It’s the midway point of the One Room Challenge which is when a little bit of panic about not getting finished always starts to set in (full-on panic is a week 4 thing 🙂 ). But I got this! (I think…) Here’s the current state of affairs of our bonus room:
I know, it’s definitely not looking like it’s anywhere near to being finished but it’s getting there! Here’s what I knocked out since last week – for one, I decided on, ordered, and received my new mattress for the daybed. Wooo hoo! Thanks so much to all of you who gave me mattress input and recommendations both here and on Instagram!
(post includes some affiliate links – full disclosure statement available {here})
I ended up choosing {this foam mattress} that several people had recommended – based on those of you who recommended it and the online reviews, it seemed like the inexpensive-but-super-comfortable winner! It’s available in four different heights and I went with the 8″ version. I’ve done nothing with it except get it out of the box and onto the daybed so I don’t have any thoughts yet on if it’s a keeper but I’ll let you know whether we like it or not a few weeks down the road once we’ve had a chance to test it out.
I’m sure you guys also noticed that I started working on the gallery wall that I’m going to put above the daybed!
My plan is to do a mix of wood and metal frames so I pulled out all of the frames from my hoard stash that I thought might work and started playing around with them. This isn’t the final arrangement but messing around with what I already had helped me figure out what frame sizes and finishes I need to finish the job. Yesterday I got them all ordered – {these wood frames} and {these brass frames} are some of my favorites! All of the framed art is going to be pieces that my daughters created so I already know that this little gallery wall is going to be one I love. Can I just tell you how much I enjoyed going through their old grade school boxes of art and school papers yesterday?! Sooo many gems in there! I also have some more recent art pieces they created that are going to be included in the wall too. Totally having fun with it!
A bunch of other final decisions were made this past week too. I had debated whether I was going to paint or wallpaper the wall space above the beadboard and I decided to go with wallpaper! {This gorgeous blue and white wallpaper} on the right is the one I’m going to use in this main space and then {this blue and white feather wallpaper} is what I’ll use on the accent wall in the adjoining kids’ craft room. They work perfectly with {the blue floral quilt} and {blue striped tassel pillows} c/o Vera Bradley that are going on the daybed. So excited to see what both wallpapers will look like on the wall!
And just yesterday, my pom pom throw arrived – this sucker is not cheap but it is literally the softest blanket ever in the history of blankets (it’s no longer available but {this cozy pom pom throw} is similar. If it wasn’t so pricey I’d buy another one since I already know my girls will be battling for it but they’re just going to have to cozy up close together because we’re one and done on this baby!
Oh and remember the ugly builders-grade dome light in this room?
I realized that the pendant I originally had in mind to replace it would hang lower than I wanted so I went on the hunt again and ended up choosing something that surprised even me! I’m putting in {this brass sputnik light fixture} c/o Lucent Light Shop:
Totally funky and modern and so not me, right?! But for some reason I absolutely love it – it just feels right! And my daughters totally LOVE it which is the most important thing. We can’t wait for it to get here!
So my plan for week 4 is to finish prepping my walls for the wallpaper, get shades ordered for my windows (I know, I need to get that done ASAP!), finalize my gallery wall arrangement and art for each frame, and…. a zillion other things. I’d better get to it! Thanks as always for stopping by!! Be sure to check out the progress that the other bloggers trudging through the One Room Challenge are making too – you can find links to the 20 featured designers {here} and the guest participants {here}. Enjoy!
XOXO,
the tassels are such a great design detail and those wallpaper samples. .. I can’t wait to see both of them up your walls! I am also hunting down frames as well for artwork … so much to do in 6 short weeks from start to finish!
Yes, SO much to get done! Good luck with your frame hunting!!
I love the blues and whites Kris. That fixture is so fun and funky too. Your girls are so lucky!
Thanks Jen – they’re so excited about it!
Beautiful!! Love how you’re using kids artwork in such a sophisticated way – and of course those blue striped pillows!!!! YUM!! XO, Rahel
Thank you so much!
I love all of your choices thus far Kris, but have to say that precious artwork has stolen the show. Makes me want to go through my girls old art and pull out a few pieces to frame.
Thanks Lauren – I’ve been wanting to do something with their art for so long! Glad I’m finally getting to it!
The wallpaper is gorgeous Kris! Can’t wait to see it in your space!
Thanks Lisa! I think it will make a big difference!
Those wallpaper samples make me giddy! LOVE.
Thanks Emily – me too! 🙂
The daybed is awesome, and I love where the gallery wall is headed!
Thanks Nicki!!
I love those wallpaper samples! And adding those tasseled pillows will be the extra icing on the cake!
Thanks Tana! I can’t wait to get that wallpaper up on the wall!
Kris,
I know I’ll love the blue and white wallpaper and bed linens. On the ceiling lamp, I was at lunch at a designer friend’s house yesterday. Her personal style at home is typically French country. She had a new foyer light fixture that was totally modern and it was wonderful! She told me she likes to throw in a modern touch here and there and she’s right (your girls are right too), this will look fabulous!
xo,
Karen
Karen I love hearing that! Sometimes it’s fun to go a bit outside of your style comfort zone 🙂 Happy weekend!
Where’s your daybed from??
Hi Mindi,

Kris, I am loving the direction of your room! That gallery wall is brilliant and is going to be so special. So excited to see how your wallpaper comes together with that beautiful bedding! And your Sputnik- totally agree, it just feels right. So excited to see the end result!
Thank you Kelley!!
Kris!! Totally coming along! Look at you picking a Sputnik light! Rock on, sister!
Ha! I can see that beauty being right up your alley Haneen!!
Can’ t wait to see the fabulous wall paper go up Kris! Love the colors in your art mix too!
Thank you Vel!!!
The pom pom Throw is just like the ones Our TJMaxx had in the spring. Very very soft. I bought three of them, white, blush, and lavender. They were $16.99 each. If you would like another one, or five for the price you paid ,keep an eye out at TJ’s.
Thanks for the tip Shelly!! Great find!!
The wallpaper is gorgeous .
Hello,
I’ve been looking into order this mattress for my daughter. I’ve read the reviews on Amazon and saw a few that had issues with mold. Have you had any issues? Is it holding its shape well?
Thanks!
