Last week I went to Arhaus to look at some upholstery fabrics my sister was deciding between for a new sectional. On my way through the store, I spotted these beautiful prints:
They have been discontinued so they were a great price for large pieces of art but with our upcoming move it was certainly not a very reasonable time to be buying two large art prints so I just looked longingly at them and moved on to checking out the fabrics. A week later I was in the Arhaus shopping center and these prints were still on my mind so I ducked into Arhaus to see if they were still there and to get a closer look at them. I noticed something familiar about the sketched scenes and when I pulled out the tags on the prints, I realized why – they are sketches of the Grand Place in Brussels, Belgium. Years ago (shortly after college, before we were married), my husband was sent on a one-year job assignment to Brussels. Realizing that this was the opportunity of a lifetime, I packed up my stuff (and my dog who went with me!) and went to stay with him in Brussels for three months. Every weekend, we traveled somewhere in Europe and had the most amazing experience. Looking at these beautiful Grand Place prints brought back all of those great memories. Still, as much as I now wanted the prints, I didn’t get them because it wasn’t a smart purchase with all of our upcoming moving expenses. When I talked to my husband later that day, I mentioned the Grand Place prints and he suggested that they could be early Mother’s Day gifts (!!). How long do you think it took me to get back to Arhaus?!
I’m not bothering to hang the prints since we’re starting to take everything off the walls to pack up but I look forward to finding a special place for them in our new house. What a perfect gift! I know some ladies love to receive flowers and jewelry for Mother’s Day and to have a nice dinner out at an expensive restaurant. While those things are all great, receiving something meaningful for my home along with a few homemade cards, a relaxing day with my family, and some burgers or steaks on the grill are the recipe for my perfect Mother’s Day. How about you?
