Have a small bedroom without much room for nightstands? These are my favorite narrow nightstands that are perfect for small spaces but stylish too!
Both our current and previous homes had very limited space for nightstands in our primary bedrooms. When I went online shopping for new nightstands, I found it surprisingly hard to find narrow nightstands that are both good looking and not too short! I figured some of you might be on the same hunt so I decided to share my 15 favorite small space nightstands I found. They include some higher end options all the way down to some budget options.
My nightstand “criteria” included: (1) narrow (up to 20″ wide max), (2) at least 22″ tall (a lot of the narrow nightstands are ridiculously short!), and (3) not crazy, crazy expensive (there were a lot of great options over $1000 but spending that much on a nightstand is a little nuts to me!). I’m also sharing a tip on how to figure out what nightstand height is best for your space so be sure to read to the end of the post for that. Let’s get going with my 15 favorites… (post includes affiliate links; disclosure statement available {here})

Here are a few more details on each narrow nightstand including other color/finish options…
Nightstand 1 – The Modernist Nightstand available {here} is the perfect combination of a Midcentury modern vibe with an updated classic design. I love the combination of painted white and wood surfaces and the brass legs make it a standout:
This version is 19″ wide – if you’re looking for one a touch wider, you can find its kissing cousin in a 21″ wide version {here}.
Nightstand 2 – This curved leg nightstand found {here} is the one we added to our current bedroom since we’re limited in space to having nightstands no more than 18″ wide (which is exactly the width of this one):
It comes with a simple round knob that I replaced with {this mother of pearl knob} to dress it up a bit. I wasn’t sure exactly what shade of white to expect since the pics and descriptions differ a bit but I really love it – it has a bit of grey in it so that it’s not a bright white but it’s definitely not a yellowy off-white either. It also comes in black, gray, and vanilla.
Nightstand 3 – The Hampton nightstand available {here} has a classic design with the added detail of tapered legs to give it a little style boost. If you’re looking for lots of finish options, this might be the right one for you because it’s available in white, brushed fog, smoked gray, smoked charcoal, dark espresso, dark walnut and weathered black. I really like the brushed fog finish that’s in the collage at the top along with this smoked gray finish that would blend with pretty much everything:
Nightstand 4 – {This 3-drawer nightstand} is the perfect choice if you’re looking to maximize your storage space!
It comes in a total of 11 painted and stained wood finishes and has excellent reviews. Also check out {this 3-drawer nightstand} if you want a similar look but with more molding details on the drawers.
Nightstand 5 – In our previous home, I chose a pair of {these nightstands} in gray which were a perfect fit because they were fairly narrow but also on the lower end which worked well with our mattress height:
Sources: Upholstered bed (similar) | Gray nightstands | Camp stools | White table lamps (similar) | Semi flushmount light (available {here} and {here}) | Gray & white duvet – no longer available | Gray & white dragon/floral pillows | Quilt (Flagstone color) | Drapes (mine are single-width blackout lined) | Diamond jute rug
The nightstand handles were originally a darker color but I changed them to a gold finish using one of my favorite Rub ‘n Buff colors. There are a TON of color options for this nightstand including several bright colors such as yellow and turquoise if you like to go bold!
Nightstand 6 is a curved glass + brass nightstand available {here} This nightstand is perfect if you’re looking for something light and airy that doesn’t take up much visual space:
It definitely has a glamorous vibe!
Nightstand 7 which is a gray wash nightstand with curved edge top is available {here} I love the curved edge design and that it has both a drawer and two shelves! The finish looks like one that would go with everything:
Nightstand 8 is a mirrored front nightstand available {here} with a beautiful fretwork design:
There’s a single shelf in the middle with a good amount of storage space inside. It also comes in gray.
Nightstand 9 is the Sussex Nightstand available {here} This nightstand has a simple, classic shape with molding on the drawer that adds a touch of modernism to it:
Nightstand 10 is the Metalwork Nightstand available {here}. We had this nightstand in an older version that came without a pull on the drawer (now it comes with an antique brass pull). I love the clean-lined design and that it’s one of the narrowest of the nightstands at only 16″ wide – as you can see, we didn’t have much space to work with in this bedroom so the small size was great:
They just added a white color option too that’s really pretty along with the option for a marble top on either the white or the black!
Nightstand 11 is {this cane nightstand} that I think is gorgeous! I’ve seen it in person and the website pic doesn’t do it justice. The top and shelf both have caning protected with glass:
I just wish it was less expensive – sadly, it’s the priciest one on my list.
Nightstand 12 is {this farmhouse nightstand} that comes in white, charcoal, and gray wash. It has a simple, Shaker-inspired design with a decorative keyhole at the top:
I also want to add a bargain buy to the list too – it’s the Hemnes Nightstand available {here} that’s just under $80. It has a super simple design but I’ve learned that when you’re buying furniture on a major budget, simple is usually best! There are three different color options including black-brown, white, and dark gray stained:
Now let’s wrap things up with two little tips…
Dress Your Nightstand Up With a New Knob or Pull
If you buy an inexpensive nightstand that you’re worried might look a little bit cheap, changing out the knob or pull can make an incredible difference! These are a few of my current favorites:
What Height Nightstands Should I Buy?
When you’re on the hunt for a nightstand, be sure you’re getting one that’s the right height for your bed. A good general rule of thumb is to choose nightstands that are about the same height as the top of your mattress or an inch or two higher. Most mattresses with boxsprings are about 25″ or higher while platform beds without a boxspring may be closer to 20″.
