It’s been a while since I’ve talked about our kitchen remodel plans! But as I wrap up the planning and ordering, it’s time to catch you up to speed 🙌🏻.
When I last wrote about our remodel, I shared several kitchen layout ideas that I was debating between. They were all major renovations that included adding windows, relocating appliances, and even (with my favorite option) creating a scullery with a portion of our kitchen space (plans by Susan Vaughn):
Since then, our future plans have pretty much done a 180! As I shared in {this post} earlier this year, a parcel of land just blocks from our current home hit the market as a resale (something we didn’t anticipate happening), and we decided to grab it and build our forever home!
Now, instead of doing a massive kitchen renovation with plans to stay in this house for years, we’re doing a smaller scale renovation to help with resale. We’ve made several budget-friendly upgrades to our kitchen over the last few years (see my post about kitchen remodel ideas on a budget for details!), but our kitchen is 30 years old and falling apart. Literally…
Now that you’re caught up to speed, let’s jump into my current kitchen remodel plans! I’m really interested in getting any and all opinions from you guys since the end goal is to create a kitchen that will have this house flying off the market when it’s time to sell (aka a kitchen that you all love just as much as I do!). So while I’m definitely infusing it with my personal style, I want to make choices that are fairly universally appealing too.
Here’s what I’ve got planned…

Appliance Choices
Are you surprised to see that I chose a dual fuel range instead of induction? Me too! 😂 After all of your comments on my post about induction vs. gas ranges, I was convinced that induction was the way to go and had every intention of ordering a 48″ induction range. But… when I went to order my appliances, our local store had a 48″ dual fuel Monogram range on their showroom floor that they had just reduced to 50% off to (ironically) replace with a 48″ induction range.
48″ ranges are pricey suckers ($14- $15k!) so saving $7000 was enough for me to change my mind real quick! 😂 Having to run a new gas line from our existing propane tank and needing a more powerful range hood will add about $1500 in cost (versus if we had gone with induction). But saving $5.5k is worth the change in plans!
And, if you remember, I had this 48″ Monogram range in our previous home and loved it so even if it’s not what I had anticipated getting, I know I’ll be happy with it:
Our remodeled kitchen will have a matching Monogram dishwasher and refrigerator too (a newer version of this one that we had in our previous home):
We’ll have a microwave drawer in our island (I loved the one in our old house!), but instead of the Monogram brand, I chose a Sharp microwave drawer to save money. Sharp actually makes Monogram’s drawer microwave, so the guts are exactly the same, just without the higher end branding.
Kitchen Cabinets
Working with Classic Kitchens in Wilmington, I chose semi-custom Wellborn cabinets, which I’d describe as high quality mid-grade kitchen cabinets. The cabinets on the perimeter of the kitchen will be Glacier White, while the kitchen island and large coffee bar area will be Gray Mist, which is a really pretty taupe:
I chose their Galena door style, which is a modified Shaker design with a small piece of trim around the inside of the Shaker border:
A few of the things I’m most excited about with the cabinet design are that (1) I’ll finally have a decent sized pantry; (2) I’m swapping out our funky-shaped island for a rectangular one that has a ton more storage space; (3) I’ll have a pull-out double trash cabinet similar to this one in our previous home;
and (4) I’ll have a fabulous new coffee bar along the wall where the old pantry and desk used to be! This beautiful coffee bar designed by Christie Lewis Interiors was my inspiration:
Kitchen Lighting
For over our kitchen island, I’m leaning towards two of {these 18″ dome pendants} in brass metal and matte white finishes:
I also like the similar cone pendant option {here}.
I’m going to keep {this woven pendant} over the table in our breakfast nook:
and plan to incorporate some woven/rattan elements into the main area of the kitchen to tie it in.
UPDATE: I ended up changing my lighting plans a bit! Visit the end of my post on kitchen island pendant lighting where I share details on my new selections.
I’ll likely do that with my counter stools, and absolutely love {these counter stools} with a cane back, but yikes, they’re pricey!
These are some other counter stool options that have caught my eye:

Kitchen Sink & Faucet
I’m a little undecided about the direction to go with our sink! One thing I know for sure is that I want a single basin sink instead of the divided sink we currently have (I know some people love divided sinks, but I’m not one of them!). As far as material goes, I’ve lived in houses with stainless steel, ceramic, and fireclay sinks, and my favorite is fireclay. I had {this farmhouse sink} in our previous home and loved everything about it:
I can’t use a farmhouse-style sink for this kitchen remodel since it will be in a corner cabinet, so am looking at undermount options. Currently, my front-runner sinks are {this Kraus undermount fireclay sink} and {this Ruvati undermount fireclay sink}
But… I also think it would be great to have a workstation sink, and I heard from a lot of you that you LOVE yours! When I asked on Instagram, several of you have {this Ruvati workstation sink} or {this Kraus workstation sink} and are crazy about it:
I’ve looked at some composite workstation sinks as possible options but am on the fence about the look of the white composite. I’d love to hear what type of sink you have and whether you love or hate it!
For our kitchen faucet, I fell in love with Studio McGee’s Edalyn line and am debating between {this single hole faucet} and {this bridge faucet} in a polished nickel finish:
Floating Oak Shelves
I love the mix of cabinetry and open shelving in kitchens and am planning to have floating wood shelves in our kitchen similar to these in our previous home:
I’ll have a fairly short pair of shelves on both sides of my range hood as well as two long shelves as part of the coffee bar. I’m a big fan of UltraShelf and plan to use {these floating oak shelves} with their Nature stain, which is the same stain that I chose for the oak shelves in our living room bookcase:
Sources: Wallpaper | Large faux coral (similar) | Woven owl | White bubble planter | Fern art | Star pod | White candlesticks | White square frame (8.3″ x 8.3″) | Burlwood frame (11″ x 13″) | Elephant bookend | Decorative black & white box | Coral “topper” (similar) | Bust planter | Round basket
I used UltraShelf’s oak shelves for the floating shelves in our bathroom too (but with the pickled white stain) and was super happy with them.
Update: I ended up using {these floating shelves} which are a less expensive option if the standard sizes they’re offered in work for you!
Backsplash Tile
I want a versatile backsplash tile that’s also budget-friendly and decided on {this 2.5″ x 8″ Cloe tile} (also available {here}):
I hesitated a bit in choosing it because it’s used so often, but at the same time, there’s a reason for that. It has such a pretty look, and the fact that there’s so much color variation allows it to blend with so many shades of countertops and cabinets. And the price is much lower than the marble options I was considering.
Cabinet Hardware
One of the small kitchen upgrades we made since buying our house was swapping out the kitchen cabinet knobs for {these knobs in the golden champagne finish}:
I plan to reuse those in our new kitchen along with {these pulls} in the same finish.
I haven’t solidified my countertop choice yet but will soon (I may take a trip up to Raleigh or Charlotte to see more of my final contenders in person). I’ll share my countertop and range hood selections (I’m just deciding on a few last details with that!), and a few other details when we kick our reno off, so stay tuned!
Update! I ended up choosing {these quartz countertops} (and love them!) and {this gorgeous hood}.
I want to wrap up by wishing a happy Father’s Day to all of the dads out there! As the only guy in our house (even our dog is a girl 😂), Jeff puts up with a LOT and deserves every bit of gratitude and relaxation he gets today!
Also missing my dad today and wish he was here to be part of the celebration. He was the best of dads and made every gathering more fun:
XO,
