Our Kitchen Remodel Reveal!

Our kitchen remodel reveal is finally here! We wrapped up our renovation at the end of last year but were waiting on a few backordered items like our counter stools before calling it complete. I’ve packed this post full of photos and details on everything we put into it, from cabinets to lighting, countertops, floating shelves, appliances, and more.

Let’s jump on in, starting with a look back at our kitchen from when we first moved in… (post includes commissionable links; for more information, see my disclosure statement {here})

Our Kitchen Before

We bought our house because it had great bones and was meticulously cared for by the previous owners, but… nothing had been updated since it was built in the ’90s.

Our kitchen was on its last legs. The laminate countertops had come unglued and bubbled up in spots, the dishwasher had died, the oven only worked when it felt like it, and the cabinets were literally falling apart. One day I opened a drawer, and this happened (a not so subtle sign to kick our reno into gear!):

Now let’s break it all down from our cabinets and hardware to our new lighting, floating shelves, accessories, and more …

Kitchen Cabinets

We went with a middle-of-the-road cabinet line for our remodel, using semi-custom framed cabinets from Wellborn in two different colors:

Our perimeter cabinets are Glacier White:

and our island and coffee bar cabinets are Gray Mist:

Gray Mist is definitely a bit of a chameleon color! Overall, I’d describe it as a warm beigey gray, but it definitely looks like a straight-up light gray in some lighting and beige in others. I chose the Galena Square cabinet drawer and door style, which is a shaker design but with the addition of a narrow strip of molding on the inside edge.

I loved all of the drawers we had in the kitchen of our previous home, so I packed our island and coffee bar full of them:

We also added several pull-outs, including this double trash can pull-out in our island, similar to {this Rev-A-Shelf option},

and this paper towel pull-out by our sink that’s similar to {this Rev-A-Shelf version}:

I love that there’s storage space for extra rolls and that it has a holder in the back where I keep my kitchen cleaning spray:

I also have pull-outs flanking our range:

including a utensil pull-out on the right similar to {this one} and a pull-out for spices on the left similar to {this Rev-A-Shelf version}:

I used {these 8 oz spice bottles} with {these spice labels} that were a perfect fit and make my organization-loving heart happy! I’ll be sharing more pics of these and all of the other organizational features I added to our cabinets and drawers in a future post.

And lastly, we added a 30″ floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinet to replace the pantry closet we demoed:

Our old pantry was super shallow, so having this 24″ deep pantry with pullout shelves has been a game-changer!

Cabinet Hardware

If our cabinet hardware looks familiar, it’s because I used the same exact pulls in the kitchen of our previous home. They’re {these Amerock pulls} in the golden champagne finish (they’re available in several other finishes too!). I love their updated yet classic vibe and that they come in a variety of size options. I paired them with {these mushroom knobs} in the 1.3″ size:

Floating Shelves

I love the personality that styled open shelves add to a kitchen. So while I have upper cabinets on one wall of our kitchen, on our range wall I chose to add {these 24″ wide x 10″ deep white oak floating shelves} on both sides of our range hood:

A few things on our shelves are just for looks (like my beloved vintage brass swan planter), but most are functional items that I frequently use. On the shelves to the left of our range, I have a recipe box filled with handwritten recipes from Jeff’s mom, my brass swan planter, our most-used pasta bowls, salt and pepper grinders, and utensils I can easily grab while cooking:

The other set of floating shelves holds my most-used serving tray and pair of candlesticks along with a plant and framed artwork (a scene from Venice – one of our favorite places!):

Lighting

There were a lot of lighting choices to make for our kitchen, starting with the pendants over the kitchen island. I wanted to add a coastal vibe to our space so went with a pair of {these bell pendants} in the 21.5″ width:

If they look familiar, it’s because we had one of these pendants hanging over our kitchen table before we remodeled. After moving it to our island, we added {this matte white chandelier} with linen shades above our table:

Over our coffee bar, I added a pair of {these swing arm sconces}:

And over each pair of wood shelves flanking our range hood, I added {these matte white and brass sconces}:

Range Hood

Now let’s talk about our beautiful new range hood! As little as ten years ago, if you wanted a hood like this, you had to have it custom made at quite an expense. But since then, Hoodsly has entered the market with gorgeous hoods in a variety of styles.

I ordered {this 48″ bell-shaped hood} and customized the measurements and trim to get exactly what I wanted – I couldn’t love it more!

They even did a custom paint match to our white kitchen cabinets (which ended up matching beautifully)! I also ordered {this ventilation insert} through Hoodsly which made installation super easy since the hood came perfectly sized for it. They gave me the code DBD15 to share, which gives 15% off any of their hoods 🙌🏻

Backsplash Tile

I chose {this tile} in white for our kitchen backsplash and love that it’s neutral enough to work with anything but isn’t just a boring plain white. It has a lot of shade variation that makes it interesting:

We installed it without spacers for thin grout lines and used Mapei eggshell grout which is a warm white.

Kitchen Sink, Faucet, & Rug

We kept our sink in the same position in the corner of the kitchen by our two arched windows. I thought that having a wider faucet would help fill in what can be a visually awkward space behind a corner sink, so I replaced our standard faucet with {this bridge faucet} in the vibrant polished nickel finish:

I also ever-so-happily got rid of our divided sink (I know there are differing opinions, but I truly can’t stand divided sinks!) and replaced it with {this single basin fireclay sink} that was installed as an undermount:

Next to our sink, we have {these soap pumps} (one for hand soap and one for dish soap) on {this wood stand} (medium size):

For a rug in front of our sink, I initially couldn’t find a washable option I liked, so I went with {this 2 x 3 wool/jute rug}:

Then months later, I saw that Dash & Albert came out with a line of machine washable rugs in some of their most popular designs and decided to try {this rug}:

I haven’t yet had to throw it in the wash but will let you know how it washes up when I do! You can see their other machine washable rug options {here}. They’re less expensive than Ruggable machine washable rugs, but you do need to buy your own rug pad for underneath them (I bought {this Gorilla Grip rug pad} that’s made for use on hardwoods).

Countertops

I went back and forth between using quartz or quartzite for our countertops and ended up choosing Viatera’s Calacatta Suprema quartz. I had quartz in the kitchen of our previous home and loved that it never stained and required no sealing or other care. I searched for quartz with a combination of warm beige and cool gray veining, and Calacatta Suprema checked all the boxes:

So far so good with stains – I’ve yet to have anything that didn’t easily wipe right off of it.

Counter Stools

My counter stool saga is a long one, so I’ll spare you the details. The short version is that we already had two of {these woven stools} which looked great, but we needed two more, and they had unfortunately been discontinued a few years ago. Then, while waiting on some backordered stools to be delivered, my woven stools showed back up on Serena & Lily’s site, so I was able to snag the two additional stools I wanted:

These stools are pretty wide, so while the island is definitely long enough (9’4″) to fit all four of them, we’re only keeping three stools at the island when it’s just Jeff and me so we have extra space to get in and out of them. On the holidays when our girls are both home, we’ll add in the fourth.

If you like the look of these stools but are looking for something more budget-friendly, {these stools} are a similar option.

Appliances

Originally, I was planning to buy an induction range (see my post on induction vs. gas for all of the reasons why). But when I went to Ferguson to select my appliances, they had {this 48″ Monogram dual fuel range} on floor model sale for 50% off (a $7k savings!). I had an older model of this same range in our previous home and was really happy with it, so switching gears and going with this floor model range was a no-brainer!

I love the mixed metal look with the brass knobs:

Our other appliances include {this dishwasher}, {this refrigerator}, and {this microwave drawer}:

There are a lot of differing opinions about microwave drawers, but we had one in our previous home and actually prefer it to a traditional countertop microwave. Sharp makes all drawer microwaves so they all basically function the same but differ slightly in appearance. Monogram’s drawer microwave is an extra $600 (!) so I just stuck with the Sharp!

And on our kitchen island, I have {this vase} with a crackle finish. Even though I scored it on sale, it was more than I’d normally spend on a vase but was worth every penny – it’s so gorgeous in person! It’s filled with four of {these faux spirea branches}:

I’m still waiting on some backordered drapes to finish off our kitchen dining nook, but I’ll be sharing that space soon too!
