Timeless Bathroom Fixtures: Every Selection for Our New Build!

Our new home won’t be completed for over a year so it seems crazy that I’m already making decisions on plumbing fixtures! But since all of the plumbing valves have to be installed before drywall goes up, these selections have to happen much earlier in the building process than you might expect.

When it came to selecting the faucets, shower fixtures, toilets, and tub for our new home, choosing timeless bathroom fixtures was one of my biggest priorities. Since we anticipate this being our forever home, I wanted every selection to feel just as timeless 20 years from now as it does today.

After months of showroom visits, online searching, and Pinterest pinning, I’ve finally made (almost!) all of our selections. Today I’m sharing every pick in the hopes that it’ll be helpful for any of you who have a bathroom renovation or new home build in your future (plus I’d love your input on a few things I’m still undecided on)! (post includes commissionable links; for more information, see my full disclosure statement {HERE})

Good to know: Don’t rule out a fixture you love based on the price of one finish. Bathroom fixture pricing can vary significantly by finish, so while polished nickel is often one of the most expensive options, the same fixture in chrome may be much more budget-friendly.

Let’s kick things off with the upstairs bathroom #1 that’s off of my youngest daughter’s bedroom:

Bath #1: Brushed Gold Bathroom Fixtures

This bathroom has a 60″ vanity that we’re creating with semi-custom cabinetry and a backsplash with pretty curves that add a unique design element. The plumbing fixtures will be a beautiful brushed gold color and include {this arched faucet} with cross handles as well as cross handled shower valve trim. It’s the perfect mix of classic and contemporary with clean, timeless lines:

Sources: Custom vanity | Cabinet knobs (aged brass) | Arched faucet | Hand towel bar | TP holder | Shower head | Shower valve trim | Handheld wand

You might question whether brushed brass is timeless, but I truly think it is. I guess we can reconvene on that in ten years and see how it has played out!

Now on to our second upstairs bathroom that’s off of my oldest daughter’s bedroom…

Bath #2: Polished Nickel Bathroom Fixtures

My oldest daughter prefers silver to gold so it was an easy decision to go with polished nickel bathroom fixtures including {this faucet} and the coordinating shower pieces. It’s so much prettier in person than it looks online! With the prettiest coining (ribbed) detail around the faucet tip, it’s a modern take on a traditional design that fits well with the vibe of our home.

Pfister is coming out with several coordinating bath accessories, including a towel hook and hand towel holder, but I might go with simpler options since they seem a bit “heavy”.

This bathroom will have a combination shower/bathtub and after seeing {this bathtub} at a friend’s recently built home, it was an easy choice for the space. I’m going to use a prebuilt vanity for this bathroom which is usually a pretty good cost savings versus custom cabinetry + custom countertop + sink. {This vanity} is a front-runner (I’d love to know if any of you have seen it in person!) but I’m still looking because I’d love to find something more budget-friendly. If I stick with this vanity, I’d need to bring a few gold accents into the room to tie in the gold vanity hardware.

Now on to the primary/master bathroom:

    Primary Bathroom Fixtures

I’ve had by far the hardest time selecting fixtures for our own bathroom. Mostly because our space includes a freestanding tub filler and my favorite tub fillers didn’t have coordinating faucets and shower components I loved and vice versa. One thing I’m sure about is that I LOVE the design of {this faucet}:

    Newport Brass Pardees faucet

It’s not cheap but if I’m ever going to splurge it’s going to be in the primary bathroom of our forever home! It comes in several finish options and I’m still a bit undecided on the best one but Satin Bronze, a dark brushed gold, is the leading contender. I’ve seen the Satin Bronze finish in person and love it (it looks SO much nicer than in the online pics), but I’d love to hear from anyone who has chosen it for Newport Brass fixtures – does it read more bronze/brown in your space, or does it lean more toward a warm dark gold?

Sources: Newport Brass Pardees fixtures (satin bronze) | Tub filler | Smart toilet | Bathtub TBD | Custom white oak vanity

We’ll have his and hers custom white oak vanities in the space with plans for decorative fluting along the top that will tie in the faucet design (totally by coincidence – I added the fluting before finding the faucets!). For our bathtub, I love the shape of {this acrylic bathtub} and it gets great reviews but I’d ideally like a material that holds heat a little better so I’m on the hunt for one that’s the perfect combo of design & construction.

Jeff’s one non-negotiable for our primary bath was bidet functionality-apparently years of international business travel and bidet-equipped hotel bathrooms will do that (I didn’t ask for details 😂)! My only problem? Most bidet toilets have a bulky, space-age look that’s a total bathroom vibe killer. We got deep into researching options we could both agree on and had almost reached an impasse when {this brand new smart toilet} popped up. It has all of the features Jeff wanted with a design I actually love. It’s way more than I ever expected to spend on a toilet, but as soon as he agreed that it wouldn’t come out of my plumbing budget, it was a go!

Moving on to our guest bathroom…

Guest Bath: Polished Nickel vs Brush Brass Bathroom Fixtures

Our guest/poolhouse bathroom is where I plan to have a bit more fun playing with color in the vanity, tile, and possibly wall color. I love the look of {this fluted vanity} that comes in several color options including a beautiful light sage. I need to pick out my tile before committing, but it’s definitely my lead contender!

I love the Kohler Castia line and am planning to use {this faucet}, {this shower trim kit}, and a few of their bath accessories in our guest bathroom. I haven’t made a final decision between the polished nickel and brushed brass finish options but am leaning toward the polished nickel:

Powder Room: Brushed Brass Bathroom Fixtures

Last but certainly not least, our powder room is going to pack a lot of personality into a small space with a custom vanity, decorative backsplash, and one of my favorite fixtures. I’m using the Kohler Components line that allows you to mix and match the faucet spout and handles for endless combinations. My favorite combinations are {this faucet spout} with {these chunky lever handles} or the same handles with {this faucet spout} for a wall-mounted installation.

If you love a more coastal vibe, check out the shiplap powder room in our current home.

I feel like I’m on a good path to giving each bathroom its own personality while still feeling connected to the overall aesthetic of our home. I’ll be sharing updates as construction progresses, and I can’t wait to show you how all of these selections come together once the rooms start taking shape.

In the meantime, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Drop your questions or suggestions in the comments below, especially if you’ve seen any of these fixtures in person or have strong feelings about my remaining decisions. You guys always have the best input!

I applaud you for being able to narrow down your choices. My main gripe with bathroom fixtures is when the spigot does not overhang the sink sufficiently to easily get your hands under the water without splashing water all over the counter. Looks like you nailed that one. As we age, arthritis in our hands can make turning faucets on and off more difficult. The levers that you chose are easier than the cross hatch variety for older hands. Good thing you have a mix of types.

When I hear this, I cringe, but to see it in writing, it should be corrected. “that’s exactly where we’re at!. Should be “that’s exactly where we are!”. You can certainly delete this. I wanted to find a way to contact you privately, but no success.. I know I am a grammar nerd, and saying ‘where we’re at’ is a very bad habit I see and hear everywhere. You are too pretty and a great blogger not to use the language correctly.
