Progressive Dinner (& A Favorite Summer Salad)

Hi guys! I’m so excited to be hosting a progressive dinner today along with four of my blogging friends – we’ll be visiting five blogger homes for five different courses, sharing a few of our favorite recipes and some design eye candy along the way! If you’re coming over from Randi Garrett’s beautiful courtyard where she hosted appetizers, welcome! I’m hosting salad in our dining room so come pile on in:

Loving this simple spring tablescape with twin floral centerpieces!

I like to decorate a heck of a lot more than I like to cook so I’m serving a simple strawberry poppyseed salad. Luckily it’s just as delicious as it is simple!

    Progressive Dinner Menu

Take a seat (I’ll let you have one of the super comfy end chairs)!

Gorgeous spirea blooms in vase lined with lemon slices - love!

My salad is a mix of fresh greens (I went with spinach), strawberries, feta cheese, almonds, and a homemade dressing that you can whip together in ten minutes:

This salad is delicious!! Post includes the simple recipe!

Here’s the simple recipe in case you want to try it out this summer:

My favorite salad recipe - Strawberry Poppyseed Salad - delicious and so simple to make!

For my tablescape, you probably noticed that I have a pair of kinda unruly vases of flowers. They’re blooms from spirea bushes in our front yard and for some reason I’ve always loved the natural, untamed look so I’m digging these beauties! I lined the vases (there’s a vase within each vase) with sliced lemons and limes as an easy way to add some color without having to go any further than the grocery store:

White spirea clipped from backyard bushes make a beautiful, natural centerpiece!

For place settings, I used my new Juliska dinnerware (that I bought with the gift card I won on Instagram!) layered on woven rattan chargers:

Love the plate wall in this neutral dining room that's decorated for spring

I folded the napkins to create a triple pocket that holds the silverware:

Love how the napkins are folded to hold the silverware! Such a cute and simple idea!

and tied on some simple circle name tags with twine:

Napkins folded to create pouches for silverware with simple name tags tied on with twine - love!

Eat up! It’s almost time for the next course!

Simple spring tablescape with backyard flowers placed in vases lined with lemon slices

Kelley Nan has grilled up some killer tilapia with mango salsa and saffron rice (yum!) on her back deck. And of course I’m dying to check out her tablescape because she always does it up right! Here’s a little sneak peek:

Beautiful summer table by Kelley Nan

OK, forks down! It’s time to pack it on up and head over to Kelley’s house by clicking {here}. I’ll see you guys over there! And just in case you missed any of the courses, you can find them all here:

    Appetizers: Randi Garrett Design

    Salad: me!

    Entree: Kelley Nan

    Dessert: Dear Lillie

Have questions about my dining room paint color or anything else you see in the room? You can find a full source list at the end of {this dining room tour post}.

Enjoy the rest of your dinner!!

Kris, this is fabulous! I can’t wait to try that fresh salad recipe. And, you totally have to teach me how to fold those adorable napkins. Every detail is spectacular.

It’s actually really simple Kathy and takes less than a minute to do. It’s hard to explain though – a couple of other people have asked too so I’ll do a little picture tutorial on a future blog post!

Thanks Betsy! The trick is to use a vase within your vase and have the lemon slices sandwiched between the two.

This dinner party is such a fun idea! I’m in love with all the the courses. Not to mention those simple little name tags for the napkins? Thats a great idea! Because of my job, I tend to host a lot of dinner parties and never really feel fully prepared, but I like to keep these ideas in my back pocket! Thanks for sharing.

Would you paint white dove in a two story foyer or is that too white ?

I would definitely use that color on a two-story foyer Sherri – it’s not a harsh white, it’s a nice soft one!

Thank you! Randi who was part of this progressive dinner post actually made the menu (I’m not sure how she made it !) but as far as the recipe card, I made it using Picmonkey which is a free online program!
