Hi all! As our week of “Welcome to Fall” home tours continues, I’m excited to be touring you around my own home today! Hopefully you already had a chance to visit all of the tours from yesterday – it all started at the home of our super sweet and organized tour leader Marty of A Stroll Thru Life and ended at the home of the stylish Claire Brody of Claire Brody Designs. If you missed out on the Labor Day house tour fun, be sure to visit these ladies’ beautiful homes!!
Ready to walk around with me? (post includes affiliate links – see my full disclosure statement {here}) We’ll start out in the dining room since that’s the first room that you see as you walk into our house (and my favorite one to decorate). I kept things pretty simple with a no-sew table runner made from a black and white buffalo check fabric, a centerpiece of eucalyptus and sunflowers, and a simple black burlap bow and spring of eucalyptus on each plate.
I’m hoping that the eucalyptus will still look decent once it dries so that I can leave my centerpiece in place for several weeks and just replace the sunflowers as needed. The bowl used for the centerpiece was a HomeGoods find that you might recognize from my summer house tour too – you can find it {here} (affiliate link).
The plates and teacups are part of the china set that we received as wedding gifts – obviously my simple taste and love for black and white hasn’t changed much in the last 15+ years!
Instead of small vases holding sunflowers at each place setting, I used the matching set of teacups. There aren’t any tea drinkers in our house so at least they’re getting used for something!
If we end up having a fall dinner party, I plan to use them as placecards by tying each person’s name on to the handle with a coordinating ribbon:
One last look before we move on down the hall…
In the foyer, our resident elephant is sporting a new fall necklace (made the same way as my DIY beaded tassel bracelets) and he’s sitting on top of some books that I covered with fabrics in my favorite fall-ish colors.
I picked up these kinda unusual flowers from Trader Joe’s because I thought the colors were so pretty but I’ve never seen them before – anyone know what they are??
Next we’ll pass through our home office where I’ve added a few fall touches to our gallery wall and sideboard.
I pinned a “Well Hello Beautiful Glorious Fall” sign (a free printable from Nest of Posies {here}) to the tree slice hanging as part of the gallery wall,
nestled a few pumpkins into burlap on a tray sitting on top of the sideboard,
and added a vase of hydrangeas from our backyard (I love the colors they turned this fall!):
Now on to the kitchen where…it’s a disaster area. Our island is getting a makeover and we’re adding bench seating to our eat-in area which will both be great when they’re done but right now things are an in-progress mess. I did manage to decorate one little corner of the kitchen that’s not under construction:
Our wire baker’s rack now has a plaid blanket that can be grabbed for chilly nights on the patio, a bundle of dried grasses/flowers in the wire basket up top,
and a new little addition of a bowl of nuts with this cute little copper nutcracker squirrel – my girls have gotten a kick out of using him!
And I’ve got more fall hydrangeas filling up one of our nesting herb crates:
In the other little corner of the kitchen that isn’t torn up, we have our coffee station (I’m dying for my first cup of pumpkin coffee of the season but so far no luck at the grocery store!). A few farmer’s market sunflowers brighten up the spot that bleary-eyed me visits first thing every morning:
Normally we’d be continuing on to check out the living room next but there’s a major project going on in there too (Are you thinking that it’s probably not the smartest idea to be doing so many projects at once? Umm..you’re totally right). If you follow me on Instagram, you know what my living room project’s all about:
Yep, the demo and retiling of our living room fireplace. We’re still in demo mode with sheets over all of the furniture so I’ll have to do a fall home tour raincheck and show the living room to you guys once the room is usable again. Hopefully that will be soon because I’m dying to see the final look of our new fireplace! Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by everyone!
Update: I’ve added a source list at the end of the post in case you’re wondering where anything shown in my pics came from!
The next stop on the tour is Our Southern Home where Christy will hand you a glass of sweet tea and tour you around her beautiful front porch – hop on over to her home tour {here}.
Foyer – Mirror: Amazon’s Howard Elliott Hawthorne Round Mirror | Lantern: Pottery Barn’s Park Hill Lantern | Elephant & Vase: HomeGoods

Hallo Kris
Those flowers are endemic to the Western Cape, South Africa. They are called proteas. The King Protea is also our national flower. I have them everywhere in my house.
Love your house!
Regards
Hannalie
Thank you so much for the info Hannalie! I can only imagine how beautiful bunches of them look all over your house – they are such stunning flowers – I’m so glad to have stumbled upon them!
Before I saw your comment I was about to say they looked like a Waratah flower, which is native to Australia, and is the state flower of New South Wales. I then looked it up and the Waratah is a type of Proteas flower! So its somewhere in that family 🙂
Kris, everything looks so beautiful! Buffalo plaid is a big favorite of mine and I love it on your table! Happy Fall!
Thanks so much Kim! I’m with you – buffalo plaid does no wrong!
Kris…everything is SO beautiful! I’m especially loving the table…black buffalo check and the yellow is stunning. Such a beautiful summer to fall transition! ~Sonya
Thanks so much Sonya – I really appreciate your sweet comment!
that tile! 🙂
love love love the dining room- it’s amazing!!! and i love the natural touches as well as the squirrel nutcracker. 🙂
Why does in not surprise me that you love that nutcracker?! The only thing better than brass animals are copper ones, right?! 🙂
Gorgeous Kris! I love how your gallery wall just pops against that stunning wall color (can you remind me what it is?). Everything is just super welcoming. I missed my chance on the pumpkin spice coffee creamer. They had it at the grocery store (in August), and I passed it up because it was “too early”. Haven’t seen it since!
Thanks Jenny! Our office wall color is Benjamin More Nightfall (a recommendation of Lisa’s actually!). I’m trying to figure out why the heck all of the stores have Halloween candy but no pumpkin stuff yet – I’m craving it!!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us!
I so appreciate you stopping by for my tour – have a good night Anne!
Kris,
Your dining room does not disappoint! Love the black and white with the sunflowers! Fun touring with you. Thanks for the sweet shout out!
Thanks Christy!
Gorgeous Your office gallery wall is one of my all time favorites, it is fabulous and you dining room is wonderful with the plaid. Great tour.
Thanks so so much for organizing the tour and your sweet comment – you’re the best!
SoLoooooo incredibly gorgeous!!!!! Your table looks amazing…..I love the place settings with rattan chargers and the ribbon!
~Des
Thanks so much Des! I lucked into those chargers at a thrift store last week and now use them all the time!!
Your fall themed dining room is perfection and I MUST have that copper nutcracker.
That nutcracker is so fun, right?! It’s from Anthropologie if you want one!
Kris your house looks so pretty for early fall! Your hydrangeas are gorgeous and add that perfect subtle fall color, I love them with your color palette too. Can’t wait to see your kitchen and fireplace projects!
Thank you Lisa! The kitchen and fireplace projects are like the slowest going projects ever! Maybe they’ll be done in time for Christmas at this point 🙂
Kris- This is so beautiful! I love the bright pops and bold buffalo check…always the way to my heart! xo
Thank you Mallory!!
Such a beautiful fall home tour! That tablescape is stunning!
Everything looks beautiful, Kris. LOVE your sunflower themed table setting, the herb crates in your kitchen and the touches you added to the office.
Thanks so much Mary! For some reason I’m sunflower obsessed lately – I think I might need to try planting some next year!
What a lovely home you have! I particularly like your black and white color choice and how the sunflowers really stand out. Just beautiful. Best, Silvana
Thanks so much Silvana! I really appreciate you stopping in for my tour!
Your house looks great, Kris! Hats off to you for showing it off and doing what you did considering you have multiple projects going on. 🙂 I MUST know where you got that squirrel! My father has a love/hate relationship with all the squirrels that invade his backyard and that squirrel would be the BEST Christmas gift ever!
That’s so funny Laurie! The squirrel is from Anthropologie believe it or not (and it’s not as pricey as you would expect coming from Anthro!).
Perfect early fall touches, Kris!! I love Protea, they have them every once in awhile at my Costco, but I haven’t noticed them yet. Your dining room is such a cheerful greeting, every time I’m at Ikea I debate about that buffalo check – so fun with the sunflowers! Good luck with your new projects, we’re covered in sheets over here to but not nearly as exciting! 🙂
Thanks Pam! Can’t wait to see your tour later in the week!
Beautiful tour, Kris. Love that centerpiece.
Thanks Kim!
I loved every bit of your tour! Such a pretty home! Your coffee station and plate wall have always been two of my favorites in blogland. 🙂
You’re the sweetest – thanks Lisa!
Hi Kris. Your home is beautiful and I love the black and white runner with the sunflowers. I won’t be showing our kitchen on the tour either. We are still painting cabinets and everything is a mess. Looking forward to seeing the changes you are making.
Hugs,
Sherry
Thanks Sherry! That sounds like a pretty big project you’ve got going on! Looking forward to your tour on Friday!
Your dining room is gorgeous, love the black and yellow accents! Can’t wait to see your fireplace, I know is gonna be a stunner!
Thanks Cristina! Right now my living room is just one big disaster – hopefully a great fireplace will emerge from the rubble!
Hi Kris, Your taste is very similar to mine. I would love to get more information the tile you gave us a sneak peak of for the fireplace. Please and thank you!
Sure Karen! The tile is from Walker Zanger – it’s the Sterling Row collection. There are several other similar tiles in the collection that are stunning as well!
Perfect! Thanks 😀
Your home looks great Kris. Can’t wait to see your fireplace!
Thanks Stacey!
Kris,
Oh, I absolutely adore black and white tablescapes, dear one!!!
And being from the Midwestern Prairies. . .I l o v e Sunflowers!!!
Thank you for inviting us into you lovely home for the 2015 Fall Homes Tours!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Can you believe that I’ve never seen a field of sunflowers – I would imagine it’s gorgeous!!
Your home is lovely and that fireplace tile is gorgeous. Thanks for the tour.
The flowers are proteas, they grow in South Africa and Australia and apparently Hawaii. If you google protea you get some really lovely pictures. They last for yonks and are always part of a bunch of ‘native’ Australian flowers.
PS. Thanks so much for the tour, you have such a lovely house. I am amused that you have sunflowers (obviously an autumn flower after all) as I have a jug of large sunflowers on my dining room table at the moment…except it is Spring here in Brisbane, Australia. They are so sunny and make me so happy just to look at them.
Your home looks beautiful! Especially love the necklace on your elephant!
Gorgeous as always! And I can never get enough black and white checks!
Shelley
Kris, it looks absolutely amazing and I love that you used sunflowers because they are so dear to my heart,
Every photo is perfection, Kris! I’m a little partial to your darling table setting and your Chiang Mai covered book. 😉 Just beautiful, and I can’t wait to see that gorgeous new fireplace!
Oh how I love your style! And your dining room is just amazing. Those sunflowers are gorgeous and pop!! I love the idea too of having them in the cups. So perfect!
Love your china set! Who makes it? Lovely house tour, thanks for all the inspiration!
What a gorgeous plate wall. Love the herb boxes too.
SOOO great, Kris. I need to jump into Fall…you’ve inspired me…in spite of the heat here. Love the buffalo check.and hydrangeas!

I love love love it all!!! The beads on the elephant are prob my fave ;)….and especially smitten with the buffalo plaid and sunflower combo!! Looks so pretty, girlie!!!
I love that buffalo check in your dining room – gorgeous!
Just gorgeous, Kris! I love the sunflowers and black and white and those green hydrangeas are GORGEOUS! I also love the little sneak peek of the new tile – it’s going to be stunning – can’t wait for that reveal!
Popping through on the house tour… when I realized that I had been to your blog before when I saw your beautiful Juliska wall! I can’t believe I *forgot* to follow your blog after that. Well, needless to say, I’m your newest follower on bloglovin’. I just love your decorating style. I love how those sunflowers “pop” against the black and white checks!
Kris, it looks amazing every little piece and corner! I am very jealous of your hydrangeas, I can’t seem to grow them here. However we do well with proteas in Aus. Take care x
Such a lovely tour Kris!! Hydrangeas and heirloom pumpkins…say no more!
Such a beautiful tour Kris! So many perfect touches of Fall. Can’t to see all your new projects!!
I love your table, that buffalo check is so cute! I’m going to need to find some of that at the fabric store. I love that fireplace tile, I can’t wait to see the finished product. Have a happy fall!
Gorgeous! Love the buffalo check! I’m partial to sunflowers because I live in the sunflower state!! Happy to be on the tour with you!
Flowers from Trader Joe’s are Proteas, indigenous to South Africa. They are part of the Fynbos family (directly translated means Fine Bush). There are many different varieties namely King protea and Pincushion to name just 2. Very hardy plants which thrive on the occasional burning to help germinate their seeds.
Thanks so much for the info on the flowers Cheryl!
Somehow I missed this post but just picked it up from Pinterest. Love the addition of the Buffalo Plaid! I didn’t know you had a fondness for squirrels? Maybe you need a nice heavy one to add to your collection?
Where did your chandelier cone from?
come
Happy New Year! Your blog is fabulous and your home(s) are just lovely!! Would you mind sharing the dimensions of your wonderful credenza that sits under the gallery wall? Thanks for such inspiration!
Sure! It’s just under 75″ long.
Hi! Love your decorating, could you please tell me the name of that color on the gallery wall in your home office? Black and white is my thing too! I also love red with it but sunflowers are gorgeous
Sure! The paint color is Benjamin Moore Nightfall
Very nice design!
Hi! I wanted to know what the dark blue paint color is?
Did I miss the paint color of the gallery wall??
Oops…nvm 🙂
