    Repose Gray vs. Agreeable Gray

Deciding between Sherwin Williams Repose Gray vs. Agreeable Gray? I’m sharing the differences between these two paint colors to help you decide which is best for your space!

I’ve been wanting to paint our foyer for a while now after finishing up removing all of the wallpaper back in September (remember that little piece of hell?!). I even bought a bunch of samples but hadn’t gotten around to putting them up on the wall. Well, I finally got back on the paint-the-foyer train so this weekend I painted my samples on a wall in our foyer and I’ve narrowed my choices down to two – it’s Sherwin Williams Repose Gray vs. Agreeable Gray:

Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray versus Repose Gray - two great gray paint colors!

Here are the differences I noted in looking at Repose Gray vs. Agreeable Gray:

    1. Repose Gray is slightly darker than Agreeable Gray. Repose Gray has a LRV (Light Reflectance Value) of 58 and Agreeable Gray has a LRV of 60 (the lower the LRV, the darker the paint color will look and feel once up on the wall)

We'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it later!

    2. Repose Gray has more gray in it while Agreeable Gray has more beige in it. Repose Gray can also take on a green tinge in some spaces.

I’m leaning towards Agreeable Gray. What do you think?

To see examples of both paint colors in rooms and see how these two colors compare to other greige paint colors, be sure to visit {this post} on my ten favorite greige paint colors!

I’ll definitely share pictures once I’m done so stay tuned…

I’ve used SW Agreeable Gray in3 client projects last year (and in my dad’s home). It’s SO versatile and has looked great in each environment, even though lighting was so different. It kind of whispers “gray” rather than yells it. Love, love, love it.

Funny you say that Beth because I have been lost without my blogroll since moving over to Wordpress (why can’t Wordpress come up with one???) and missing so much stuff so I’ve been starting to use Bloglovin more. Glad you like the mirror!

That is such a cool mirror – can’t wait to see it hung 🙂 And I need to start checking out the paint colors at SW – I primarily use Benjamin Moore. Thanks for sourcing, Kris.

I’m pretty much the queen of dropping the ball on a project when the going gets rough to start in on something more fun and that’s what happened with that bench that has been the biggest beast to strip! I sure hope it’s worth it in the end!

I used Agreeable Grey in my bedroom and hated the pinky-purple undertone so much I only went 4 months before repainting it. Greiges are SO tricky, I am kind of off them, as you don’t know what you are getting until they are up. Your application will be different, my bedroom has 2 east-facing windows. Good luck!

Ugh. I hate hearing that but it’s so true that the greiges are tricky and so dependent upon the light that you get. I had Edgecomb Gray through the foyer and kitchen of our old house and loved it in parts of the house but then it looked totally pinky in other parts of it. Thanks for the heads up about your experience with Agreeable Gray – I’m now going to slap some samples of it up on the other two walls in the foyer to make sure it doesn’t take on that tone in my house before going for it.

Thanks so much Brenna! I think the reality is that I thrive when I juggle things and get bored when I do things in an orderly fashion so I gotta just go with what works for me (even if it drives me husband crazy…) 🙂

I do love the agreeable gray (cute name too)! Love the new mirror- and especially since you got it at such a good price. Perseverance pays off! The bench is a wonderful piece- I can imagine what a pain it’s been to strip.

Well, I love the new mirror and have to agree that I would not be able to just have it sit there without starting some work. It’s just too exciting. I like the agreeable gray as well, I like that it’s more defined in it’s color.
I am looking forward to seeing what you will do with that bench. Looking forward to seeing the finished product! 🙂 Happy Monday!

Agreeable gray is warmer and Repose gray is cooler. I would choose based on the colors you have in adjoining rooms. I have used Repose gray throughout an entire home having the paint store mix only 50% of the colorant. It is a really pretty color. It feels fresh and happy. It has a soft blue green undertone. Agreeable gray goes with everything. It has a really nice warmth to it. It works great as a whole house color.I have used both these colors in my home staging career for past 11years. I always get great feedback when I use either color. Both easy to live with.
