I love summer so much that I’ve kinda been a big baby about transitioning to fall but once my girls went back to school and I had to turn on my heat for a day or two last week (yes, already!) I decided it was finally time to get my fall decorating game on! Today I’m welcoming you into our New England home, sharing the little fall touches that I’ve added to make our home warm and welcoming for the season. Hope’s waiting for you at the front door, ready to tour you around “her” home (because let’s face it, this 13 pound furry girl rules the roost!)…
If you’re new here and stopping by after having toured Randi’s beautiful home at Randi Garrett Design welcome (I can never get enough of Randi’s home – so gorgeous)! And for my “regulars”, you know I always love having you here and appreciate your visits! As a super quick intro for those of you who are new to my blog, we live in a 60+ year old home in Connecticut that was a bit of a dated disaster when we moved in four years ago but we’re slowly transforming it into a home that my family of four adores. I love decorating with clean lines and a casually elegant feel but most importantly I love having a warm, welcoming, comfy home for our friends and family to gather together in.
I’m always sharing little bits of my home but it’s fun to tour a bunch of rooms at once like we’re doing today – thanks so much to Tamara of Citrine Living and Bree of ZDesign at Home for putting this Fresh Ideas for Fall Tour together – I’ll be sharing links to their beautiful homes and several others that I know you’ll love visiting at the end of today’s post. But for now, let’s get going with my tour… (post includes some affiliate links – see my full disclosure {here})
— full source list for my home included at the end of this post! —
We’re going to start outside because I’m sooo excited about a brand new addition to our home – we used to have these teeny, tiny wimpy sconces outside our front door that were literally barely hanging on. I’ve been looking for the longest time for something to replace them with (I wanted lighting that had a classic lantern shape but was also a little different) and when I found {these new lantern sconces} (mine are the 23″ ones) I was so excited – they are exactly what I had in mind! I’ll have to share an Instagram Story of what they look like at night – the light is within the “candle” so they look like glowing candles – love!

As for my outdoor fall decor, winter comes fast in Connecticut so I don’t like to spend a ton of money on my outdoor planters. I ended up going with a trio of kale, cabbages, and mums (three for $15 at Stew Leonards for my CT readers!) in each planter. If you want some inexpensive and simple to put together fall planters, it’s a great combination:
I added {this fall wreath} to my front door – it’s simple, timeless, and so “me”! And I love that the colors and design make it a wreath that will transition beautifully into the holiday season!
I also brought down {my trio of lanterns} from the attic – I’ve used them from the fall through the winter season for the last three years and was excited to get them out again. If you don’t like spending a lot on seasonal decorating, lanterns are a great buy because you can change up their look for the holidays/seasons with simple changes of ribbons or what you place inside of them (I loved filling them with ornaments for the holidays last year!).
Ready to move on inside?! We’ll make a quick stop at our kitchen coffee station first to grab you a drink:

Now that we can sip and walk, let’s head to the family room – Hope got sick of waiting for us so she went ahead and got all snuggled in and comfy:

My jumping off point for decorating our family room for fall was the patterned pillows on the ends of the sectional – I spotted them at HomeGoods and while I’ve never decorated with plum shades before, as soon as I saw them I was inspired! I paired them with {these cream tassel pillows} that I already had and then at the corner of the sectional I used {this chunky 24″ fringed pillow} I also had in my stash plus two new washed velvet pillows including {this 20″ square velvet pillow} in a plum color and {this velvet lumbar pillow} in Orchid:
I also brought out {my cozy ruched faux fur throw} from last year – it’s Hope’s favorite (and mine too!). To add a little pop of fall color to our coffee table, I added this gorgeous bouquet in a pumpkin “vase”:
Can you believe that the flowers are made of paper? Yes, paper! I recently stumbled upon The Lovely Ave’s Instagram feed and became obsessed with the floral bouquets that she creates – so amazing! She sent me {this pumpkin centerpiece} for my fall home – thanks so much Margie!
The other fall touches in our family room are super simple including a few pumpkins on our built-in bookcases:
and a couple of {these faux plum bundles} on our media console:

Let’s move on to a few other rooms! This year we were so lucky to have amazing hydrangea blooms in the prettiest colors and I’ve totally been taking advantage of that this fall! Just a a week or two ago they were vibrantly purple like the ones in this bouquet in our bedroom:

but they’ve since changed color to the most gorgeous subdued fall tones! I’m loving the dose of fall they’ve added to our kitchen nestled in my herb crates,
to our bedroom nightstands, our bathrooms,

and… well, pretty much any bare surface of our home! I hope that you all enjoyed getting a chance to take a peek around! As I show you out, we’ll tiptoe past the living room so we don’t wake up these two cuddling cuties nestled in our window seat – a favorite spot to look out on the leaves that are starting to change (or to take a nap of course!):
I just finished decorating the fireplace in this room using mostly HomeGoods scores (they have soooo many great things for fall!). I found the lanterns and cute squirrels with gold acorns there along with the faux greenery:
I tried to list most of my home sources as we went along but also included a complete source list below which hopefully covers anything I missed! If you want to see more pictures of any of the rooms that I shared or check out the other rooms in our house you can do that {here}. And if you’d like to follow along in the future you can find me on Instagram {here} or sign up to be notified by email of new posts on Driven by Decor {here}.
Now it’s time to move on to the next home on the tour – you’ll be visiting Jennifer of Decor Gold who has impeccable taste and an incredibly beautiful home that I know you guys will love seeing. If it’s already this pretty as you walk in her home, you can only image how amazing the rest of it is, right?!:
Hop on over to Decor Gold {here}! Jen will direct you to the next house to visit after hers but here’s the complete list of everyone sharing their home today if you want to make sure you don’t miss anyone!

Beautiful job, Kris and you have such an adorable “helper” to welcome us to your tour! I have been eyeing up that same wreath for my door for this year. Last year I tried an indoor wreath on my front door and it ended up dripping oils all over the place so this year I will be more careful. Glad to see yours is an indoor/outdoor one! I love all the colors you used in your home too. Happy Fall!
Shelley
Thank you Shelley! That wreath sounds like a nightmare! I wasn’t sure about this wreath based on the online pic but love it so much more in person than I expected. And I like the size of it – I felt like my wreath last fall was a little small for my door. Thanks for stopping by! XOXO
Gorgeous. Everything looks so beautiful. I love the soft pink colors and mixed with the gray, so beautiful.
Thank you so much Marty! So sweet of you to stop by!
Kris, such an amazing tour my friend! Thank you so much for being on the tour and sharing all of your great ideas and inspiration with us!! I’m really loving the pops of plum everywhere…such a perfect choice this year!!! 🙂 xoxo
Bree, thank YOU for organizing!! I always love touring with you girls!
Kris,
Autumn is my favorite season—and I approve of your fall touches! 🙂 I guess, because we live in Southern California, I dream of a crisp mornings and cooler days. Crisp for my neck of the woods is temps in the high fifties. Your home is inviting and lovely year round, but I especially love the touches you’ve added for the season.
xo,
Karen
Thank you Karen! I like the kinda crisp you get a whole lot better than what we get here – ha!
Thanks for sharing you beautiful. It’s stunning! Nothing is better than Home Tours!
Thank you so much! Home tours are my favorite too!
Love the new porch lights – especially because there is no glass to keep clean! Do they give enough light for a walkway or are they better for just a beautiful glow?
Yes! The no-glass was a big pro for me too. And they will be super simple to change the lightbulb on – my old ones were a huge pain in the neck! They’re kind of somewhere in between being bright and dim – they illuminate the whole front porch area but not the entire walkway leading up to it.
Kris your home is so beautiful! I love it styled for fall, especially your front porch! Stunning my friend! Wishing you and your family a beautiful Fall! xo
Thank you Randi! I LOVED your tour – you are a super tough cookie to follow! XOXO
Kris, I LOVE the plum colors and the faux plums too! And your new lights are perfection! You are so lucky to have hydrangeas that turn such amazing colors – they compliment your color palette perfectly and it seems like you are a pro at using these colors in your gorgeous home! Your classic, elegant style always gets my inspired! Thank you for touring with us, I always love to tour together!! xo
Thank you so much Tam! I SOOO appreciate you putting this tour together – I know how much work it is!
I always love your home, Kris! The plum in the family room is stunning! Totally thinking I need to add some in somewhere in my house. Happy Fall!
Thank you so much Brenna! I’ve never done much with plum before but now I’m kinda hooked! 🙂
Always enjoy a tour of your beautiful home Kris.
Thank you so much Lauren! Happy fall!
Beautiful fall decor! I never thought of adding the color plum to my fall decor. It looks amazing! Your new exterior lights are gorgeous! Thank you for all the inspiring ideas and sharing your home. Happy Fall!
You are so sweet! Thank you and happy fall to you too! 😉
Kris, I love everything! Your touches of plum are perfect! Love the new pillows! Hope is always a treat to see! 🙂 Can’t wait to see you in a few DAYS! Wahoo!
Thanks Haneen! It was so fun to hang out with you this week! Let’s do it again next week, ok?! 🙂
Kris, I am so in love with the colors you chose this year- those plums and lavenders are incredible! And those paper flowers! Such a good move too on those outdoor sconces; they are PERFECT! You never disappoint, Kris, and I can’t wait to see you!
Thanks Kelley! I appreciate the love and SO enjoyed hanging out with you this week even though our time was way too short!!
I think Hope is your BEST seasonless home accessory! Also, love the new floral arrangement and your round mirror. Beautiful home, Kris!
Mary Ann
Well I have the agree with that – she seems to just fit right in for every season! 🙂
Gorgeous, as always!
Can I bother you for a measurement? I have a bay window in my living room that I’d love to put a cushion on, like you have done. What is the height from your floor to the wooden seat? My sister tells me it’s too tall for a cushion. Just wondered about your measurement.
Thanks so much!
Hi Beth! Sure, my window seat is a little under 21″ up from the floor (that doesn’t include the cushion height). Hope that helps!
Love all the plummy fall colors you used Kris – so gorgeous and so classic with your home and decor. And I got the same wreath! Aren’t the colors perfect?!
Happy Fall!
Sheila
xo
Thanks Sheila! Don’t you love that wreath?! And it’s even prettier in “real life” than it is in the photos!
