Deciding between Sherwin Williams Repose Gray vs. Agreeable Gray? I’m sharing the differences between these two paint colors to help you decide which is best for your space!
I’ve been wanting to paint our foyer for a while now after finishing up removing all of the wallpaper back in September (remember that little piece of hell?!). I even bought a bunch of samples but hadn’t gotten around to putting them up on the wall. Well, I finally got back on the paint-the-foyer train so this weekend I painted my samples on a wall in our foyer and I’ve narrowed my choices down to two – it’s Sherwin Williams Repose Gray vs. Agreeable Gray:

Here are the differences I noted in looking at Repose Gray vs. Agreeable Gray:
1. Repose Gray is slightly darker than Agreeable Gray. Repose Gray has a LRV (Light Reflectance Value) of 58 and Agreeable Gray has a LRV of 60 (the lower the LRV, the darker the paint color will look and feel once up on the wall)

2. Repose Gray has more gray in it while Agreeable Gray has more beige in it. Repose Gray can also take on a green tinge in some spaces.
I’m leaning towards Agreeable Gray. What do you think?

I’ll definitely share pictures once I’m done so stay tuned…

We used Agreeable Gray to paint almost all of the interior of our house about 5 years ago and I’m still happy with it. In fact, today we are painting a den (rare area that was a more beige color) and it is also going to Agreeable Gray. Hope you are happy with your results. BTW we used Repose Gray on our kitchen cabinets (also good – but I wish I’d have gone a bit darker on those – not quite dark enough to look very gray).

I thought I would use a light gray paint for interior walls but I am not a fan of white trim. I have since seen a house painted in a neutral color and they used a gray trim. I am now thinking of doing that and using possibly Repose Gray for the trim but unsure of a good light neutral color for the walls. Any ideas??

Love pearly white!!! Trim or walls. I used it on all walks before selling our home. Buyers loved the brightness & clean look. FYI I home sold fast… paint color helped.

We debated about the two but chose Repose Gray about a year ago for most of our main floor. We absolutely love it. With the lighting in some rooms we still get more beige than gray so I’m glad we chose Repose overAgreeable. – L

I painted my whole house Ageeable Grey. It looks great.

I painted my living room/dining room last summer in mindful gray, and ceilings repose gray and it turned out beautifully! I had gotten samples to help make up my mind, and loved the agreeable gray as well. I have the painting bug again and decided to do the bedrooms I’m agreeable gray! I’m so excited to get to finally use my other favorite color! Visualizing how amazing the finished project will look so that I don’t talk myself out of “opening a new can of [paint] worms”, ha!

That’s so great to know that you loved both colors!

Thank you so much for your post! I was deciding between these two colors and you made it so easy! Areeable gray it is. Thanks!

What is the paint color in your dining room in the background? I love it!
Kris Jarrett says
It’s a slightly tweaked version of Sherwin Williams Keystone Gray – you can find the exact formula at the bottom of this post: https://www.drivenbydecor.com/house-tour-dining-room/

We did agreeable grey in almost the whole house. We painted our new build ourselves and were in a time crunch. I am now slowly painting a few rooms some other colors. but the agreeable grey is there to stay in the main living space for sure. It seems quiet versatile.
Kris Jarrett says
Thanks for sharing that – so good to know!

Love the new mirror but also the older rustic rectangular one. Would you mind if I asked where you got that one? Thanks!
Kris Jarrett says
I liked that mirror a lot too – it just wasn’t a good size for my chest of drawers. That mirror was a HomeGoods find!

Repose Gray is one of the (11!!!!) samples we just threw up on our walls. I’ll have to go into the garage to see which one we went with. We narrowed it down to four SW colors (the others were Behr, all too dark or too purple) and that was one of them.
Kris Jarrett says
Ha! You sound like me Kayleigh – I always go overboard the the paint samples! Glad you found one that worked for you!

So I am between the both colors as well. I love aggreable grey but is picking up a blue undertone- did you have this problem?
Thank you????

Please Help, I have been trying to decide between the exact two same colors for months, could you please tell me why you chose agreeable gray over repose, and are you happy with your decision, I’m afraid agreeable may be to light, put I also think it is a beautiful color, one thing I do know is my husband and kids think I’m crazy, Please help ! thank you, Laura
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Hi Laura,
You crack me up! I actually ended up going with white walls only because all of the rooms off of our foyer are dark and we get little to no light in our foyer. But both Agreeable Gray and Repose Gray are beautiful colors – I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with either. I was going to go with Agreeable Gray only because I was looking for something that was more of a griege (had beige in it). Repose Gray was definitely a truer gray than Agreeable. The best choice for you honestly depends upon the colors that you have in your space and the rooms off of it – they’re both great choices!

Love the mirror. I am looking for a convex one just like it for over our fireplace. Can you tell me if it is convex? (Hard to tell from the pic).
thanks!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Gosh Bev – I just noticed that I never answered your question about the mirror – so sorry! No, it isn’t convex – it’s just a regular flat mirror. Again, sorry for the super late reply!

Before I read all the comments and saw that you had indeed made a decision, I was going to suggest Dorian Grey SW 7017. I used it in our front sitting room that is now going to be my husband’s office. It’s a lovely color. When I needed a lighter version of grey in the basement, I used Mindful Grey. I should be revealing the office fairly soon. Good luck and I hope you find your grey agreeable!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks so much for the paint color suggestions Leslie! I’m always looking for good grays so even if I don’t use them for my foyer, I’m glad to have some other color ideas for future spaces!

I am trying to stay on track with one project at a time as well, but it’s SOOOOOO hard! I am trying to give myself two rooms at a time to hopefully curb too much jumping around, but I make no promises! 🙂 Love the mirror! I just might have to order myself one…is it wood though? An online review said it wasn’t?? I would go with the Agreeable Gray for your foyer. I personally think the Repose Gray reads a little too cold. Can’t wait to see the finished foyer!
Kris @ Driven by Decor says
I’m glad it’s just not me who has decorating ADD! That’s strange about the online review – my mirror is definitely wood (and fairly heavy!).
Shelley @ Calypso in the Country says
I love that mirror! I also think Agreeable Gray is a great color. I have seen it in several pictures and seems to work well with other things.

Kris @ Driven by Decor says
Thanks Shelley. I think Agreeable Gray is the winner!
