I love this time of year for so many reasons including that our home is always at its coziest! Our family room is where we hang out the most so that’s where I always start my Christmas decorating. I’m excited to share it all with you – come on in and I’ll show you around! I’ll share most sources as we go but have included a full Source List at the end of the post for anything I might have missed! You might remember that in past years, we put our Christmas tree between the bookcases behind the sectional but this year I changed things up and put it at the front of the room:
I’m loving the new location because we get to see and enjoy our tree the whole time we’re in the room instead of having our backs to it (our tree is {this prelit tree} in the 6.5′ height). I decorated our tree with two types of ribbon – a wide gray velvet ribbon and several more narrow sheer ribbons. Instead of using one long roll, I cut the ribbon into pieces, making 1-3 ribbon loops with each piece, tucking the ends into the tree. I added faux berry and pearl sprigs and interspersed some faux flowers, all from Michaels – I found them in bundles in the faux botanical section and cut them apart with wire snips which is actually a lot less expensive than buying individual Christmas tree picks or sprays. If you want to see the step by step of how I decorate my Christmas trees, check out {this post}.
It’s hard to see with all of the presents piled up in front of it but I used a silver Christmas tree collar instead of a skirt – I love the look and it works especially well in smaller spaces like mine where you don’t have room to spread out a large skirt. I found mine at HomeGoods a few years back but {this tree collar} is almost identical. I’m a wrap-as-you-go kind of girl so I’ve already got a bunch of presents wrapped and waiting under the tree:
I have two of {these white floor poufs} to our living room which have been great for sitting on while puzzling or playing games on our coffee table. And they’re really lightweight so they’re easy to move around to use as ottomans too!
I stuck with textured neutrals for my pillows in this room too! Christmas decorations are up for such a short amount of time that I went with cozy pillows that I can use all winter long. I chose {these gorgeous textured gray pillow covers} and {these canvas fawn pillow covers with tasseled ends} – love them both so much! And I added {these cream tasseled pillow covers} that I already had into the mix!
I did something kind of fun and different with my Christmas cards in our family room this year too! I took a decorative ladder, wove a fresh garland and battery operated fairy lights through it, and then used ribbon to attach cards along with some mini lanterns:
I actually already had the ladder down in storage in our basement (it went with the bookcase in our old house) but {this blanket ladder} is super similar. The bare wall in front of our family room bookcase ended up being the perfect spot for it:
Battery operated fairy lights are the best because they allow you to light up anything, anywhere! Be sure to get ones that have a built-in timer or a remote like {these} so you don’t have to turn them on and off with the battery pack every day. The cute little lanterns tied onto the garland are finds from years ago at the Ballard Outlet so they’re no longer available but {these mini lanterns} would give you the same look.
I taped some of the cards onto the ladder while others I tied to the garland with some gray plaid ribbon and {this ⅝″ velvet ribbon in antique}. I’ve only gotten a few Christmas cards so far this year so I pulled out a few I had saved from years past to get things started:

Since we have a faux Christmas tree, I’m loving having the fresh garland in the room for that fresh greenery smell that I associate with Christmas! With the twinkling lights, smell of greenery, cozy pillows, and decorated tree, my family’s loving the cozy holiday vibe of our family room. Even Hope seems to want to hang out here more – this is her favorite spot on {our super cozy faux fur throw}:
Ready to head upstairs and see our other Christmas tree?! This year I put a second tree upstairs on the landing where my girls hang out and it turned out to be a great spot for it! I’ve always been kind of torn between flocked and “naked” Christmas trees and when I found this happy medium “frosted” tree, I was all in (it’s {this 7.5′ frosted fraser fir} with incandescent lights:

I decorated it with two wide silver ribbons including a silver basketweave ribbon (which is no longer available) and a platinum stretch net ribbon along with narrower gold ribbon in several different designs from {this ribbon 6-pack}:
I used Balsam Hill’s midnight frost ornaments that include a good variety of shapes and sizes in frosted white and three shades of blue and a set of {these gorgeous winter wishes frosted ornaments}. I also layered in some white berry sprigs and faux white poinsettias that I found at Michaels. I interspersed mini faux white poinsettias throughout the tree and added some larger ones spiraling up to the top:
I went with a tree collar on this tree too, using {this woven beauty}:
I plugged both of my trees into {these wireless dimmers} that are part of my Caséta smart lighting system. I can control them remotely with my phone which is pretty awesome – with a quick check of my phone, I can make sure all of the tree lights are off before going to bed!
I’ve got more rooms to share but figured that was enough picture overload for one day! I’ll be sharing our front porch, kitchen, living room, and more in the days to come!
