Movie Themed Birthday Party

I threw my daughter a movie themed birthday party and it turned out to be one of the best parties she ever had! I’m sharing all of the details, including what we did at the party and the types of treats and party favors we had for inspiration in hosting your own movie themed birthday party.

There are so many fun movie-themed invitations out there – you can either order personalized invites that get shipped to your house or if you’re in a time crunch like I was, many shops have printable version that are emailed to you within a day or two of ordering so you can print them out at home. The exact invites that I used are no longer available but these are a few of my current favorites (click image to shop):

Some other favorite movie-themed party supplies are theses that I used for the party are these water bottle wraps, printable cupcake toppers, sugar cookies, banner, and straws (click image to shop):

For a party activity, we created a homemade version of a photo booth. I picked up a lightweight laser cut frame at Michael’s

painted it black with some craft paint and hung it with ribbon on a rolling clothes rack:

As party favors, the girls were each given a disposable camera and some props (hats, lips, masks, etc.) that I glue gunned to wood dowels. Let the photo session begin! They had fun taking turns posing for pictures and being the photographer – it ended up working best to turn the frame horizontally so that they could more easily pose with their buddies!

The “movie theater” was our family room and my youngest daughter and her friend decided to dress up as security guards, ensuring that our party starlets made it into the theater without getting bombarded by the paparazzi!

The security guards checked to make sure that each of our stars had their ticket and only then were they allowed past the red velvet rope divider (crepe paper and sparkly gold scrapbook paper cut in the shape of an end cap and hook) into the theater.

Before the movie, they stopped at the concession stand to grab some popcorn and candy:

The popcorn is in red and white containers that can be found {here} and the candy is in yellow & white boxes (available {here}) and red & white favor boxes (available {here}) that I cut the top few inches off of to make them shorter and create a tiered effect:

After the movie, the plan was to have marshmallow “popcorn” cupcakes but the girls had eaten so much popcorn and candy that they were full so they were each sent home with one instead. (For the full post on how to make the popcorn cupcakes, click {here}).

(These are so cute! The top of the boot opens to reveal a mirror and 3-piece mani/pedi kit.)

So I’ve got one party down and one to go – my daughters’ birthdays are three weeks apart so as soon as I’ve gotten one done, it’s time to start thinking about the next one. My youngest daughter would like her party to have a circus theme so I’ll have to see what I can come up with for that (any ideas??)! Have a great weekend everyone!
