A lot of cheap home decor feels and looks exactly that.. cheap! But if you look hard enough, there are some amazing inexpensive, quality designer look for less home decor pieces out there!
Today I’m sharing my 30 favorite finds, including look for less versions of home decor from Serena & Lily, Pottery Barn, Anthropologie and more. Let’s get to it… (post includes affiliate links; full disclosure statement available {here})
Look for Less Pendant Lighting
1. Lantern Pendants
I chose {these Darlana lantern pendants} for over the kitchen island in our previous home and love how the open pendants kept this space feeling light and airy:
Other Sources: Rattan counter stools in Fog | See my kitchen remodel before and after for other details
The only negative? They definitely weren’t cheap! At the time that we remodeled our kitchen, I couldn’t find any similar pendants at a lower price, but now there are several great looks for less. One of the best is this lantern pendant that has a very similar design and the exact same dimensions as the Darlana pendant but is less than half the price:
Save: Darlana pendant ($539) | Splurge: Finnegan pendant ($111)
In addition to the satin brass finish option that’s the closest match to my Darlana pendants, this look for less version is also available in brushed nickel and midnight black.
2. Linear Lantern Pendant (NEW!)
I also found a great designer look for less version of the Darlana linear pendant. Its size and shape make it a great light fixture for over a dining table:
Splurge: Darlana Linear Lantern Pendant | Save: Jonathan Y Linear Pendant
The look for less version measures 49″ x 15″, so is in between the Darlana medium (41″ x 13″) and large (54″ x 17″) sizes. It’s available in several finish options, including antique gold, chrome, gray, oil rubbed bronze, and white. My sister bought it in {this white/brass combination} and it looks SO good over her dining room table!
3. Cone Pendants
Another pendant that looks fabulous over a kitchen island or dining table is {this cone pendant} from Rejuvenation that’s available in multiple sizes. It looks super similar to {this pendant} that’s about $200 less:
Splurge: Rejuvenation’s Conical Drum Pendant 16″ W ($579) | Save: Amazon’s Dainolite Trapezoid Pendant
In addition to the gold metal option, it’s also available in a black metal option in a 15″ W size {here}.
4. Rattan Bell Pendants
I love Serena & Lily lighting and chose {this simple rattan pendant} in the large 21.5″ W size for over our kitchen table:
Sources: Woven pendant | Round table | Bistro chairs | 7′ Round jute rug
While I couldn’t find a look-alike with similar dimensions to the large pendant that I have, I found one that’s very close in size to the smaller version but less than half the price:
Splurge: 14″ Serena & Lily’s Headlands Bell Pendant ($298) | Save: 16″ World Market’s Woven Bamboo Pendant ($129.99)
Look For Less Area Rugs
5. Scalloped Jute Rug (NEW!)
I love the texture of jute rugs and am obsessed with anything with a scalloped design, so {this Serena & Lily scalloped jute rug} hits all the marks for me! I was recently looking for a new 2′ x 3′ rug for in front of our kitchen sink and went looking for a similar, less expensive version of it. I found {this scalloped jute rug} that looks identical but is less than half the price (use the drop down menu on the product listing to select from the multiple available sizes):
Splurge: Serena & Lily Scalloped Jute Rug | Save: Amazon Scalloped Jute Rug
6. Mirabelle Rug
This find is such a good one! If you’re familiar with Serena & Lily’s Mirabelle rug, you know that it’s a gorgeous patterned rug in neutral colors that work well in almost any room:
Of course, there isn’t much of anything from Serena & Lily that’s cheap! The 8 x10 size of the Mirabelle rug is over $2000, so it’s definitely a splurge piece. A spot-on look for less (MUCH less!) is {this Adela rug} that’s currently on sale for over 90% off the Serena & Lily version:
Splurge: Serena & Lily Mirabelle Rug | Save: Home Depot’s Adela Rug
It’s available in three other size options too. Is the quality of the two rugs the same? The Serena & Lily rug is a higher quality double tufted wool rug, while the look for less version is a low pile polypropylene, which is a synthetic fiber.
So if you want to invest in a quality rug that you’ll have for 10+ years, I’d go for the splurge, but if you have a busy house with kids and dogs and know that whatever rug you get will need to be replaced in a few years, the look for less version is definitely the way to go. It’s a pretty amazing rug for the price and is super soft:
Also check out {this look for less rug} which is similar but with tassels along the short sides of the rug.
Look For Less Chairs
7. Black Cane Dining Chairs (NEW!)
I’m a sucker for cane furniture and think that these black cane dining chairs are fabulous:
But they sure aren’t cheap! Luckily, I found a super similar version for less than half the price:
Splurge: Lisbon Dining Chair ($899) | Save: Sofia Dining Chair ($298)
8. Bistro Dining Chairs
When you need between 4-10 chairs for around a dining table, the cost of new chairs adds up quickly! I have {these Riviera chairs} in the fog color around our kitchen table and absolutely love the style of them. They’ve held up really well too:
Want a similar look for less? When you buy {this set of 4 French bistro chairs}, the price per chair is about half the price of Serena & Lily’s chairs.
Splurge: Serena & Lily Riviera Chair | Save: Amazon’s Philomena French Bistro Chair (set of 4)
You can also buy the look for less chairs in a pair {here}, but the price per chair is a little bit higher.
Another pretty look for less version of this chair that has a chevron design on the back and seat is {this Celle dining chair}. The biggest difference between these look for less chairs and the Serena & Lily splurge version is what the frame is made of. The Serena & Lily chairs (on the right below) have a rattan frame while the look for less version (on the left below) has an aluminum frame.
I personally like the look of the rattan frame better, BUT the aluminum frame has the advantage of being usable both indoors and outdoors, plus the chairs are stackable which is really nice!
9. Rattan Dining Chairs
I found another Serena & Lily dining chair look for less too! If you love the look of their Balboa dining chairs, you’ll really love these similar chairs that come in a set of two and are about ⅓ of the price of the splurge version:
Splurge: Serena & Lily Balboa Side Chair | Save: Amazon Sofia Dining Chairs (set of 2)
You can also find the look for less version with arms {here}. Want to see some of my other favorite budget-friendly chairs? See my post on inexpensive dining chairs that don’t look cheap!
10. Outdoor Lounge Chairs
For outdoor lounge chairs, I own a look for less version that I’ve been really happy with! I’ve always loved the look of Serena & Lily’s Salt Creek chairs, but just couldn’t pull the trigger on outdoor furniture with that high of a price tag. About 1 ½ years ago, I stumbled on {these outdoor lounge chairs} from Walmart that have a super similar look:
The difference in price is insane! When you buy {this look for less set of two chairs and a side table}, the cost per chair is about 1/10th of the splurge version!
Splurge: Serena & Lily Salt Creek Lounge Chair ($1898) | Save: Walmart’s Lilah Wicker Outdoor Lounge Chair (set of 2 + side table)
They also sell a conversation set of two chairs, a loveseat, and an ottoman {here} which is the exact set I bought for our porch.
Designer Look for Less Beaded Lighting
11. Wood Bead Chandelier
I’m a sucker for beaded lighting and have found some great “save” versions of “splurge” chandeliers and flush mounts. I’ve always thought that this draped wood bead chandelier from Pottery Barn was beautiful, but I actually prefer the brass frame of this wood bead chandelier that’s less than half the price:
Splurge: Pottery Barn Amelia Wood Bead Chandelier ($999) | Save: World Market’s Whitewashed Wood Draped Bead Chandelier ($349.99)
The size of the two is fairly similar too, with the splurge version measuring 24″ D x 28″ H and the look for less version (in the large size) measuring 22″ D x 26″ H. See my blog post on wood bead chandeliers for more of my favorites, including {this chandelier} that I had in the dining room of our previous home.
12. Beaded Flush Mount Light
If you’re looking for a beaded flush mount light, these two options look just like one another but with very different price tags:
Splurge: PB Kids Dahlia Flush Mount ($269) | Save: Amazon Bohemia Beaded Flush Mount
The splurge version is a bit larger at 14″ D x 10″ H compared to the look for less version that’s 12.6″ D x 9″ H. Both are on the smaller side for flush mount fixtures, so they are best used in smaller rooms like a kids’ bathroom, laundry room, or small bedroom.
Look For Less Coffee Tables
13. White Lattice Coffee Table (NEW!)
This white lattice Serena & Lily coffee table is perfect for a seating arrangement with four chairs. It’s outdoor-friendly, so could be used on a porch, deck, or patio:
but would work well indoors in a living room too. If you’re looking for a similar coffee table for indoor use, I found one that’s the same size (36″ diameter) but about ⅓ the price:
Splurge: Bamileke coffee table ($2298) | Save: Bornova coffee table ($799)
14. Rattan Coffee Table
A round coffee table that I’ve always loved the look of is this 44″ W Anguilla rattan coffee table from Serena & Lily that has great texture and an open, airy feel:
If a slightly smaller 39″ wide coffee table works for your space, this look for less rattan coffee table is about half the price:
Splurge: Serena & Lily Anguilla Rattan Coffee Table | Save: Amazon Kouboo Busan Rattan Coffee Table
15. Iron & Glass Coffee Table (NEW!)
Pottery Barn’s iron and glass Tanner coffee table is a versatile piece that can work with everything from modern to rustic to transitional styles:
It’s a nice size for most living rooms, measuring 24″ W x 48″ L x 18.5″ H. I found its kissing cousin with almost identical measurements (differing by 0.5″ or less in each direction) for about ⅓ the price:
Splurge: Tanner Coffee Table ($699) | Save: Jamel Coffee Table ($229.99)
Look For Less Side/End Tables
16. Scalloped Rattan Side Table (NEW!)
Sometimes multiple retailers sell the same exact product but give them different names to make it harder to price shop. I can’t say for sure whether that’s the case with this Serena & Lily scalloped rattan side table (which makes a great nightstand too),
but the save version looks identical and has identical measurements. The difference is that one retailer sells it for $200 less than the other:
Splurge: Serena & Lily Scalloped Rattan Table ($598) | Save: Auden & Avery Scalloped Rattan Table ($399)
17. Cross Base End Table
When it comes to end tables, I prefer a simple, classic design. {This cross base end table} from McGee & Co. is perfection, but it’s also a lot of money to spend on a side table. The good news is that Target’s Studio McGee line has a very similar version that’s about 75% less:
Splurge: McGee & Co. Prudence End Table ($700) | Save: Target’s Rose Park Round Wood End Table ($110)
Designer Look For Less Home Accessories
Let’s move on to home accessories that look just as fabulous as the designer versions but at a much more affordable price…
18. Giant Clam Shell
Have you seen decorative giant clam shells before? They’re such a fun home decor piece but… the price tag on them is typically in the $200-$400 range, such as Pottery Barn’s giant clam shell. Luckily I found a very similar decorative clam shell for much less:
Splurge: Pottery Barn Giant Clam Shell ($249) | Save: Home Depot Giant Clam Shell ($57.85)
You can also find the “save” clam shell on Amazon {here} but Home Depot currently has better pricing.
The save version is a slightly smaller size than the splurge version but I actually prefer that because it’s a better fit for the top of a dresser or console. I bought it for our entryway console and LOVE it! For the holidays, I filled it with a few pretty ornaments:
Entryway Sources: Rug | Raffia console | White table lamp | 30″ x 40″ Framed art print | Decorative snail | Shallow wood bowl | Glass beads | Cube ottomans
And for year-round use, I’ve filled it with {this clear glass bead garland}:
19. Cozy Leopard Throw
I’ve loved Barefoot Dreams cozy cardigans, robes, and throws for years, but they’re definitely not cheap! One of their most popular throws is {this CozyChic neutral leopard throw} – it comes cutely packaged with a bow, so makes a great gift. A great look for less is {this leopard throw} that comes in two sizes and currently has a 4.6 star rating:
Splurge: Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Leopard Throw | Save: Amazon GY Luxury Fleece Leopard Throw
The large 51″ x 71″ size of the look for less is about ¼ the price of the similarly sized 54″ x 72″ Barefoot Dreams throw. I bought the save version and am super happy with it! Cricket isn’t complaining either:
20. Coastal Pillow Covers
I LOVE Serena & Lily pillow covers – they have so many beautiful fabrics and the quality is top notch. But… wow, the prices on them have gone up so much over the years! For a similar look to {this 20″ surf stripe pillow} and {this beach stripe lumbar pillow cover}, check out my save versions that are much less:
Splurge: Serena & Lily Surf Stripe Pillow Cover & Beach Stripe Pillow Cover | Save: Amazon HOFDECO Sky Blue Stripe 18″ Pillow Cover & Wide Stripe Lumbar Pillow Cover
Is the quality of these outdoor pillow covers all the same? Probably not. My experience with Serena & Lily’s pillow covers is that they’re made with high-quality fabrics and zippers and their tassels are beautifully crafted (I love the double tassels of the lumbar pillow!).
I haven’t seen the look for less pillows in person, but from reading reviews, it seems that buyers have been very happy with their purchase except that the color of the pillows is reported to fade quickly with outdoor use. So if you’ll be using yours outside, it might be worth it to save for the splurge!
Look For Less Lamps
Some of my favorite designer look for less finds are table lamps because the price difference between the splurge and save options can be huge! I’ll kick off my finds with one that I bought for my girls’ bedroom and have been SO happy with.
21. Large Rattan Table Lamp
I had been eyeing Pottery Barn’s large rattan Cambria lamp for quite a while. But the rattan had a whitewashed look that I didn’t love and it was super pricey. Then I stumbled upon {this similar sized rattan lamp} at a fraction of the price:
Other Sources: Framed art print | Coral (similar) | Dresser
While some look for less finds are lower quality for the save version, I don’t feel like that’s the case with this find! It’s a very well constructed lamp, and I actually like the natural finish of the rattan better than that of the splurge version.
Splurge: Pottery Barn Cambria Rattan Lamp (was $296, recently discontinued) | Save: Home Depot Jolina Rattan Lamp ($79.78) or Amazon Henn & Hart Rattan Lamp
Both versions of this lamp are 26.5″ H and the base is wide, so they definitely have an oversized feel that’s best for on top of a dresser, console, or table (they would be a bit too large for bedside lamps in most bedrooms). If you want something smaller, Amazon has a smaller 20″ high version of this same rattan lamp {here}.
22. Glass Globe Table Lamp (NEW!)
I’ve always thought that {this glass globe table lamp} from Serena & Lily is a stunner! I love that it would work with almost any style and colors that you have in your space. An awesome “save” version is {this glass globe table lamp} that’s about ⅓ the price and has a VERY similar look:
Splurge: Georgia Table Lamp ($698) | Save: Hurley Table Lamp ($157)
Also check out {this smaller version} with a similar design.
23. Metal Floor Lamp
If you’re looking for a new floor lamp for your living room or next to a reading chair in your bedroom, I love the mixed metal look of {this Reese floor lamp} and found a look for less for it too! Check out this Simone floor lamp that’s almost the same height and very similar style:
Splurge: Pottery Barn Reese Metal Floor Lamp ($449) | Save: Amazon Simone Floor Lamp
I prefer the larger shade that comes with the Pottery Barn version, but for the price difference, it would still cost less to buy the look for less lamp plus a new shade.
Decorative Mirrors
24. Round White Rattan Mirror (NEW!)
This find is another designer look for less that I have in my own home! When we remodeled our powder room, I had my eye on {this Serena & Lily round white rattan mirror} but didn’t want to spend that much. I ended up finding {this similar 30″ version} and it worked beautifully, tying in the white of the bathroom shiplap:
Other Sources: Wallpaper | Shiplap | Vanity | Brushed nickel faucet (similar) | Striped planter | Woven soap pump | Towel ring (stainless)
Splurge: Montara Mirror ($598) | Save: Kouboo Mirror
25. Round Rattan Sunburst Mirror
I’m a sucker for round mirrors, especially ones with great texture such as {this 36″ Capistrano rattan mirror} from Serena & Lily. If you don’t mind a smaller 30.5″ round size, check out {this Elinor rattan mirror} from West Elm that has a very similar look at about half the price:
Splurge: Serena & Lily Capistrano Rattan Mirror ($498) | Save: West Elm Elinor Rattan Mirror ($229)
Designer Look for Less Benches
I love having a bench at the end of our beds and rounded up my favorites in my post on end of bed benches. They also work well in entryways, where they’re nice for having a spot to sit while you take shoes off or put them on. These are the look for less deals I found on benches…
26. Waterfall Bench (NEW!)
A bench with a waterfall design is perfect for a more modern bedroom. I love the coziness that the boucle covering of this waterfall bench adds:
I found a “save” version of this waterfall bench with an identical design AND the exact same measurements too:
Splurge: Tate bench ($1298) | Save: Caralynn bench
27. Rattan Bench
Note: The save version of this rattan bench is currently out of stock but it should be restocked soon!
I love {this 52″ Avalon bench} from Serena & Lily that’s the perfect size for the foot of a bed:
It would add some great texture to any space and is neutral enough to work with all colors and styles of bedding. You can get an almost identical look with a bench that’s just 4″ shorter in length:
Splurge: Serena & Lily Avalon Bench ($1298) | Save: Baxton Studio Bohemian Bench
Other Look For Less Furniture
28. Arched Glass Door Storage Cabinet
I’m a big fan of Anthropologie’s Fern line of furniture! It includes several beautiful pieces, including {this gorgeous glass door storage cabinet}. If you love the look but want a cabinet that comes with a lower price tag, check out {this Mason storage cabinet} from Urban Outfitters that’s currently on sale:
Splurge: Anthropologie’s Fern Cabinet ($2698) | Save: Urban Outfitters Mason Storage Cabinet (on sale for $1299)
Anthropologie & Urban Outfitters are sister companies, so my guess is that they’re made by the same manufacturer. The pluses of the Anthropologie cabinet are that it has beautifully designed feet, a marble shelf, thicker wood shelves, and is a few inches larger. You can decide whether those upgrades are worth the extra cost.
29. Brass Etagere Bookcase (NEW!)
If you have a room that you’d like to add stylish storage to, an etagere bookcase like {this one from Ballard Designs} is a great option. What’s an even better option? The save version that looks identical but is a fraction of the price:
Splurge: Ballard Designs Silvia Etagere ($1499) | Save: Wayfair Chiasson Etagere ($239.99)
The save version is also available in additional finish options including black, white, and a few others (the white option is really pretty!) The dimensions of the two options differ a bit with the splurge option measuring 80″H X 36″W X 12″D and the save option measuring 70.88” H X 30” W X 14.5” D.
30. Bench Seat Sofa
And last but not least, let’s talk about sofas! While I’m all about inexpensive home decor, for upholstered pieces that I plan on having for years and years, I think investing in a high quality piece is well worth it. I have several high quality upholstered pieces that I’ve had for 10+ years now that are still going strong.
After remodeling our “circus room” (check out our shiplap ceiling if you missed it!), I went on the hunt for a new sofa for that space. I looked at several sofas from Serena & Lily including {this Beach House Sofa} because their upholstered/slipcovered pieces are made by Lee Industries which is a top notch, high quality brand.
We own several upholstered Lee Industries pieces including our sectional sofa (See my post on the best sectional sofas for details).
I also learned about a newer brand called Maiden Home. Like Lee Industries, their pieces are made in North Carolina and seem to be of similar quality but are available for less since they sell direct to consumer. Comparable sofas on Maiden Home are about 30-40% less than Lee Industries sofas on Serena & Lily:
Splurge: Serena & Lily Beach House Sofa | Save: Maiden Home Dune Sofa
What did I end up going with? The Splurge! Having bought several Lee Industries pieces in the past, I knew it was going to be a high quality piece and the Maiden Home reviews are pretty mixed. Also, I was able to get the sky blue performance fabric I wanted (which Maiden Home didn’t have). I’ll take some pics of it to share soon!
I hope you guys enjoyed this post and found a designer look for less piece to try in your own home! Also check out my post on stores like Restoration Hardware for tips on finding furniture and decor with an RH vibe for less.
And with that, my splurge vs. save post is a wrap! Thanks for stopping by!
