It’s time to kick your dated ceiling fans to the curb! Choose one of these ten best ceiling fans for bedrooms and add some serious style to your space!
Our house was filled with ceiling fans when we bought it. NINE of them to be exact! I removed one of them that was in a bizarre location in our kitchen, swapped out two for pendants/chandeliers, and replaced the other six with more updated styles.
Since I think I’ve seen every ceiling fan in existence while shopping for new ones, I’m sharing the bedroom ceiling fans I love the most including the two I chose for our own home. (post includes commissionable links; for more information, see my full disclosure statement {here})
But first, here are a few important things to consider when shopping for the best ceiling fan for your bedroom…
Things to Look For When Choosing a Bedroom Ceiling Fan
- Does the fan come with a remote? Having a remote can be especially important for a bedroom because no one wants to get out of bed in the middle of the night to turn a fan off or on. If the fan you love doesn’t come with a remote, you might want to consider buying a universal fan remote such as {this remote} that works with almost all fans.
- Do you need a ceiling fan with a light or no? If you have no other overhead lights in your space (such as typical recessed can lights), you probably want one on your fan. With some fans the light is dimmable while for others it’s not so that’s another factor to consider.
- Is having a whisper quiet fan important to you? Most fans on the market today are fairly quiet and will work well in a bedroom. But what if you want a whisper quiet ceiling fan, look for one with a DC motor (as opposed to an AC motor which is what most ceiling fans have). DC motors are also more energy efficient.
- Will you need a downrod for your ceiling fan? It depends on the height of the ceiling in your bedroom. Generally, the fan blades should be a minimum of 7′ from the floor (8′ – 9′ above the floor is ideal if you have taller ceilings). For 8′ ceilings, the fan should be mounted directly on the ceiling without a downrod. For ceilings 9′ and over, your ceiling fan will need a downrod with the length depending upon the exact ceiling height. Some ceiling fans come with multiple downrods while for others you need to purchase downrods separately.
- Be sure to choose the right size ceiling fan for your space. The size (measured as the diameter of the ceiling fan from the tip of the blades) should be proportional to the room size. To determine the fan size that’s best for your space, first determine the square feet of your room by multiplying the room’s length by its width in feet. Then use these suggested guidelines:
-
- For rooms up to 75 sq ft, choose a 29″ – 36″ fan
- For room 76 to 144 sq ft, choose a 36″ – 42″ fan
- For rooms 145 to 225 sq ft, choose a 44″- 48″ fan
- For rooms 225 to 400 sq ft, choose a 48″- 54″ fan
- For rooms over 400 sq ft, choose a fan that is 54″ or larger.

And with that, let’s check out what I think are the ten best ceiling fans for bedrooms…
1. Minka Aire Roto 52″ Ceiling Fan
Some of my favorite fans are very sleek and simple in design, including the Minka Aire Roto ceiling fan that you can find {HERE} and {HERE}. The white Minka Roto fan is perfect if you’re looking for one that unobtrusively blends into the ceiling but there are four other color options too (the distressed koa color looks gorgeous!):

It’s also one of the most budget friendly fan on the list which is a plus. I bought this fan in white for our family room and am really happy with the look of it.
2. Hunter Hepburn Ceiling Fan
Beautiful ceiling fans for bedrooms that include a light are especially hard to find! I LOVE the Hunter Hepburn fan found {HERE} and {HERE} that’s a 52″ fan with a stylish globe shaped light. My favorite finish combination is the brass base with white blades (that reverse to age oak) – it’s the fan that I added to my girls room:

Other sources: Gray damask peel & stick wallpaper | Curved wood beds | White chest | Rattan lamp | White quilts | Tassel duvet covers

These are the other finish options:

3. Peregrine Industrial Ceiling Fan
If you’ve got a large bedroom and you’re looking to go big in both ceiling fan size and price, consider this 60″ Peregrine Industrial fan found {HERE}. The design is simple yet very stylish and there are several color/finish options to choose from. I especially love this brushed satin with walnut combo:

But these other finish options are gorgeous too:

4. Prominence Home Ceiling Fan
If you’re looking for a simple, stylish fan on a tight budget, this 52″ Prominence Home ceiling fan found {HERE} is definitely one to consider. It gets great reviews, can be used indoors or out, has reversible blades, and comes in three color options including bright white and matte black:

5. Cranbrook Ceiling Fan
This Cranbrook ceiling fan can be found {HERE} and {HERE} in a flush mount design with a painted drum shade and reversible blades. I especially love the Dove Gray color and think it would be the perfect bedroom ceiling fan while the two pastel colors would be darling in kids rooms:

It’s also available in a downrod version in the mint and glossy black {HERE}.
6. Spitfire Ceiling Fan
If you have a very specific combination of finishes in mind for your ceiling fan, there’s a good chance you’ll find it in the Spitfire ceiling fan found {HERE}. This indoor/outdoor ceiling fan comes in five blade finish options including white, black, weathered, natural, walnut, and driftwood that can be mixed with multiple fan base finish options including dark bronze, matte white, black, brushed satin, brushed nickel, matte griege, galvanized and driftwood. They come in 48″ and 60″ size options and are available with and without a light. These are a few of my favorite finish combinations:

If you love the design and want something similar in the white finish that’s a more budget-friendly price, also check out {this 65″ ceiling fan}.
7. Hunter Presto Ceiling Fan
If you’re looking for a high quality fan in a simple style that’s a great price and from a well respected brand, the 52″ Hunter Presto ceiling fan found {HERE} is one to check out. It comes in these three basic finish options:

Reviewers give it positive marks for being whisper quiet and moving air well. It doesn’t include a remote control so you’d need to buy that separately if you’d like one.
8. Minka Aire Wave Ceiling Fan
The 52″ Mika Aire Wave fan found {HERE} has a playful wave design that would be right at home in a bedroom with lots of personality. The fun vibe makes it a great choice for kids rooms too:

9. Torsion Ceiling Fan
The Torsion ceiling fan found {HERE} and {HERE} is perfect for a bedroom with a more modern design. With three base finishes (dark bronze, bright nickel, & gloss white) and seven blade finishes, there are a ton of stylish combinations:

I think the bright nickel with mahogany blades would be gorgeous in a mid-century modern design. All fan combinations come in two size options (52″ or 62″) and not only can you choose to have a light or no light, but you can select a standard LED or high output LED.
10. Sonet Satin Brass Ceiling Fan
This Sonet Satin Brass Ceiling Fan found {HERE} isn’t cheap but she sure is pretty and wins the award for the most glamorous fan on the list with a satin brass base and acrylic blades:

It also has an LED light that blends into the rest of the design seamlessly. I bought it for our guest bedroom and love it:

Sources: Queen beadboard bed (weathered white) | 12″ Memory foam queen mattress (no boxspring needed) | Blue & white quilted shams (similar) | Navy embroidered lumbar pillow cover ( with {this} pillow insert) | Navy border duvet cover | White quilt | Backless bench at foot of bed | Nightstand (no longer available) | Lamp (similar) | Round mirror
Also check out {this fan} for a similar look.

So what do you think – do you have a favorite fan?

I absolutely LOVE ceiling fans but really don’t care for them to be decorative. We just got a WAC fan from Home Depot, it’s attractively bland, just like I like them. But it’s SILENT!!! It’s DC instead of AC/DC or something along those lines. And it was only $243. Nothing I wanted was available and now I am so happy with it.

Love your posts Kris
Great detail as always!!!
We have never had a ceiling fan and have always wondered —
Can it be used in a bedroom converted to an office ?!?!—- without all the papers blowing off the desk????
We are in a constant battle with the A/C thermostat in the summer.
Main floor too cold while that upstairs office is an oven !!!
Your input would be much appreciated
Thanks

Thank you for your sweet words! I think it would be fine as long as it wasn’t on the highest setting (definitely make sure whatever you buy has different speed settings but they almost all do)!

Thanks for sharing Kris! Do you recall if the Sonet Satin Brass Ceiling Fan came with a down rod?
Kris Jarrett says
I know it came with the one shown in my pic (we didn’t buy that downrod separately) but can’t recall whether or not there were other size options in the box too.

Ceiling fans are the least favorite fixtures in my home! I prefer the oscillating tower fans in the master bedroom and living room. I’ll leave the guest bedroom’s ceiling fan in place. My plan is to replace the master bedroom and living room ceiling fans with pretty ceiling light fixtures (along with bathroom vanity fixtures I purchase last summer) as soon as my project makes it to the top of my handyman’s list. I always enjoy your posts. Your research is so extensive and helpful!
Kris Jarrett says
I prefer other fixtures too and am doing the same in our bedroom – replacing the fan with a chandelier and putting a fan on my husband’s side of the bed in the summer to make him happy 🙂

I’m looking for a modern fan with retractable blades for a glam look. Any ideas?
Maile Gershwin says
Kris, I look forward to your emails and can’t tell you how much I have learned from you over the years. I love the guest room!
After living with your guest bedroom ceiling fan for a while, would you recommend it? Is it noisy? I have it in my cart at Horchow (the only place I could find it), but there are no dimensions listed on their site, other than the 52″ for the blades. I’m interested in the total height of the fan from ceiling to bottom of the light.
Thank you!

Hi Kris, Greetings from Spain.
We’re looking for a bedroom ceiling fan with dimmable LED lights that can be dimmed using a normal wall switch (turnable or press and hold). Also, the fan speed should be adjustable using a standard wall switch.
In addition, it would be great if the fan light and speed could be remotely controlled using Zigbee 3.0 protocol.
