With our kitchen renovation around the corner (demo starts at the end of this month!), I’ve been busy getting everything organized and prepped for the impending chaos. And trust me, chaos is an understatement – we’re ripping out all of the red Saltillo tile to replace with new flooring so not only will our house be a dust bowl but everything in our kitchen and laundry room (table and chairs, banquette, baker’s rack, and washer & dryer) will have to find a home in other rooms for a while. I’ve learned from several past renovations that for my own sanity I need at least one room that’s untouched by the chaos – a space that’s a little oasis away from the dust, noise, and clutter that I can retreat to. Our bedroom is going to be “that space” and I’m excited to have partnered with InterDesign to whip my bedroom into shape using their highly-rated organizational products. And since I’m pretty much an “all or nothing” kind of girl, I added some spring touches to my bedroom along the way. Everything I did was pretty simple and inexpensive so I thought I’d share my spring bedroom refresh and organizational ideas with you and give you a little tour of my bedroom oasis along the way! (affiliate links included in post – my full disclosure statement is available {here})
Add a New Spring Pillow & Swap the Rest!
When you decorate with a lot neutrals like I do, you can swap pillows and throws between rooms and create a whole new look without spending a dime. To freshen up my bedding for spring, I swapped out my heavier patterned Euro shams with {these white frayed edge Euro shams} that were in my hoard closet and then snagged two of {these patterned gray pillows} along with {this cream tassel pillow} from our family room. The only new addition was {this super cute little blush pink and cream lumbar pillow} – you can order it in any size but I love having a little lumbar to put behind my head when reading or watching the iPad in bed. It’s the perfect subtle pop of color for spring!
Lighten & Brighten with Paint
Another easy spring upgrade was lightening and brightening our headboard with a new paint color – it went from a dark bluish gray to a much lighter taupey gray (Farrow & Balls’ Wevet) that I already had in my paint stash. While repainting a furniture piece might seem like a big task, it took me less than two hours to knock out. It’s always a good idea to de-gloss the existing paint before painting over it so that it adheres well and usually that’s done by giving it a light sand but since I wanted to keep things easy and paint my headboard in place without having the sanding mess, I used Krud Kutter Gloss-Off which worked beautifully. After it dried, I applied two coats of paint which gave it a fresh new look without spending a bit of money.
Whip a Few Drawers Into Shape
Between my bedroom, the kids rooms, bathrooms, and the kitchen, when I think about the total number of drawers in my house that could use some whipping into shape, I get organization paralysis 🙂 . If you’re the same, just start with a drawer or two instead of trying to tackle them all at one time. The drawers that bugged me the most in our bedroom were the top two drawers of our dresser and this one – my husband’s nightstand drawer. It’s the result of my husband emptying his pockets onto his nightstand at the end of the day and then me opening the drawer and sweeping the junk inside so I don’t have to look at it:
For a tiny drawer like this, desk organizers are often a good bet and it turns out that {this desk organizer} (mine is the 4-section large size) was a perfect fit!
Other than the few bits of trash I threw out, the Brooks Brothers receipt from 2016 (?!), and the three dollar bills that I pocketed (because you know… finders keepers) everything fit easily with lots of room to spare. While I used it for an inside-the-drawer organizer, if you prefer one that sits on top of a nightstand or dresser, it would be a good choice for that too because it has a pretty woven pattern on both the bottom of the organizer and wrapping around the sides.
While I can blame the nightstand mess on my husband, the messy top drawers in our dresser are all my doing! They had gotten so out of control disorganized that finding anything had become a bit of a search and rescue mission…
With the help of a few fabric organizers, I was able to quickly and easily whip it into shape! I used {this 10 section set} for my socks and camisoles/slips and the large organizer from {this 4 section set} to hold undies and bras. I stashed a few of the things that I rarely use (like thick winter socks) in the gap between the back of the drawer and the organizers which works perfectly for keeping them pushed forward securely in place so that they don’t move around at all when opening and shutting the drawer. So easy! I love these organizers and feel so motivated to keep the momentum going and tackle more drawers this spring.
Stack Up Your Jewelry
I keep my bracelets and necklaces in a hanging jewelry organizer in the closet but haven’t ever had a great spot for my earrings. I found {this stackable jewelry organizer} that couldn’t be more perfect for keeping them organized without taking up a lot of precious drawer space! I have two of the 2-piece sets that each include a top and two trays with divided compartments that are perfect for earrings, rings, and small bracelets & necklaces.
The two sets are stackable so I have a total of four trays which hold a LOT of jewelry without taking up a lot of space. While transferring my earrings over to it, I weeded out a lot of my earrings I haven’t worn in years so ended up with a bunch of empty compartments in the bottom trays, giving me room to grow! They come in three other sizes/configurations too including some that have larger compartments in case you want to use it for larger jewelry like chunky necklaces and bracelets – you can find them all {here}. And in case you’re wondering, the trays are completely clear, not pink tinged like photograph:
Keep Your Frames, Change Your Art
Instead of continually buying new framed art prints when you want to change your art up, a less expensive alternative is to buy some standard sized frames that you like and then just switch out the art. Minted is great for doing exactly that since most of their art prints come in the same standard sizes – I swapped out my two previous prints with {this cherry blossom print} in 16″ x 20″ size and {this colorful moth print} in 8″ x 10″. Such a nice, simple spring refresh!
And adding some fresh flowers to the mix never hurts either!
Keep Your Bedside Essentials Close at Hand
Once or twice a month my husband and I will watch a movie in bed on our iPad but otherwise I’m pretty religious about putting my phone and electronics away before going to bed and reading a book or magazine instead so I always have reading material close at hand.
I added {this bedside organizer} that is anchored between the mattress and boxspring and while it’s kinda silly it’s also pretty awesome! It holds a small notepad and pen (I like to brain dump to-do lists before going to bed), the book I’m reading (right now it’s Orphan Train), and any unread magazines/catalogs. It’s so nice having everything neatly tucked away within a simple arm’s reach. The organizer actually expands quite a bit and would hold several large books but since I don’t need that much space, I put a paperclip on each end fold to keep it smaller and tight to the bed:
I also have {this clear organizer tote} bedside holding my lip balms (another thing I’m religious about – I use them every night before bed) and the hair clips and bands that I put on while getting ready for bed and take off before going to sleep.
This cute would work really well for organizing cosmetics in your bathroom too, especially if you have deep drawers or cabinets since it has a handle on each end that makes it quick and easy to pull out and access what’s stored inside. There are several other size options to choose from so it’s simple to find one that works with the space that you have.
Find a Spot to Hang Clothes That Might Otherwise Hit the Floor
I’m guilty of taking off clothes like sweaters at the end of the day that I plan to rewear and throwing them on our corner chair (where they get wrinkled) instead of hanging them up because as pathetic as it may sound, I’m just too tired to do one more thing. Having a few simple hooks to hang them on instead of the chair (or the floor) is key!
I got {this 3 hook over-the-door rack} a few weeks back and haven’t put a thing on my chair ever since – it’s been a great little addition to previously unused back-of-the-door real estate! There are also 2- and 6-hook options.
Maximize Your Under the Bed Storage
Our house was built in the ’40s so we are seriously limited in closet space and take advantage of every square inch of under-the-bed storage:
One of the things I store under our bed is rarely used and off-season shoes. I previously had them in one large under-the-bed storage box which wasn’t ideal because I couldn’t see inside and it was a bit too tall for the space and hard to pull out. I swapped it out for {these clear hinged boxes} – there are several sizes to choose from but I went with the “blouse box” size since four of them fit perfectly lined up under my bed (or three of them + one sleeping dog 🙂 ).
I can fit three pairs of big chunky shoes in a box, 4-5 pairs of regular flats, or 8-9 pairs of flip flops/sandals. And I am LOVING having them broken up in smaller boxes that are super easy to slide in and out and clear so I can see what’s inside with a quick peek. These boxes are stackable so if you prefer to store them stacked in a closet they’re perfect for that too.
Under the long side of our bed is where I store our extra throw pillows and pillow inserts in vacuum storage bags. You guys, if you haven’t tried these you need to because you will LOVE them! They’re basically ginormous ziplock bags that you seal and then suck the air out of with your vacuum. It literally takes less than two minutes to stuff and vacuum seal a bag and it saves so much space. I can fit 3-4 stacked vacuum packed bags of pillows under the side of my bed as compared to only a single non-vacuum packed bag.
And it works for extra clothes, blankets, sleeping bags, or any extra linens too. I have {this set of 6 vacuum seal bags} that includes an assortment of bags in different sizes but you can get packs of all one size too. A total lifesaver!
Now that my bedroom is all organized and refreshed for spring, I just need Mother Nature to cooperate and bring on the warm weather! Here’s to hoping that the snowfall we had last night is the last of the season. Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone and thanks as always for stopping by!

Hi Nora – it was actually an old stained wood headboard that I found on Craigslist and painted!
Kris,
I love these ideas and my bedroom could really benefit from implementing at least a few! Actually, your bedroom has been my inspiration photo for months now. I was wondering about the euro shams you had in that amazing fabric. Are you switching them out for the season or will you use them elsewhere? Does that fabric even work with your new bed frame color? Sometimes a small change necessitates further adjustments, I know, but since I’ve been searching for something similar, I had to inquire about them! I love your taste and admire your home so very much. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Sue
Hi Sue,
I’m storing them until the fall and then will probably get them back out to use in my bedroom or another spot but am kinda playing it by ear. If I decide at some point that I don’t need them anymore, I’ll shoot you an email to see if you’re still looking and would like them! 🙂
Nice post! You gave me inspiration to get moving on a refresh for our bedroom. I ordered the bags- great idea for storing pillows, thanks!! ( I have a bit of a problem with too many pillows!) 😊 Thanks for the inspiration! Your bedroom looks great!!
I’m glad you enjoyed it Linda – coming from one person with a pillow problem to another, you’ll love the bags!!
Hi Kris,
In one of the pictures above, you can see what could be your closets…do you have drapes intend of doors? I was thinking of doing this in one of our bedrooms, since the closet bifold doors where taken off years ago and never replaced.
Why would be a pretty way of doing this?
Hi Karen, I actually have a full post that shows what I did with my closet – you can find it here: https://www.drivenbydecor.com/replacing-bi-fold-closet-doors-curtains-closet-makeover/
Great ideas. Love the jewelry storage.
Thanks Pam! I love storing it this way and wish I had done it years ago!
GREAT TIPS!. I am going to order the jewelry organizer!
Thanks Mary Ann! You’ll love it!
Great tips Kris. We have gone through tile demo before (too many times, don’t ask 😉 One thing I do recommend is putting filters found at Lowe’s/Home Depot in the vents and having the fan on your A/C units off while they are doing demo. It really does cut down on the dust “traveling” to other parts of the house through the duct work.
Your bedroom looks amazing Kris! There is something about adding a few organizational containers that makes everything better! I love the ones you chose. The top nightstand drawers are a huge problem at our house and I’m definitely going to take your lead and get the desk organizers you used. Also, I’m desperate for a jewelry organizer and something for under bed storage. Can’t wait to check out everything here out!!! Great post!
Thanks so much Jen! I’m loving it and wishing that I had done it a long time ago!
Kris, your bedroom looks fantastic but I LOVE your organization solutions! It’s funny, I don’t think of “bedroom” when I think of organizing (I guess because mine is a nightmare after seeing hiw things really could look and work.) I NEED those vacuum bags, bed storage (hello laptop holder!) and drawer organizers. I just showed my husband and we have a new upcoming project now! 😂 Thank you for sharing these brilliant solutions!
You DO need those vacuum bags – trust me, once you have them you’ll wonder how you lived with out them!
KRIS! Are you kidding me? This is beyond inspiring! What awesome organizational tools! I’m totally checking out this company and excited to get my butt in gear as well! And it’s all pretty too! Love your new headboard color and your sweet new spring prints! You are such a talent! Xo
You are the sweetest! Thanks Haneen!

Randi, if that’s weird then I’m a weirdo too because I feel so much more relaxed when things around me are organized!
Love the 4 and 10 set section idea !! And the jewellery box, I love it. Definitely adding to my cart today 🙂
I’m sure you’ll love them – they’re great!
Kris your bedroom is beyond beautiful! I love every single Spring touch you added. And the organization!! Don’t even get me started! I’m especially in love with those drawer organizers.
