) of 58 and Agreeable Gray has a LRV of 60 (the lower the LRV, the darker the paint color will look and feel once up on the wall)

2. Repose Gray has more gray in it while Agreeable Gray has more beige in it. Repose Gray can also take on a green tinge in some spaces.
I’m leaning towards Agreeable Gray. What do you think?

I’ll definitely share pictures once I’m done so stay tuned…

I’ve used SW Agreeable Gray in3 client projects last year (and in my dad’s home). It’s SO versatile and has looked great in each environment, even though lighting was so different. It kind of whispers “gray” rather than yells it. Love, love, love it.

Yay! That makes me so happy and more confident that it’s the way to go – thanks Heather!

I don’t know why but your feed is not coming up on my blogroll feed regularly 🙁 I am missing all your good deals and projects- unacceptable!! I am going to to start using Blog Lovin instead bc I hate missing things! Love your new mirror!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Funny you say that Beth because I have been lost without my blogroll since moving over to Wordpress (why can’t Wordpress come up with one???) and missing so much stuff so I’ve been starting to use Bloglovin more. Glad you like the mirror!
savvy shopper says
Definitely Agreeable Gray. Love how the foyer is shaping up. Can’t wait to see it all done.
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Yep – after throwing it up on the other two walls just to be sure, Agreeable Gray it is!
Stacey says
That mirror is going to look so great there! And I totally forgot about that bench! I’m jealous all over again. Can’t wait to see it all done.
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Stacey – I’ve pretty much forgotten/neglected that bench too – lol!

That is such a cool mirror – can’t wait to see it hung 🙂 And I need to start checking out the paint colors at SW – I primarily use Benjamin Moore. Thanks for sourcing, Kris.
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Loi – I use mostly BM too but I like several of Sherwin Williams’ grays!
Elizabeth @ The Little Black Door says
Oh your bench is looking so good! And I love the mirror. 🙂
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Elizabeth – hopefully it will all come together ok!
Lisa @ Shine Your Light says
I was thinking about your bench and what had happened to that fun project! Um, not so fun? You are amazing for stripping it with all that detail…….wow!!! I can’t wait to see your foyer come together with all these elements – the new mirror, bench, pillows, oh my!!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
I’m pretty much the queen of dropping the ball on a project when the going gets rough to start in on something more fun and that’s what happened with that bench that has been the biggest beast to strip! I sure hope it’s worth it in the end!

I used Agreeable Grey in my bedroom and hated the pinky-purple undertone so much I only went 4 months before repainting it. Greiges are SO tricky, I am kind of off them, as you don’t know what you are getting until they are up. Your application will be different, my bedroom has 2 east-facing windows. Good luck!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Ugh. I hate hearing that but it’s so true that the greiges are tricky and so dependent upon the light that you get. I had Edgecomb Gray through the foyer and kitchen of our old house and loved it in parts of the house but then it looked totally pinky in other parts of it. Thanks for the heads up about your experience with Agreeable Gray – I’m now going to slap some samples of it up on the other two walls in the foyer to make sure it doesn’t take on that tone in my house before going for it.
Brenna@DomesticCharm says
I LOVE that mirror!!!!!! Great bargain hunting! Glad you jumped ship because what fun would only one project at a time be?! And I think agreeable gray is the best.
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks so much Brenna! I think the reality is that I thrive when I juggle things and get bored when I do things in an orderly fashion so I gotta just go with what works for me (even if it drives me husband crazy…) 🙂

Agreeable gray – the perfect griege
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Sounds like it’s been a winner for you in the past Katherine – love to hear that!

Thanks so much Marty!

you are my hero for stripping that piece…. wow. and LOVE the new mirror!!!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
It may be more idiot than hero (I was too naive to know what I was getting into…)!
Becky says
Love the mirror! I’ve seen Agreeable Gray in my girlfriend’s home and it looks great! Your foyer is going to look amazing with that bench and mirror! Can’t wait!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Glad you hear that Agreeable Gray was a winner in your friend’s house!
Jennifer @ Dimples and Tangles says
Oh, this is gonna be so good! I agree with Agreeable Gray!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Jennifer – hoping that color will work – grieges are so hard!
Liz @ Infuse With Liz says
I do love the agreeable gray (cute name too)! Love the new mirror- and especially since you got it at such a good price. Perseverance pays off! The bench is a wonderful piece- I can imagine what a pain it’s been to strip.
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Liz! That bench is one of those projects I would never have started into if I had known how much time it would take but at least I can see the finish line now!
Dagmara @ GlamistaHome says
Well, I love the new mirror and have to agree that I would not be able to just have it sit there without starting some work. It’s just too exciting. I like the agreeable gray as well, I like that it’s more defined in it’s color.
I am looking forward to seeing what you will do with that bench. Looking forward to seeing the finished product! 🙂 Happy Monday!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks so much – refinishing that bench is seriously taking forever but hopefully it will be worth it in the end!

I like Agreeably , for my Master Bedroom. What do you think ??
Diana says
Agreeable gray is warmer and Repose gray is cooler. I would choose based on the colors you have in adjoining rooms. I have used Repose gray throughout an entire home having the paint store mix only 50% of the colorant. It is a really pretty color. It feels fresh and happy. It has a soft blue green undertone. Agreeable gray goes with everything. It has a really nice warmth to it. It works great as a whole house color.I have used both these colors in my home staging career for past 11years. I always get great feedback when I use either color. Both easy to live with.
