In years past, I enjoyed browsing through the Ballard Designs catalog but could never get all that excited about their products. That changed in a big way last year when they teamed up with designer Suzanne Kasler – I am loving her product lines and a lot of Ballard’s other products as well. Luckily for me, we have a Ballard Designs Outlet just north of Cincinnati so when there’s something I’ve been eyeing in the catalog, there’s always a chance I can find it there at a much cheaper price. On a visit to the outlet a few weeks ago, I came across this beauty:
|Ballard Designs’ Claudette Headboard|
Swoon – it was love at first sight! I’ve been looking to replace my old king headboard for months, but hadn’t found the right combination of high style and low price until I came across gorgeous Ms. Claudette. She regularly sells for $599 plus $70 shipping but she was outlet priced at $478.99, then marked down again to $419.25 because the carved bird normally perched on the headboard was MIA. Fine by me – I was thinking my husband would NOT be a big fan of having a wooden bird perched above his head at night anyway (although when I later read reviews of the headboard online, I found some people are gaga about his bird – particularly this one reviewer who commented, “The removable bird is what makes this headboard so special. I even named it. After a hard day’s work I can always count on it to put a smile on my face.“). Wow – this lady scare me a little (ok, a lot) but moving on… The headboard was then marked down another 20% for a Veterans Day special so I got Claudette for $335.40, which is half the price it would have cost me to buy her from the catalog and have her shipped. While Claudette is no shorty at 66″, I wanted my headboard to have some good height so I bought a pair of these bun feet,
Now I’m on the hunt for a duvet cover and some more pillows to finish the look (any suggestions?).
I was back at the Ballard Outlet this week and took pictures to give you an idea of some of the great things you can get and how their prices compare to the catalog/online.
The Sofia Sofa is so pretty – I think that every time I’ve been to the outlet over the past several months they have had Sofia furniture (the sofa, chair, or settee). The Sofia sofa retails at $1,599 and was selling at the outlet for $1,278.99.

This Capri Large Ottoman would be beautiful at the end of a bed – it’s base is a chunky rattan weave in a gray finish. While Ballard still sells a Capri chair and smaller ottoman, this bigger guy must be a discontinued item (he was $318.99).
When I saw this Aidan Serving Table in the catalog, I didn’t look twice at it but in person it is absolutely beautiful. It is very shallow so would be perfect in a foyer, behind a sofa, or in a dining room with limited space.

I love the X design on the door fronts of this Belgard Cabinet (he was priced at $798.99 – not all that great of a deal, as he is $999.99 in the catalog)

I love, love this Antoinette Sideboard in the Distressed Gray finish and she was a steal – she retails for $1,399 and was selling at the outlet for $718.25.

I’m a sucker for urns, including these Jordane Urns that were available in two sizes.

In continuing with the bamboo theme, I thought this pendant was great (and would look amazing spray painted black!). A great deal at about 70-75% off retail!
Love this Emille Wood Mirror – hadn’t noticed her in the catalog. No great bargain though – she is on sale online for $199 and priced the same at the outlet.

Same thing for this Dominique Small Cabinet she is priced at $329.99, which is the same as her sale price online.

I pretty much love anything made of driftwood, including this mirror with a $199 price tag. This mirror is a discontinued item – she used to sell for $329.
Gotta love a doorbuster deal – you can snag one of Suzanne Kesler’s Zinc Beverage Tubs for $29.44. This is another discontinued item – it was previously sold for $99.
Unfortunately, there are only three Ballard outlets – two in the Atlanta area and this one outside of Cincinnati. If you live near one or are traveling to the Cincinnati or Atlanta area for the holidays, definitely check it out! It helps to look at their weekly specials (you’ll see the link in the “Good Things to Know” section in each of the three outlets’ description) before you go to see if it looks like a good week for a deal on the type of item you are hunting for. Their weekly special include an additional percentage off of the already reduced outlet prices. They also typically offer several doorbusters of discontinued items that can be amazing deals. Here are the weekly specials at my Ballard Outlet this week:
